Bass Pro Excel mono
it is slightly easier to see. Love the line on casting reels, but it gets twisted on spinning reels. all in all very tough and good line for cheap.

Are cheap bait casters reliable in tournaments?
well it looks like I will probably be keeping the reels for now!

Cost to regrip rods
I am looking at purchasing a few falcon buccoo sr casting rods. For whatever reason I can't stand Eva grips and was wondering how hard and costly it would be to replace the grips with Winn or full cork handles?

Are cheap bait casters reliable in tournaments?
I recently found a great deal on two black max reels. I needed to find reels for two spare casting rods I had laying around. Now I have 8ish casting setups. Most of my rods are around 100-150$ and reels about 200+ with the exception of the black maxes. I fish a few small tournaments a year that are big bass and big pike. My question is whether or not I can rely on these reels during the tournament and also when im out on the water. I could also sell the two for a small profit and get a better reel. what would you do? Also what techniques should I use these 6.4:1 reels for? edit* what I am really asking is whether or not I can rely on these reals during a tournament. Also, I have two Shimano casitas's that I am slightly afraid to use in tournaments because they feel cheapish.

Never thought about that until now; however, it makes perfect sense. I will be replacing my life vests when I start fishing bigger lakes where being located becomes a factor! Thanks again for your service!

Drop shot after ice out
Like NYWayfarer mentioned, I through the drop shot as my main technique on a New England lake that is crystal clear, I use it year round here. Also, on my home lake in Carbon county Pa, presumably close to where you are, I have landed quite a few fish on the drop shot when 90% of the lake is frozen. I have actually landed more big fish this way than any other, while fishing this lake. I like to start with a bucktail chatter bait to cover some water and see if there are some semi active fish around, usually I catch one or two decent fish, but if not, I pick up a couple on the drop shot. I like 6 lb test and a 3' leader for this. also a small bait with minimal action, and a painstakingly slow retrieve good luck

Powerbait for trout
Great ideas here! Opening day starts at 8 and sunrise will be 6:26, so the bite will be slowing down by then. I am planning on using lures in the beginning because a reaction bite is so much fun! PS I like th jighead and gulp rig a lot, I know the perfect spot to try it in a stream near me! ilyk how I do!

Powerbait for trout
thanks, I had a feeling I was making it too complicated. What you are saying about the trout in lakes makes sense. I will plan on being observant and using my electronics as well! Great point. Lake closes march first for all fishing, and opens April 13. Trout are stocked sometime in between. Lake is shallow and expectation is that most trout will die/be caught by summer. The trophies and some of the trout do adapt and survive though. I caught a massive brown (not one of the trophies) on my first cast of 2019, and it did have a perch in its gullet/stomach. Like I said, I agree that I am making it more complicated, and I appreciate more experienced anglers like yourself taking the time to help me out. I really appreciate it and it means a lot to me. I am allowed three rods at one time in pa, my plan is usually to set two powerboat and one active reeling technique. I am always open to new ideas. I have used the waxworks when I was 4-5 years old and had great luck, so ill give it another try. If i'm not mistaken, the new rig you are talking about is similar to a float n fly? seems effective in my weedy lake.

Powerbait for trout
I am getting ready for opening day in PA for trout. Yes, it is April 13, like 3 months from now, but I am probably the most analytical and prepared person you will ever meet. The lake is stocked well with brown, brook and rainbow trout all 14-16" with a few trophies in there. Lake is small and has one deep side where all the trout are. This is where everyone fishes from also. I am one of the few people that takes their boat out (14' v hull) My plan is to go slightly more than two casting distances off shore, so that I don't cross lines with bank anglers. There it is like 6-10'. I will use powerboat off the bottom. Hopefully there isn't milfoil like there usually is. I am mostly a bass kid, but spending opening day with my grampa. I therefore don't have any trout rods. I do have like 6 higher end drop shot and finesse rods that have worked fine for me. Last year I didn't catch any because the conditions were terrible (everyone skunked), but I also ran into problems with my gear. I was trying to fish a modified Carolina rig with smaller stuff for trout, but it was getting all tangled and wasn't floating. This year I am going to get a trout rod or two and use the tiny treble hooks and split shots with that, and modified Carolina rig with the bass rods. I also got a fish finder and am excited to mark the fish where nobody else can!

Choosing Colors (idea)
I recently started a thread asking whether people preferred the dream shot or roboworm. I got a response from @Spankey that gave me an idea. What if you had two anglers on a lake that wanted to figure out the best color to use on that particular water body? I was thinking that you could take the best baits for that water body and rig up two different colors on identical rods and reels. One person uses color 1 of bait A and the other person uses color 2 of bait A. Fish the lure the same way and when one person switches so does the other. I realize that certain times when casting to specific targets matters more than color choice (take dock fishing for example). This is an idea that I want to try out as it hypothetically could be very helpful!

Dream Shot vs. Roboworm
Ever fished two hooks on one drop shot rig at once? It looks weird, is hard to rig and cast, but sure does work!

Dream Shot vs. Roboworm
I recently picked up a few packs of dream shots. I think they are going to be a great bait. I have also read great things about the Roboworm. Which one do you prefer and why?

when to use certain lines with certain rods...
last year I only had two casting setups. This year I have many more and have done some experimenting to see what works best for me. On my home lake which is very small, the Chatterbait is typically the best bait to throw. I tried throwing it on a very flimsy 7'1" m mod Crankbaits rod with 12 lb mono that stretches a ton and found that I had very little sensitivity and did not like throwing the Chatterbait on that setup. I later put braid on the reel (15 lb, yeah I know its light) and loved it. It was great for open water but not around cover. I also tried night fishing a whopper popper 110 with beefy hooks from the bank on a 7'3" H xf rod with 50 lb braid. I had trouble hooking the fish over and over. I think that by using a flimsy rod and stretchy line, I had too little control making it hard to fish, and on the other rod I was ripping out hooks because everything was stiff. My thinking is to use either a stiff rod and stretchy line fo chatterbaits, like a 7' mh xf with 17 lb mono or floro that stretches a lot or flimsy rod with non stretch line like braid. I want to experiment both side by side to see which is better ... just me thinking out loud

SCORPION EVO and Glock
I am currently not 18, but will be turning 18 in a few months. I live in PA. It appears that I need to be 21 in order to purchase a handgun from “a licensed dealer” but could theoretically buy one from a “private sale” i want ant to purchase a Scorpion EVO Pistol and convert it into an SBR. Want to add several mods like a flashlight laser acog and suppressor and drum mag. Also would like to purchase a glock 17/19. Is this possible to do legally in PA?

Scorpion 71 vs. Scorpion DC
I am looking at getting designated Jerkbait and Chatterbait setups in december. As far as rods go, I am looking at a 6'4" M St. Croix Avid X and a 7'0" MH Cousin's im8 for the Chatterbait rod. I really like the look and design of both the Scorpion 71 and the Scorpion DC. What reel do you think would match each rod and technique the best? I would be using the Chatterbait rod for chatterbaits during tournaments and it would serve as an all purpose rod with 15-17 lb fluorocarbon when fun fishing. The jerkbait rod will be for jerk baits and small cranks with 10 lb fluorocarbon. also what gear ratios would you recommend. I was thinking of an 8:1 for the jerk bat to pick up line quickly, and the Chatterbait rod to be a 6 or 7:1.(currently have a 7.3 tattle ct).

Storing Clam Shell Plastics
I fish a lot of Keith swing impacts, and hate how much space the packages take up. I was wondering if using something like this would be better for bulk storage and keeping scent: https://www.tacklewarehouse.com/catpage-PLANOSTRG.html?from=basres looking back, I realized that I would have to store all the same color in one, or else the colors would blend in with each other.

Chatterbaits not working...
I recently purchased a bunch of z man chatter baits. some were elites and the others were originals. I bought like 6 of them at two different places. I have had great luck with them in the past. I threw ***/8 oz bait on a 7'1" m mod rod with 12 lb mono and with a 7' mh rod. the blade did not seem to vibrate the whole time. I tried changing trailers, rods, and bending the blade but the blades weren't vibrating the whole time. any I dear why this is happening? I thought it was one bad bait but its happened a few times now.
