Why Buying Hundreds of Lures is a Good Thing

Because eventually even you will begin to recognize the crap and the hype.

Yes and that you only really need a handful of lures.

But it's too late by then...the money's gone! ;)

Yep, I've got over a hundred and throw 5 everytime I go out....... what's up with that?

Well we as fisherman always want to improve and the wallet is the first to succumb to this desire ?

Some of the weirdest lures catch fish. Some of the most beautiful lures catch fisherman.

I got stuck so many times this weekend I thought I might need 100. I even sent a spinnerbait from a branch out into the deep blue water sailing over my head after the line snapped

My collection seems to grow more and more every month, and like a good redneck I can't pass up a deal. That being said I think I could have 1 3600 size box fill it and never buy anything different ever again (except replacements).

My collection of lures grows and shrinks. I have baits where I went hog wild because of hype and ended up not catching a single fish on them (Rapala X-wraps for example). Others have been, I bought one in a basic color and caught fish with it and before I know it, I have 6 or 7 of that bait in different colors. The worst for me has been Megabass Vision 110s. I am a sucker for colors and variations because they all catch fish but I could probably end up using really only a few colors and be fine.

Some of them are incredible gems. That's what we search for.  Vision 110s, vision jr and anything megabass has lived up to the hype and exceeded it.  Jackall slender point and 78 is an outstanding lure.  Duo realis rozzante smaller profile with erratic action.   Gancraft split tail soft plastic.  Yamamoto fat Ika.

I’m more into buying spares these days or the occasional pattern that catches my eye and I’ll say “I’ll catch a Smallie on that”. Generally will catch at least one, multiple’s, more often than not.

Not sure of your age but if you stick with bass fishing to 60+ years old you’ll have a big enough of a collection to burry any local tackle shop. Good fishing.

I’m that guy, I’ll find a bait that I love and I buy all the colors. My buddy on the other hand, will just use one or 2 lures in one color!  He loved a zoom fluke. He only uses white! No other colors! That’s it.

Not me.  I'm a tackle junky, and I get satisfaction just looking at all my stuff ?  ?

Me, too!  I would guess that I might use 5% of my hard baits, but I promise myself

"next year" I'm going to use EVERYTHING at least once.

You just keep telling yourself that, Kent. :laugh5:

I fish a lot of plastics. I go through hundreds of a few baits each year. This reminds me, the other day it occurred to me that I've been fishing the same 3/8 tungsten flippin weight since early summer. #STRAIGHTBRAIDBRIGADE!!! ?

I have so many packs of plastics that I've used one out of and haven't touched since. Hardbaits that have never seen water and likely never will. I could get by with a small bag with one box in it but I carry a BPS tackle backpack that weighs about 40 lbs! Once I realized you really don't make anything selling plastics and handbags, unless they are megabss!! So I stopped buying tackle until I run out of something that is working.
