  1. Just look online and you'll see why not to buy from them.
  2. I know this might be a crazy thought but I had kind of a similar issue. Mine wasn't a backlash but some braid that kind of wrapped weird on the spool. You might try to hook your lure on something and just walk backwards and un-spool the reel. My line got wrapped under itself causing my cast up to that point where it stuck.
  3. There is a 20% off discount for Dobyns Rods on Sportsman's Outfitters for a couple more days if your looking to buy one. https://www.sportsmansoutfitters.com/products/dobyn?_pos=5&_sid=ff42d31b3&_ss=r Discount code: DOBYNS20
  4. You have tons of choices under that $300 mark for a reel. I recommend Daiwa & Shimano, those are the 2 brands I have fished with through my fishing life. I guess it depends if you're just looking for one higher end priced reel or if your spending for a couple reels. You could nearly put 2 decent new combos together for $300. All my rods/reels I own were on sale/discounted.
  5. If you have a phone just film as you take it apart and or take pictures. I use Acetone to clean the bearings. Don't over do it when oiling the bearings it only needs one drop. Use grease on the gears. Jim @ TackleJunky81 on You Tube has some good videos on Bass Pro Pro Qualifier reel disassembly/cleaning/lube service.
  6. Another thing about the Rat-L-Traps is they have several different weights/sizes also. Sometimes it works good to use a lighter weight lipless to help keep higher in the water column.
  7. The Dobyn Fury 705CB is made for Crankbaits / Jerkbaits / Lipless Rattlebaits / LV500 / Sammys / Staycee 90. Basically made for certain techniques listed. I would go towards a 704C or 734C for buzzbaits, jigs, spinnerbaits if you are planning to use Dobyns models.
  8. Yes it will do the job.
  9. I had some extra time today and stopped at the local tackle store and I was snooping through their Diawa rod rack. They had a Daiwa Kage 7'3" All Around model in the rack. It felt like a pretty nice rod, I would say it is just a touch lighter than a Tatula. It has a nice flat black finish & full cork grip. Should be a good quality lineup with alot of specific actions.
  10. Do not buy a Bass X, this is the worst rod I've had in my hands. I've never owned one but I have handled in hand at store. I'd go with Falcon BuCoo or Daiwa at your price point.
  11. Sorry typo corrected it is 7.4oz
  12. I was bored and just wanted to mess around with some of my rods. So I got my digital scale out and wanted to weigh my fishing rods just for the fun of it. I also weighed a Daiwa Fuego CT bait casting reel was 7.4oz without line. -Dobyns Sierra 703C- 4.3oz -Dobyns Sierra 734C- 5.0oz -Dobyns Fury 705CB- 4.4oz -Falcon BuCoo SR BRC-6-174- 4.3oz -Falcon BuCoo SR BRC-7-17- 4.1oz -Lamiglas XP Bass 704C- 4.9oz
  13. I can tell you that the Bass X is no bueno I handled one in hand and it is very tip heavy. I would suggest anything but the Bass X. I have 10-15 year old rods that feel better in hand than the Bass X.
  14. I'm getting pretty good with Daiwa's I disassembled and serviced 8 of them. I sold 2 of my older reels to fund another new reel. Sometimes a guy has to get some fresh gear every 10 years or so.?
  15. I put several of the silica packages in each tackle box, I've never had a rust issue.
  16. I just sold some of my 10-15 year old Daiwa & Shimano reels, I got 50-75% of the original price when I bought them. I've never had a issue with either brands. I've never used a Lew's product so I have no personal experience except they use ugly colors on some of their equipment.?
  17. Oh yeah you can't deny that cork knob doesn't look nice.
  18. My lures go into my boxes, I don't have extra tackle sitting around in my garage or anything like that. Highly recommend getting hook bonnets for your treble hook lures, makes fishing much easier not having to untangle 6 different crankbaits wrapped together. I keep 75% of my tackle in this one tackle bag. The other selection of my baits are soft plastics which are stored vertically in small totes in my boat and easy to go through to find what I want to use. I like everything organized and easy to access so I know where it is. I just restock at the end of the season when they have fall/christmas sales.
  19. 7 Bearing count & 1000-4000 sizes on Tatula LT. Kage LT 10 Bearing count & 1000-2500 size.
  20. Most of my crankbait hooks are #4 or #6 hook size. I've used those hooks in his video, they were decent but they weren't amazing either. If you plan to buy them on ebay count on waiting a month. I've ordered online from KDS Sporting Goods for my treble hooks and have been happy with their service. They have Eagle Claw & Mustad Trebles. I ordered mine in quantity of 100 and replaced hooks on lower priced treble hook baits. I left a link below to their site on the treble hooks. https://www.fishkds.com/apps/webstore/products/category/1440601
  21. I would add that not all rod manufacturers power ratings/actions will be the same either.
  22. I have braid on everything except a couple crankbait setups. For braid I use 30/40#
  23. -If you cork is dirty I use a magic eraser to clean the cork. Let it sit overnight to dry. -I use painters tape to cover any plastic edges and exposed blank areas near the edges. -I've used bristled brushes, but foam works also. With my bristle brush I just clean it off with soap & water when done using it, I just mark the brush with a sharpie (U40) and store it next to the cork sealer. That way I always have it together and re-coat in the winter when I'm not on the water. -Just clean up any drip as you go along, it doesn't take much so go easy with it so it isn't dripping off. The cork will darker once it dries. -After I've finished the rods I'll pull the tape after about an hour. -This is the darkened finish after applying U40.
