Spinning Reel Suggestions...
Okay...back to the 2500. This is a bass reel and can be used for striper and hybrid if you expect to catch small fish. For striper over 12 lbs or so, you need something heavier. The Stradic 4000 is fine for a spinning reel, but I fish a baitcaster, CTE200GT. Most guys prefer 300 series baitcasters for striper fishing. So, I suggest buying the Symetre at your pricing point or the Stradic 2500FI for more money. Use this reel for bass fishing and your Penn when you are targeting striper. 8-)

Spinning Reel Suggestions...
I deleted my post because I did not read yours carefully enough. I missed your main criteria, saltwater. I agree with SirSnookalot that the 2500 series is too small for saltwater applications. We use the Stradic 4000 for inland stripers on the Tennessee River. 8-)

Revo stx=Quality!
First of all, your Quantum doesn't "perform well". None of the problems you have described are acceptable. Secondly, you can compare my brand new Shimanos to those that are ten years old and the comparison will be both "close" and fair. I have the STX on a dedicated jig rod. It is strong, smooth, silent and reliant, but the magnetic brakes are finicky and require adjustment every time out. I would never buy another.

You can check current conditions and projections on the TVA website and pull up specific reservoirs: http://lakeinfo.tva.gov/htbin/lakeinfo?site=KYH&DataType=All&submit=View+info 8-)

Slug-go soft Jerkbait
RW - Can you explain this in a little more detail? I don't really understand what you mean, but I'd like to. Twitch the Slug-Go without moving it forward. Work it where you can see it first and you'll know what I mean.

Interesting figures
Anyone fishing for "line" records should be using Ande. This line has been used to set more records than all others combined. Ande is IGFA certified. 8-)

Got a question.
First up, the "Adds By Google" are not direct sponsors. Space is purchased by Google. Very few topics are "Off Limits" and they are listed in FAQs. Please take the time to read FAQs, it will only take a minute. Regarding "redundancy": To some extent that's true. An example would be the Senko. We don't feel there is anything left that hasn't been written. Glenn has listed an entire page of links on every aspect of fishing this bait. Other topics are listed in FAQs for a variety of reasons, but most result in bashing verses defending and lead to arguments that are disrespectful. Some people probably have had some success with the Kick-Tail Minnow while others think it's a scam. We're not going to re-hash those same old arguments over and over again. -Kent a.k.a. roadwarrior Global Moderator

Ky lake locals help
Some of our guys caught lots of bass fishing off the rocks at KenLake Lodge. I'm sure you can catch a few. The rig of choice was a Shak-e2 jig head and a variety of trailers. I would fish a Rage Tail Lobster (blue). Good luck! 8-)

dobyns, powell, or kistler?
Thanks Tom! Last time I was at Lake Fork was the "wrong week". I'm looking forward to the next trip on the "right day" and fishing with you! I really enjoy your fishing reports, keep 'em coming! Regarding my Dobyns: Thank you for clarifying the guide issue. I have not fished the rod long enough to form a "real opinion", but getting comfortable with a split grip is the biggest issue. We'll see. 8-)

what action and power?
As Chris W implied, it's not the target fish, it's the technique. Select exactly the same gear you use for green fish based on the lures you throw. I fish live bait on a G. Loomis PR844S; soft plastics on a St. Croix ES70MF; and jerkbaits on an Avid AVC66MF. 8-)

Anybody Know How To Build an Ark?
6" last weekend and 4" on the way tomorrow. All the reservoirs on the Tennessee River are "spilling". The White River system attained record levels last year, but may be challenged again! Enough already! :-X

Braid for Spinning Gear
Uncle! Geez...I didn't even have to (re)visit your website for the evidence. I fished braid on the river years ago and quit mainly because it was very dangerous. However, I'm going to spool up one baitaster and one spinning rig. So, (1) what exactly do you recommend (brand name and size); and (2) do you always use a leader or are there some things (big swimbaits) that you tie direct? Also, how do you feel about clips as opposed to direct tie? BTW, J Francho: Aren't your trout and steelhead line shy? 8-)

Jighead's Most Productive Baits
You should have kept tourney fishing, I bet you would have been very successful with the sponsors. You can plug them all in just three sentences. How are those Triton livewells working? ;D I love Keitech Little Spiders or Yamamoto 4" Twin Tail Hula's around docks on jigheads with weed guards. NetBaits and GYCB are NOT sponsors.

KY Lake conditions?
We're expecting 2-4" of rain tomorrow on top of 4-6" last weekend. All the dams on the Tennessee River are "spilling until further notice". The water is high everywhere and will continue to be for the foreseeable future. 8-)
