Did the pandemic create a shortage?
Pork ribs are twice the cost they were last year at Costco too.....$45 for 3 racks. Luckily prime beef tenderloin is still around $22lb.

Did the pandemic create a shortage?
Tariffs, trade wars, the pandemic, shift in work force routines, closure of food services...so many factors. This will be a terrific topic for business schools to lecture upon for many years. And the mental health impact may never really be fully understood for generations.

What bait/lure or technique do you struggle with the most?
Same, drop shot for me too. I either catch nothing, or I break off after a couple casts and I pick up a T-rig and catch them.

Who would be interested in a MD get together?
I’m in Allen, have my new rig so I can boat someone. I’m also up for hosting a few people for whiskey, cigars, and gear discussions, I’m about 2 miles off Exit 5 I-270.

Does my Navionics Hotmaps card need to be activated if I buy it used?
FYI - Navionics has a $50 rebate on their cards purchased from their site.

Anyone else clean line guides?
I clean them as necessary, because it mostly depends on the water quality, the tidal Potomac can get muddied up real quick sometimes. Braid also picks up mud caked onto lily pads and transfers them to the guides, which also cake up in the summer heat which creates friction on the line. I've had a couple random break offs while casting a frog and I suspect it was due to caked up guides. Haven't had a break off since cleaning the guides every couple trips in muddy water.

Scams!
I ported my home line to Google Voice and forward calls to my mobile phone. GV has a really good phone screening feature where if GV doesn’t recognize the number in its database it requires the caller to state their name and let’s screen the call. Verizon Mobile also does its own screening before my cell phone rings. Between GV and VZ, I don’t get robo calls about expired car insurance or IRS liens anymore.

Repairing dead lawn...
Mow the bare spots at the lowest setting you can, then take a weed whacker and scalp it down to expose the dirt. Till it, by hand works but at least use something to loosen up the soil. Use some seed (whatever mix you decide), some starter fertilizer, and then put some peat moss on it and lightly water it 2-3 times a day. Depending on the soil temps is how fast they germinate and sprout. If you water it and it's puddling on the peat moss, that's too much. Or go the sod route, but I prefer to see stuff grow.

Cheap beer connoisseurs : PBR vs Hamms
I get PBR Tallboys once in a while, but I prefer Natty Boh at the ballpark. Never had a Hamm's, I will have to look for it.

Should I use clips?
I like Mustad Fastach's. They require a slight rotation of the lure and some lures that have a lip such as a crankbait or wakebait won't fit, so I use TA Power Clips in those situations.

Troubleshoot - '86 Yamaha 50HP 2 stroke
I recently sold my 1986 Bomber Scout to a young man. The last time I ran the boat was last October and it was fine, and I did an earmuff test for him in my driveway, where I cranked it and let it run in neutral for 5 minutes or so. The problem is it will crank fine, idle fine, and will cruise around 6mph fine, but when he tries to go on plane the engine will cut out. He can get it to idle with high RPMs fine, but as soon as he kicks it into forward gear and tries to get higher RPMs it will cut out. He replaced the spark plugs, fresh 87 octane gas with sea foam, gas line bulb is firm, engine light is green when it shuts down. Any ideas on what it could be?

Best Chatterbait trailer under $3
I like 5” grubs, like GY or Zoom as all around blades jig and spinner bait trailers.

Maryland's Who's who!
I just got my second shot so I'm game. I've only fished Widewater and Little Seneca Lake for LMB this year, but at Little Seneca the big ones were cruising in deeper water than the small ones. All of the small dinks were in shallow 1-3' of water around lay downs. I caught all my big ones (bigger than 2lbs) at the end of these laydowns where the water was >5' or they were cruising deeper water along steep banks. As for Widewater, I've given up trying to figure out a pattern for that place other than I use moving baits along the rock wall edge and I either get a good largie, or a greedy green sunfish.

Brother's new boat got some local TV love...
This pretty much sums up my experience too! Wife gave me the green light, I started searching and had to expand out to 1,000 miles to get the boat I wanted. Sold my old boat in 10 days via FaceTime.

Spotlock GPS puck placement - where is yours?
I'm going to try and set it to -1; I'm in a Lund 1875 PVB and it's a 1500lb boat so I read it should be set to -2, which is where I had it. What would not calibrate on your puck, the heading since the puck is heading only? I guess what I'm asking is, can the Ultrex spotlock accuracy be affected by the heading puck location, or is spotlock (since GPS is built into the Ultrex) independent of the puck?

Could I tow long distance with a Toyota Tacoma?
Drove 700 miles from WI to DC with a 3,000 package, part of which was through the Appalachians in my BMW X5 35D, rated for 6,000lbs. The trailer has surge breaks and I had no issues cruising at 74 most of the way. The BMW towing package and adaptations to the transmission coded and is not standard.

Spotlock GPS puck placement - where is yours?
Alrighty then...gotta figure out why my boat was pivoting all over the place.

Spotlock GPS puck placement - where is yours?
I have an Ultrex and the GPS puck was placed next to the driver console. I was trying to spotlock on a windy point today, and my boat was moving all around. I did the sensor calibration, and boat size offset. But I think the Ultrex was trying to pivot the boat around the GPS puck location, which was the center of the boat. I'm thinking that maybe moving it to the bow would be better, since once the bow is pointed into the wind it would probably move less.

Maryland's Who's who!
Yep, finally got the missus to sign off and needed 4 seats for the family. C&O from Swains downward will be frogging season by May, there's so much left over duckweed and grass from last year. Very different year indeed, hopefully we don't have weeks and weeks of rain followed up 40's in late April like last year. It's kind of a pain to take in and out of the garage, but maybe after I get it down pat it'll be easier. You better have your popper skills sharpened for the hydrilla edges at Mattawoman.

Maryland's Who's who!
Maiden voyage on my new rig, I originally wanted to break in the engine on the Potomac, but it took me about 2 hours to find boat numbers, those 3" stickers after driving to two different Home Depot and a Lowe's. But when I was ready to go, it was already 1:30PM so I decided to just hit Little Seneca Lake and mess around with the electronics. She's fast, about 3.6mph on the graph and I could hit spots on the lake which I never did before in a timely manner. Got to the shallow end near the houses and I got 3 on laydowns that extended into 5-8 feet of water. Probably could have gotten a couple more, but my fishing muscles are out of shape and I was tired, so I lit up a stogie and trolled half speed back to the ramp and and enjoyed the scenery. Nice, I'm jelly. Water temp at Little Seneca was 63 and I wanted to throw some top water, but I didn't bring any.

Manual shallow water anchors
I use a SuperStick to push pole and it works great. There’s an anchor pin option but I’ve never used it. Not a cheap option but good quality stuff.
