  1. Ma is definitely one of the best states in the north. Yea we don’t compare to down south but for a pure northern strain largemouth or smallies we are one of the top states. Many fish over 6lbs, couple 7s and 1 8lb northern strain largemouth. I don’t smallie fish much but I’ve caught 2 smallies over 5lbs. 5-5 and 6-9. We also have some fantastic saltwater fishing! Big stripers, tuna, ground fish, warm water visitors down the cape. Ma is one of the best states to target carp. Many 30lbs carp are caught. Big pike. Close to Nh and Me for beautiful trout and salmon.
  2. Love that bait! Great night bait! my favorite wake colors are mostly solid colors. Black, white, red, chartreuse or a silver shad style color. I fish big wake baits though
  3. Oh definitely when I first started, I fish wakes hard at night! That was a huge help for my swimbait game. You are literally matching what they eat! They eat a 7 inch shad, they got a bait for that. A 12 inch trout, a 8 Inch sunny, etc. swimbaits are very very realistic. Swimbaits can also be a search tool. So if you are getting a bunch of followers on a big bait but they won’t commit. Leave them, then come back for a different approach. You know the fish are there. The bass especially biggons will come out of the abyss to check it out!
  4. 100% I started catching more bigger fish. I still fish conventional baits. Tubes, jigs, plastics, jerkbaits etc, but ever since I started fishing swimbaits I’ve started catching bigger fish. I live in MA. Been fishing big baits since 2016. Night time big baits have been awesome! This year I have 8lbs 2 ounce, 7lbs 5 ounce, 7lbs 1 ounce, 6lbs 13 ounce, 5lbs 11 ounce 5 even on swimbaits! Hooked bigger! I have many more big fish on swimbaits over the years!
  5. Fallen through the ice twice. Been in some horrible thunderstorms on the ocean a few times. Coyotes! Chased by rabid animals
  6. Zoom fluke weedless
  7. Tube or a super fluke
  8. I’ve used those in saltwater. It never crossed my mind to use them in freshwater!
  9. Amen to that. New England has taken off with the swimbaits. Lot of new builders and big fish being caught
  10. I’ve had a 21-5 smallie bag for best 5 in one day in MA. I can keep going. But Ma doesn’t have any good bassin. Place is dead and full of dink fish. Fish elsewhere.
  11. I know of some guys who do well in Maine and NH around that time on blade baits
  12. I have to disagree, yes people do keep fish and it sucks. But for the ammount of 6 plus pound bass I’ve seen caught, caught myself and hooked(lost) is pretty remarkable. In one month, last Mid march to Mid April. I had 3 bass over 7lbs. 8-2, 7-5 and 7-1 from 3 different places. While it may be better else where. Of course Florida, Texas, Cali are better. But for Northern states, Massachusetts is one of the best. This past week my buddy who fishes the North Shore had 28lbs for best 5. 2 6s 2 5s and a high 4. I know of a 10lb bass caught last week as well from central Ma. I know quite a few guys that caught 8lb plus bass this season. It may not be all the time but the fact that there’s a legit shot of catching true giant bass around here is awesome. Trust me I would absolutely love to catch multiple giants in a day, it’s not like that around here. Tournament bags weighing 20lbs for single day are needed to win.
  13. Massachusetts has some impressive bass fishing. I have at least 500 bodies of water within an hour drive from my house. Beside the massive amounts of water, the bass grow big to! Our state record is 15lbs. Many 8lbs bass and a few bigger are caught each year. You can fish a variety of places. From shallow, clear grassy places to deep sand bowls and offshore fisheries. If you like stained shallow weedy ponds, we got those to. The capes winters are a bit warmer then the rest of the state, so the growing season is a bit longer. I definitely think MA is a top northern strain bass state. We also have some incredible smallmouth as well. Maybe not as good as the Great Lakes. But some of these smallies grow big! MA has some d**n good bassin, you have to remember there’s 2 different strains of bass. The northern largemouth, the Florida strain, and it’s hybrid. Florida strain can’t grow here, it’s to cold. But for northern strain largemouth, it’s pretty dang good.
  14. I fish tubes year round, from 37 degrees to 80! I love tubes
  15. I do well fall, winter and spring on swimbaits. So maybe a bigger jerkbait should be added to my arsenal. When I mean cold, I’m in Massachusetts so it gets pretty cold
  16. I’m that guy, I’ll find a bait that I love and I buy all the colors. My buddy on the other hand, will just use one or 2 lures in one color! He loved a zoom fluke. He only uses white! No other colors! That’s it.
  17. Could only get bit on tubes the other day. I’m not surprised, it’s my go to for this spot. They always eat a tube
  18. I love fishing big baits looking for the bigger fish. Has anyone tried bigger jerkbaits in the cold water season? I’m still working on my jerkbait skills i was looking at the Megabass Kantana
  19. I’ve got some big fish on chatters in the summer. Fishin them like a jig
  20. Doesn’t hurt to try! I don’t fish chatters as much as I should
  21. Good luck. It’s tough to get to. Require some dragging. Lot of pleasure boaters in the summer. The ramp is private! Very big place. Honestly you can fish it like 2 or maybe 3 different ponds! Got out on the kayak, wanted to hit a couple spots. Hit one I haven’t fished much, couldn’t put a pattern together. I got one smallie on a jerkbait shortly after launch. Fished deep and shallow, tubes, jerkbaits, lipless and hair jig. I did miss decent one on a jig I made. Hit one of my favorite ponds to salvage the slow day. Got a decent one shortly after launch on the tube. It was still slow. Fished the area for a bit. Got a small largemouth on a jerkbait. Switched up tubes tried a different angles jigs and colors, I had the 60 degree on tried the 90. Missed a nice smallie on the jump picked off 2 more bass. Biggest going 3.3. Got a nice pickerel to end the day on my jig! I don’t get many smallies at the 2nd pond. It’s not big but I noticed that most of them are on one side, gravel side, while the largemouth are on the grassy side. I catch 9 largemouth to 1 smallie here, even dead winter. But I also don’t fish the whole pond. I sit in the grass and get the largemouth. They are aggressive and can be caught even when the pond is mostly frozen. I just noticed this today cuz I haven’t caught a decent smallie here in a while! My buddy lost a giant smallie here a few years ago. I saw the fish come up and roll cuz it couldn’t jump. Just a football, big bright white belly. That fish was in the largemouth territory in February
  22. The first time I went the weather that week was good!
  23. Don’t know the water temp, Feels chilly. I was fishing from shore. I don’t recall a smell. It’s a a 300 acre pond that’s 50 feet deep. I’ve honestly never seen it cloudy or stained.
  24. So last week, Friday, September 30, I went out night fishin to one of my favorite spots, the shore line was clear but you can tell the water is super cloudy as you go deeper. This place is deep and normally very clear. I went back a week later during the day , Friday October 7th, water was clearing up but a lot of stuff floating in the water, still had a tint but you can still see bottom. Did the lake turn over and is it worth fishin ? It’s kind of a pain to get the boat to so that’s why I’m asking!
  25. 6.5 inch and 8 inch. I love the 8 inch. These are floating glides. After you cast they’ll sit for a couple seconds before slowly rising. When you start the retrieve, the bait will stay at the depth. So you can fish it over shallow weed beds or just in super shallow water. You can also fish it on top. Like a spook.
