I had a plan similar to yours last year.............I vowed to have a jig tied on at all times and use it.........I was not good with jigs going into the year. It paid off big time............several bass over 20 inches all but one on a jig. But...........I did not limit myself to just using jigs, I still used other lures as the situation called for, but used jigs 99% of the times I went fishing.

I would say unweighted plastics are about as finesse as I go........wacky, t-rig, etc........either worms, senkos, or rage craw types.

I fish quarries a lot.......probably 75% of my fishing. In all of them the bass tend to associate with underwater rock structure much more than wood. Submerged islands, drops, roadways............. It's not always the lure, you have to find the fish.

Agreed. This past summer I was fishing a swimjig/paddletail in very clear water.....I was using a light shad color in both no bites at all. Changed to black jig with a purple paddletail, supposedly for dark water.........I lit it up with catch after catch. I had no intention of working my way through the spectrum from light to dark with different variations along the way.............light or dark is generally my choice process.........

I think lure color has more to due with shade and contrast than it does actual specific color.

The difference between throwing a small to medium popper with two treble hooks and throwing a hollow body frog is quite large. Especially on the hook set. If you HAVE to I'd go with MH/Fast....... A much better solution, at least for the conditions and techniques I use is a MH/Fast and a H/Fast. I sometimes throw my 110 Whopper Plopper on the H/Fast too.

I can't stand the 90. Doesn't seem to run right and haven't caught a fish on them. The 110 is much better in my experience,,,,,,,I bought a couple of 75's and have caught a few bass on them but they were fairly small.

After reading your post, specifically about the rocky bottom it made me realize that I've only had decent success with the Whopper Plopper in two places. A small lake that has a rock bottom that meets up with a soft bottom. There are weeds to the edge of the soft bottom so I fished it along those with success, the other place is a quarry where I fish it around a small island with an obviously rock shelf at about 5 feet deep. Now I can start putting that piece to the puzzle!

I use Yamamoto for "senko's, SK Ocho's I find to soft, Yum Dingers not soft enough Strike King for Craws and bugs, I do have one pack of Googan, Gasp! on the way to see what the hype is about Keitech and Biospawn paddletails I've tried other brands but prefer the above.

That's just plain crazy. Everyone knows that only rods that are orange with green stripes are unlucky. And not based on color but I did just replace my white frogging rod with an upgraded rod that is grey. I did pretty good with the white so I guess I'm really going to kick butt with the new one!

I'm not aware of anyone referencing rod colors with catching fish........did I miss that somewhere in here?

I'm very happy with my Wilderness Systems Radar 115 that has pedal drive capability. I don't have it, but I've heard of some problems with the durability of the drive. Also a lot of people that I know upgraded the peddles. Me, I don't believe in spending that kind of money and having to upgrade something right away on it. But as a fishing kayak, the Radar is fantastic. Stable, smooth, quick. I can stand on it with no issue.

Most of my rods are about the same color. I wish they were a different color because when I'm in the kayak throughout the day and am reaching behind me to grab a different rod they get placed in different holders than I started at. It would be easier for me if I knew to grab the white one, or the green one, or the black one............other than that I don't care......

My frogging and my jig rods both have micro guides. On a side note I can remember several times I've been at BassPro and couldn't help but laugh to myself as I listened to some of the "expert" advice employees were giving customers. I actually went to make an emergency purchase after breaking a rod and had one of them tell me there was virtually no difference between the St Croix BassX and AvidX except price when they didn't have the AvidX I needed. LOL

I have an AvidX M/Moderate crankbait rod that I love. I have used it for jerkbaits. Bigger jerks I throw on a MH/Fast AvidX which works out well since often during those transition periods I have a jerkbait and a crankbait tied onto different rods.

Throughout the season my top 5 were all caught on jigs, but then on the very last day I fished, in 42 degree water I caught my biggest of the year on a Strike King jerk bait.

I'm curious as to why you wouldn't go below 40 lb braid in colder areas? And what do you consider cold? I use 20 lb for cranks without issue.

For just the crankbaits I'd go Medium, but if your going to throw spinnerbaits and chatterbaits with it I'd go MH.
