I just passed on a river-front cabin
My carpenter fishing pal was over one day and we were standing underneath it. I said man I gotta replace this whole deck. He says why? If I took a bit right now and drilled into your trusses, I guarantee they aren’t rotten. Then he started knocking on them and said they are solid. Like you just said, it’s all the stuff above that is weathered

That’s a good point, it’s the forever home. Probably just have to borrow and try to pay it off as fast as possible. It’s 32x8 I think, not a massive project. One level rectangle. Me and a friend can screw it all together but still have to buy the boards. The in-laws said they got 12 1” thick composite boards for $800 something dollars, I’m not sure how long they were though im also told their are many different brands of composite now, seems it used to be just trex

At What Temperature Do You Stop Fishing?
I agree. If there’s precip that isn’t snow below 37-38 degrees, I’d rather not. I can be talked into it, but being soaking wet below those temps is pretty rough. I would rather fish in high 20s with snow, that cold rain is just the worst

That seems to be the way we are leaning but holy smokes that stuff must be 24 karat . The strategy so far is don’t go near the railing haha. The wood is from 1989 but I don’t think you can get wood nowadays that’s quite as “pressure treated” as it was back then. It rots a good bit faster now according to a guy I know that builds docks and decks

Luckily our second lake property only needs mowed about 5-7 times a year and gutters cleaned about the same frequency. My dad designed it all to be low maintenance. I do need to rebuild the back deck and more importantly I need adult supervision while doing so

As you got deeper into this hobby did you begin to learn that there really are very small windows where the bite is great?
That’s just because you don’t ice fish. Something tells me you could vertical jig an 8 lb thru the ice on a jerkbait

Bass Travel Routes
They prefer to travel along routes where there’s something to eat and they won’t get killed. And some of them don’t travel at all Seems like I’ve even read studies where a big white tail buck never traveled more than a 1/4 mile. Add in water overhead and big ole bass can hide in a small space for years

Mine seem to have been from December-February also. And I’ve caught some really nice ones in the heat of summer

Went out about 1 pm and it was cold and windy, you can see snow on the higher peaks in the background I tried to fish the main channel but I couldn’t hack it, maybe just the first blast of cold and I wasn’t used to it. The same weather will probably feel warm in late February. I found some calmer waters up against a rock wall. Just a short pitch from the bank, my boat was sitting in 50 feet. I missed 4 in a row and finally caught two. Then missed some more, they were chomping and carrying it away fast . Water temp was still 62 and I think they were pretty active

Thanks mick, I tried a few videos and the guys were talking about how nice of a day it was and blah blah and different model and not about removing them. I hadn’t checked back until now after I got it loose and didn’t see your video the pins were just really hard to knock out, may have lost hearing I’ve still got the mount on the boat, that’s going to be another half day bloody knuckle project but at least now I can tow it down the road and fish . Might just leave the mount to advertise for minn kota hahaha- Maxxum removal help
