  1. Okay, Using a Shimano Calais 200 on a Lamiglas SR705R (glass rod) and #12 Yo-Zuri Hybrid Ultra Soft I have cast a Lucky Craft LV Max-500 (3/4 oz) just under 110 yards with a VERY strong wind. With the same equipment on the same day, I cast a 7" Senko approximately 85 yards. Using a Shimano Stella 2500FB matched to a St. Croix Legend Elite ES70MF and #6 Yo-Zuri Hybrid Ultra Soft, a "normal" cast for me, fishing a 6" Senko or Fat Ika from the bank, ranges between 30 and 50 yards. With a strong wind I occasionally cast more than 75 yards with this set-up. 8-)
  2. Well...except the handle is on the wrong side! :
  3. When you have some advice, we're all listening... 8-)
  4. Raul's point was that any baitcaster can launch medium to heavy lures, lighter baits are more challenging. My reels probably vary a lot with regard to "absolute capability", but from a practical standpoint they are about the same. There is rarely (never) a need for a cast over 50 yards if you are actually "fishing". 8-)
  5. No. The ouside adjusment (cast control cap) is on the same side as the handle. The other side opens up.

  8. You just have to play with it, but you will notice greater distance with fewer brakes. Someone will have to correct my terminology, but I have two breaking systems on my reels. For me it varies among the models. The outside adjustment on Shimanos affects the smoothness of the retrieve. I have that system almost turned off; on my round reels (CTE200GT) they are completely off. So, my main adjustment for eliminating backlash are the internal pins. On three reels (Calais, Metanium and Chronarch) I only have two brakes on. On my round reels I have four on. 8-)
  9. If you can wait until March 23, DON'T buy any! Their website had a $30 minimum so I had to order too many. (Plus the shipping charge is outragous). I can spare at least 50 of Catt's camo recommendation. :
  10. I have the AC66MF. Although it's rated Fast Action, the tip is soft. I consider this a perfect "all-around" rod for every class of treble hook lures. I also like it for spinnerbaits and buzzbaits. This is a very versatile rod, but I do NOT recommend it for soft plastics or jigs. 8-)

  12. Call them, they don't usually advertise in-store specials or close-outs. I bought some at the local Memphis store. BTW: All sizes were on sale for the same price! I bought two silver, one gold, all 1/2 oz. 8-)
  13. Not only "positive", but EXCELLENT! 8-)
  14. BPS has the Johnson Silver Minnow on close-out sale for $0.99. 8-)
  15. Change your plans and come fish with the rest of us! :
  16. There are a few advantages to both lengths. For example, a longer rod casts a little further; a shorter rod is easier to use for some techniques (jerkbaits) or situations (over-hanging trees if you are fishing from the bank). However, for the most part, it's just personal preference. 8-)

Hmm... I thought the whole celebration was just for YOUR BIRTHDAY! Happy Birthday, muddy man! 8-)
  18. Welcome aboard! 8-)
  19. As needed. For the most part, Yo-Zuri Hybrid and Hybrid Ultra Soft do not wear our or get old. I like to have 80 -100 yards of line available BEFORE feeling a knot. When I "change line" it's usually just "adding" the line I like to have available. Backing lasts forever. 8-)
  20. No problemo! I think this is the right section to get some response from the broader membership. I hope you can get people involved, I think you have come up with a GREAT idea. Do you want to specify what type of lures you are most interested in or let the members just decide what they want to send? Good luck! 8-)
  21. In relatively open water, an inserted jig head is the traditional rig. However, I prefer either an inserted tube weight rigged with a 4/0 EWG Offset worm hook, weedless or a traditional T-rig, unpegged and with a bead, weedless. With these rigs the action is SIGNIFICANTLY different. With a jig head or inserted weight, the tube will swirl as it sinks. When bass are aggressive, this is generally the best action. Most of the time I fish the tube with a variation of the "dead stick" presentation. This involves long pauses and subtle movement (like a crawdad moving over a rock). This is my best technique in deep water during the summer. 8-)
  22. Catt, Thanks! Yesterday I ordered the Salty Ring Worms and ask on another thread, EXACTLY how do YOU rig 'em and fish 'em. Now I have the answer! Thanks again! 8-)
  23. Happy birthday to you Happy birthday to you Happy birthday dear Dominick Happy birthday to you! ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D 8-)
