  1. I think there are two general clasees of lures: fast moving and slow or not moving! When fish are on an active baitfish hunt, hard baits are generally most effective. The times when fish are feeding more slowly or off the bottom, soft baits and jigs come into play. The original tube was the Gitzit. This was designed as a "do nothing" bait. Cast and let it settle to the bottom and drift, sit, smoke and drink beer. It is a lure that sometimes requires patience, but is one of the most effective baits ever invented. 8-)
  2. Welcome aboard! I have some success with chartreuse and painted Colorado blades. Otherwise, white Terminator with double silver willow blades is pretty standard. 8-)
  3. Well, I'm serious, but I just don't know when I can put it together. It's a Fantasy Trip for me and something I will have to do! p.s. I want to fish Stick Marsh/ Farm 13 with George Welcome, too! 8-)
  4. Those are day totals, not individual fish. :
  5. Welcome aboard! I'm sure you will get some response once a few guys see your post. Good luck! 8-)
  6. Cast with your forearm(s) only! Use the rod length to create leverage. Your cast will be smooth, as long as you like and requires much less effort, reducing fatigue. "Extra" effort is not required. 8-)
  7. Generally the bite is a tick-tick. Unlike fishing a jig, bass tend to hold on to a soft plastic a little longer. When you feel a bite, lower your rod tip while reeling down quickly. Set the hook with a "snap set" and maintain tension on the line as you bring in the fish. 8-)
  8. "Did you see what two fish Jason Quinn brought to the weigh-in too? Two bass for a total of 1lb11oz ...." Geez...
  9. B double E double R UN Cold, muddy water is a non-starter for me. Been there, done that.
  10. I visited the local BPS (Memphis) and came away empty handed. They did not have one thing I was looking for on sale! That made me mad, so I didn't buy anything. >
  11. Spinning tackle: #6 Yo-Zuri Hybrid Ultra Soft Baitcasting gear: #12 Ultra Soft 8-)
  12. ;D ;D WOO-HOO! ;D ;D Congratulations on the PB and GREAT pic, too! 8-)
  13. The smallmouth in the Tennessee River are too big to lift with one arm. We always net them unless they are "tournament" fish. 8-)
  14. Tennessee bass like tobacco, beer, whisky and dancing girls, but not necessarily in that order! : 8-)
  15. It's great to get out! I think your pictures are fine. 8-)
  16. I have caught some nice smallmouth drifting the hump in front of Diamond Island and working the channel side about half way down. If you didn't fish for whities on the backside, you passed the sweetest hole on the river! Surprisingly, you sometimes have to move around before finding exactly the right spot, but once you do, anchor down and you will catch a white bass or at least get bitten on every cast! 8-)
  17. The advice is for anyone that's struggling. 8-)
  18. I have the CTE200GT with the handle on the "correct side"! : 8-)
  19. ;D ;D Congratulations! ;D ;D 8-)
  20. Matt 5.0's Revo & Carrot looks like the "Dream Team". That's my favorite, but I don't own one. : Maybe Tin will get that combination and let me borrow it next winter. 8-)
  21. Like KU_Bassmaster, my most important consideration is managability. This is the aspect that makes fishing more or much less enjoyable. All other considerations involve compromise and cost. Features I consider are overall strength and shock absorption; diameter relative to pound test rating. Other features include resistance to abrasion, stealth, longevity, knot requirements and cost. After experimenting with many lines over the years, I am currently fishing Yo-Zuri Hybrid and Hybrid Ultra Soft. However, I will continue to test other lines as they are introduced. One line of particular note is Sunline Defier, which meets all of my criteria except cost. I believe the Sunline Fluorocarbons may also be exceptional, but again the price reflects this and makes it prohibitative for many. 8-)
  22. I cast with two hands using both spinning and baitcasting equipment. In addition to distance and accuracy, a two handed casting technique is less fatiguing over the course of a day on the water. 8-)
