  1. Tacklewarehouse 15% off usually.
  2. Ah I see. Well, another option is, if she doesn't like it and you don't have a flipping rod, you could probably use that 7'3H as one. I can't specifically opine on the Veritas, but that's what I did with a Tatula 7'4H that was a little too stout for what I wanted to throw.
  3. So what's her opinion of the rod? Is it too stout for her? Does it not throw the lures you want to throw well? If the power is too high for her, and you just got it recently (Dicks?), you have at least 30 days to exchange it.
  4. The cast control knob is part J00-4702, you can call Daiwa to buy the part, or go here: https://www.mikesreelrepair.com/j00-4702-cast-control-cap/ Great reel with a lifetime warranty (even for a rebranded Cabela's item) for $50.
  5. Wonder if that means Cabela's will phase out their brand name fishing gear and lifetime warranty.
  6. I don't think their Social Media department will have an answer for you. I PM'd the user a question about their Demon Pro rod, here was the response.
  7. Did you check the Hudd hook? Maybe it's just slightly dull...how about the barb? When I frog fish, I go for a double hook set just to make sure, I reel down very quickly and snap the rod straight up.
  8. The big vendors have large in-house tax compliance teams to handle that, as well as the resources to implement advanced SUT compliance software, such as Vertex (which is not cheap) to manage all the thousands of different tax jurisdictions and rates which they integrate directly on the front end of the site to the back end financials, such as Oracle, or SAP, also very very expensive. Then they also have the manpower to file all those SUT returns, monthly, quarterly, and annually. I was the Director of Tax for a publicly traded software company, we had just over 900 compliance forms to file every year between 20-25 people. It's a lot of manpower to be compliant in the 48 continuous states. Small and medium size shops are going to have to deal with the process of figuring out solutions, and that may mean upgrading their GL system to something more robust, such as Sage, and that will also be costly. This will get messy, Congress won't act because state reps and senators will be looking out for their own state's best interests, i.e. sales tax revenue.
  9. This is the problem, sales tax laws vary in so many different jurisdictions. There may be a $100 de minimis exemption in Little Rock, or there may be a $5,000 exemption in Austin. Those exceptions may be for all types of sales of tangible products, or it may just apply to certain types of products, and maybe even services. There is no catchall rule that will cover all sales transactions, and small shops will not be even close to 100% compliant, because they simply don't have the resources to, unless they pay for outside third party compliance which is not cheap and will cut into already thin margins. They should not have broke what what didn't need a fix. Brick and Mortar stores finally caught up to internet vendors by MATCHING their prices, which was easy enough to do in the first place, they were just stubborn to do it.
  10. It will be very interesting to see who wins this tug of war in practice. On the one hand, small mom and pop shop internet retailers, and the other, big brick and mortar stores or internet retailers that have the resources to comply.
  11. Here are some thoughts: * It's not Uncle Sam's fight, it's the states that are trying to charge internet product sales from out of state sellers. Uncle Sam also does not get any share of property and sales taxes, these are purely levied by your state and local authorities. Brick & Mortar stores are also fighting for this because they feel internet retailers have an unfair advantage by not having to charge sales tax (where they do not have a physical presence). * If John Doe Internet Co bought a lure for resale, they don't pay sales tax on it. They file a sales tax exemption form and provide it to the wholesaler or distributor. John Doe Internet Co selles the lure to the end user (you and me) and THEN charge sales tax on the retail sale which is then remitted to the state or local agency. * The burden of sales and use tax compliance is complicated, in some states there are 2-3 layers of sales tax (state, city, county). Small internet retailers who have to file a monthly sales tax form for lots of different jurisdictions for minimal internet sales are going to get crushed by the compliance.
  12. I bought a reel from one of the participating sellers yesterday and it worked. Did you try to contact Ebay customer service? ALF is listed as one of the participating storefronts, and when I look up one of their rods, the 15% off is advertised with it.
  13. I would, do you have an empty reel sitting around? If so just spool it on that one, then put it back in your big surf reel.
  14. Thank you, when I hold mine and shake, it's absolutely silent. I'll request an exchange.
  15. Sorry - meant got it from TW, the description on the package says "Rattling Cover Pop". I'm just trying to figure out if I got a defective lure, or it's actually suppose to be silent, but only rattling from the hooks hitting the body.
  16. So I just got this from TW, the description says "Rattling Cover Pop"....but when I hold it in my hand and shake it, it's totally silent. Is the rattling from the hooks banging against the body? Is it supposed to have internal beads?
  17. Always wait for that 10-20% off coupon!
  18. It's Ebay coupon code time again: 15% off with code "PLAYFUL15" Some fishing vendors are participating (American Legacy, Alpha2Omega); Onetime use only. Daiwa CT-Type R for $93, Fuego CT for $57.
  19. All good tips, use some cheap thick mono until you get the hang of it, so that if you do get a bad birds nest, it's cheap to respool. I probably went through 2-3 respools when I first started throwing a BC last year, and haven't backlashed at all since.
  20. Are you sure it only shows what you pass over? I thought it send out a signal in kind of a 360 cone, and the deeper the water, the farther down signal goes and thus, the wider the cone.
  21. Yes, that will always be the case because it's a casting vs spinning set up. You should be fine with a MH/F spinning set up for your weightless stuff though, lots of good options for under $100.
  22. I have the Powell Max3D 714 MHEF spinning rod, and I've thrown weightless and wacky senkos on it in heavy cover. It has plenty of power and can throw those easily. I've also thrown weightless senkos on a Daiwa Tatula 6'10 MH/F casting rod, but they go farther on the spinning rod.
  23. Tackle warehouse too. http://www.tacklewarehouse.com/Shimano_Curado_150_DC_Casting_Reel/descpage-CRDC.html I'm going to pre-order one during the July 4th sale.
  24. Oh now you'll be hooked on topwater. I always work a popper back to the bank on the first several casts to see if they're active, or hesitant. A lot of times, like what you experienced, they'll smash it just 5-6 feet away from the bank and then you'll know what kind of mood they are in. Also, not all poppers are the same, some have loud rattles, some just a single bead. Some have higher pitches than others. I shake them in my hand and organize them by color, and loudness and try to remember the pitch. My understanding of sound is that, lower frequency rattles should travel farther in water, but I'm no expert. I think about water depth, structure, and color of the hatch when picking a popper. Keep at it, nothing beats topwater!
