The big problem seems to be with HR. Find out who the bonehead was and make him/her come to your department and explain the stupid mistake. It's been my experience that HR establishes the guidelines for salary increases (for example, 4% for your entire department.) It's up to the department manager to allocate those funds to each individual. Perhaps 6% to the better performers and 2% to the less productive.

I have a Garmin Nuvi. While it is OK most of the time it gets confused occasionally and will try to lead me down dead end roads. That's a real pain when you are towing a boat. A few weeks ago I was traveling down a four-lane, arrow-straight highway in Missouri, and the Nuvi suddenly decided that I needed to turn right. My destination was still twenty miles away so I ignored it. That was probably a good thing, because there was no place to turn right.

Why disconnect the cranking battery when garage charging? The on-board electronics will not be harmed by the battery charger. To the electronics, the charger looks just like a well charged battery. It's like hooking up the battery charger directly to the electronic wires attached to the battery. If you unplug your sonar/GPS unit, including built-ins, and disconnect (switch-off) the power cable from the OB engine, then you will not get charging current to the PC boards, otherwise you can damage the them. The newer sonar/GPS and OB's have memory chips etc that get damaged by charging cranking batteries used to run the electronics. WRB WRB, you may know a lot about fishing, but you don't know squat about electronics. Conversely, I don't know squat about fishing, but I now a lot about electronics. To put it mildly, you have no idea what you are talking about. It's best that you change the subject.

Today, my bride and I celebrated our 40th wedding anniversary. Our two daughters created a wonderful surprise for us. To begin with, they sent us on a scavenger hunt. At each stop we were given a clue to the next stop, along with a gift. After the fifth stop it suddenly occurred to my wife that each of the gifts was of Italian origin. Well, to make a long story short, we completed the hunt and were finally presented with our gift from the girls; an all-expense-paid trip to Rome, Italy! I cannot put my feelings into mere words. How does one express overwhelming pride, love, and joy for having these three women grace my life as they have? I am truly a very lucky man. Thanksgiving has a more than special meaning to me now.
