  1. Just a good tough boat that tons of people still have. Also they are easy to restore and modify, I see them on the water frequently from that era. My buddy just sold one that he ran ragged, driving it through shoals all the time. There’s no way it should have still ran or floated and it did both
  2. Those are legendary! Might even be an owners club out there somewhere
  3. I use mono backing for rods with fluoro . I’ve never measured how much fluoro I put on but I try to imagine putting two long casts worth on.
  4. Compression gauge is cheap, might as well grab one and take it. When the boat is on the trailer, grab the leading edge of the lower unit and wiggle it, watch for play in the transom. It’s also always good to test drive , I’ve bought a couple motors that ran great in a barrel but bogged down pushing a boat. In a glass boat, just walk around it several times and look at everything really close. See if you can walk around (maybe lightly jump if the seller isn’t watching) on the floor of the boat, feeling for bad stringers or floor boards. You could also probably feel if stringers were bad on the test drive, not sure as I haven’t driven a glass boat much. See if everything looks really dry inside, not like there’s a constant drip coming from wet foam. Better yet find the foam and touch it if possible
  5. @lo n slo, I’ve caught that same stuff before . Unfortunately I have no idea what it’s called
  6. Sunday was the only nice weather and subsequently the worst fishing aoki is crazy good
  7. 40 degree weather is my favorite unless it’s pouring. The fishing is still good but cold and wet just sucks (and rusts all my hooks)
  8. Why exactly are y’all cutting through the hooks? I’m guessing it’s either to get the rest of the lure away from yourself or cutting it after pushing all the way thru. I’ve been hooked more times than I can keep track of. We only cut the hook one of those times and I don’t think it was a necessary part of the removal process, although I was 13 years old that time so I may not have the details quite straight haha. I know it was a buzz bait so I believe they cut it so I wouldn’t be buzzing around. My neighbor actually fainted when he cut through it ! Then mom drove me to a doctor/fisherman friends house and he numbed with ice cube and just backed the heavy wire hook with barb right out, no pain and barely any blood. I think he said most of the time you can back the hook out the exact way it went in, I guess that’s the theory behind the braid trick (minus the speed). I really need to learn that braid trick but i don’t want to hook myself to practice side note: @GreenPigis big strong dude, if he is breaking pliers torquing a hooked leg, going to need anesthesia
  9. Spinnerbait, crankbaits, whopper ploppers, Alabama rigs, probably a few more im forgetting. No it finally didn’t work out for me haha
  10. From an outsider prospective, ice fishing seems really cool. Then when it comes to actually walking out on a frozen lake, I believe I would change my mind and stay on dry land
  11. just bustin your chops, I know you’ve got a life on the side unlike me
  12. Thank you, those are the kits I was referring to. Gotta keep matches in the boat just for that reason
  13. Happens all the time, it always cracks me up sneaking up a tiny trout stream and the top half splashes into the water. I always replace the top guide if it’s broken on $20 rods , the other guides aren’t quite a cost effective use of time sporting goods stores sell a tip replacement kits for cheap, the glue holds ok but gobs up. Super glue works better I’m told but I’ve never tried that
  14. Heck yeah ! If we had some medium sized ones, maybe I could actually catch one every now and then haha
  15. Chad pipkens never wears a hat either, I’m totally blinded without a hat on even if it’s raining
  16. Ironically, I hate bobbers ! My least favorite thing in fishing history. I can put on a small jig and catch bluegill about anywhere. Hang the jig under a bobber and I’m guaranteed to get skunked
  17. Nice! I think your little guy is a standard LMB. I’ve never heard of them hybridizing with spots but SMB hybridize with spots regularly I can’t catch a striper to save my life the last two years, granted most of ours are 20-50 lbs so I guess they are not as numerous and/or smart
  18. Take the back hook off your trap
  19. She’s a beaut!!!!!
  20. That’s quick!!! My 13 hp mud motor goes about 7-9 mph upstream haha
  21. I can’t wait to see some fish pics from up north after ice out! They should be feeling their oats and chomping at the bit
  22. Me too!!! Hahah. Especially after I’ve gotten stuck for the 15th time and had to break off again. Maddening I say Every time any of my buddies loses a fish, my friend will says “you horsed him.” So of course then we all started saying it, like clockwork
