  1. These are some pics I took on and around my golf course. http://i445.photobucket.com/albums/qq177/ringfry/fall011.jpg http://i445.photobucket.com/albums/qq177/ringfry/fall010.jpg http://i445.photobucket.com/albums/qq177/ringfry/fall009.jpg http://i445.photobucket.com/albums/qq177/ringfry/fall008.jpg http://i445.photobucket.com/albums/qq177/ringfry/fall007.jpg http://i445.photobucket.com/albums/qq177/ringfry/fall005.jpg
  2. On another note, it's about time for La Cygne to turn on as soon as this indian summer goes away.
  3. I think it makes you a better angler for the above reasons. It very much immulates golf. You have your local guy that wins all the tournaments on his home course and takes all the money on daily games. Yet he goes to another course and is just so-so. You also have the guy that wins a lot of tournaments around the area but when he goes to the state amateur or regional event, he can't break an egg, let alone break par. A lot depends on how one handles pressure. Some people thrive on it and some people choke on it. (see Memphis in last year's NCAA basketball final). Some people are made for tournament competition and some people just enjoy relaxed fishing, golf, bowling, etc.
  4. Lived in Lawrence for 12 years and only fished Clinton when I had to. There are some decent fish in there but they're tough on the best of days. Try Lone Star. It's about 6 miles south of Clinton. Nothing unusual to have a 20 - 30 fish day with a couple good ones mixed in. Also, Leavenworth Co. St. Lake can be good. Hillsdale used to be pretty good but I've heard it's tough the last couple of years. Look into Smithville as well. There are some pigs up there. Good Luck!
  5. Capt., I think there are several reasons for this, in no particular order: More time to post on internet sites with shorter days. Less pressure on the fish with football, hunting, and people just done for the year. Most everyone knows to s-l-o-w down in cold water. (A good idea for bigger fish in warm water as well) Fish gourging up for the winter. Fish are more predictable in colder water. Fish are more concentrated in colder water. And for me personally, I have a lot more time to fish.
  6. The best cold water story I have happened on Feb. 14th in the late 80's in SW Iowa. I went to a small pond with my float tube because most of the ice had melted. Threw a jig n pig up on the ice, pulled it off and let it sink in about 12' of water. Felt a little tap, set the hook, and pulled up one a little over 5#. Next cast, did the same thing and caught my PB at the time, 8 3/4#. My top 5, from 9.40 to 10.25, in Texas have all been caught between November and March. That's my story and I'm sticking to it!
  7. Me too. The winter is interminable. :'( There are two things I like about winter. One is college basketball, although we lost 87% of our scoring from last year, it'll be a fun year. The other thing I like is being able to make several fishing trips to Texas. 8-)
  8. Hit a couple of pits that I've not fished before yesterday. Water was between 54 and 58 degrees. Only caught 6 dinks and one about 2 pounds on swim senko. Bite was very light and water was gin clear.
  9. Buddy of mine is Wally World manager here. I'll see him at the bar in about an hour or so. He'll get a kick out of that one! ;D
  10. One bass every 8 minutes of fishing.
  11. I've been thinking about this since I saw it this morning and really don't know. By late March I had 70 some in Texas and 30 some in Kansas so I would have to guess 250 - 350 since I don't get to fish much in the summer.
  12. Sounds like a good plan but don't forget topwater first thing on shallow flats near deeper water. Fluke, swim senko, ring fry on the grass edges. Good luck!
  13. $0.00 Medicare will take care of em. By the way, this is a cruel post on my 55th birthday! :
  14. Along with those, try crank baits and traps. One that nobody uses any more is the old Johnson Silver Minnow and believe it or not, it still works.
  15. Go on down to Nebraska City to Paap's Sport Shop at the south end of town. If he is still alive, he knows everyplace in SE Nebraska and SW Iowa that is good. If you do, tell him the guy that brought in the biggest bass he's ever weighed sent you.
  16. There are hands in the picture? Ya know which one I hate on here? "X2" as the sole response to a question... x2 ;D +1
  17. What time are you going to pick me up on Saturday morning? ;D I will have coffee and sausage biscuits ready. I got lunch covered... ;D I got the beer when we're finished. Been fishing for 50 years and have ONE 10# bass to my credit. I wouldn't mind catching them all weekend. ;D
  18. Got a small tournament down there this weekend and have never seen the lake. Fairly shallow, some docks and reed lined banks is what I've found out so far. I have a plan but would appreciate any input from anyone that has fished it. Thanks.

Welcome. Great place to learn and to share.
  21. I am so excited. More trips to Texas and good fishing around here. Work is starting to slow down so more time to fish.
  22. The grass is gone for the most part. Wacky rigs, shakey heads, and small crankbaits have produced for a friend of mine lately. The deeper water docks have been better. He hasn't had a whole lot of luck on brushpiles this summer but who knows? I would also c-rig a ring fry or baby brush hog on the points like the one closest to the middle ramp.
  23. Split-shotting is like a light carolina rig (sort of). I usually use it when I'm fishing with a spinning rig with light line and throwing a senko, fluke, or other weightless plastic. I'll put the split shot anywhere from 6" to 2' up from the hook if the wind is blowing too much to get any feel or if I want the plastic to scoot above the grass.
