  1. UPDATE Well, another Patriots fan is taking Gisele's place, so I have one (1) opening left.
  2. Really? You might be surprized by all the guys that hire guides and still use live bait. I even recall some guy out in California that claims to have caught over 80 DD largemouth bass who says catchin' em on artificials is EASIER!
  3. LOOKING FOR TWO ROOMATES Unfortunately, Jessica Simpson and Gisele Bundchens have cancelled out on me. So, I have a cabin at Guntersville reserved Sunday through Thursday night (arrive 3/23, depart 3/28). Five nights split three ways = $235 each, which includes tax! I won't smoke in the house, but I do smoke, drink, fart and snore. I like to go to bed early and don't care what you do. Send me a PM if you want to share lodging, but at this point I'm really interested in "For Sure" not "Maybe". We will not necessarily be fishing together. I am not bringing a boat and with the exception of part of one day, I have made no arrangements. I plan to fish with guys based on the draw. -Kent a.k.a. roadwarrior
  4. My lord! Where's the Possee? This Forum is being overrun with infidels! Just kidding... The Stradic is a very nice reel. If properly maintained, a decade from now it will perform exactly as it does the first day out of the box. Shimano's motto: Smooth, strong, silent and reliant. 8-)
  5. First off, I am a St. Croix fan. Some guys like the Triumphs, some don't. The biggest issue has been quality control. If you decide to buy one, inspect it closely.

Welcome aboard! 8-) p.s. You may not of have seen this "Notice", it's in the upper portion of the "Bass Clubs" section. Please take a peek: https://www.bassresource.com/bass_fishing_forums/YaBB.pl?num=1108832977
  7. That's part of it, but another aspect is that the properties were simply overpriced to begin with. Much of the buying was "speculation": Leveraged borrowing with little or nothing down, minimal payments and the expectation of doubling your money in a few years. When prices fall and the maket is saturated, there is no "take-out".
  8. In-Fisherman has been running several articles on fishing spoons. I think I'm going to try to develope some skill with this lure class. In the past I have had some luck fishing for trout, but never really persued this technique for bass. If you consider yourseld skilled in this area, please start a new thread on the subject. There are probably a few other members that would find this interesting, too. 8-)
  9. I don't know anything about the rod, but the new Stradic 2500FI has incorporated many of the features that were previously only available on the Stella. I think the 2500 series is the ideal size for bass fishing. 8-)
  10. I fish big shiners on a split shot for smallmouth on the Tennessee River most of the time. "I like fishing, but I like catching better!" 8-)
  11. Well, I have had the privilege of meeting many BR members and fishing with several. I hope to meet and fish with many more in the future. For those heading to Alabama in March, I plan to participate in the "non-boat drawing" at least two of the four days. I hope I get to fish with YOU! 8-)
  12. The line is plenty strong enough, I just prefer spinning tackle because of what I consider a significantly superior drag verses baitcasting gear. I realize a lot of guys just don't like spinning gear, but I think it is a better tool for finesse fishing.
  13. The reel will handle Ultra Soft #6, but I don't fish light line on baitcasters.
  14. Nope. : Most of my fishing is below Pickwick Dam. Every type of fish native or introduced to the Mid South is found in this section of the Tennessee River. Right now is Primetime for sauger and smallmouth, the white bass spawn is just around the corner. During the spring, crappie get hot; striper and catfish come on strong, too. Largemouth are an "occasional" fish, Kentucky bass are a pest. Drum are a nusiance, but HUGE size is common. This is also the case with buffalo. Plenty of fish are caught on artificials, but the the primary bait is shiners this time of year, later gizzard shad, yellowtail and skipjack. The Tennessee River and associated reserviors are very prolific, but the river sections immediately below Wilson Dam and Pickwick Dam stand out as the premier smallmouth trophy fisheries in the nation. 8-)
  15. Welcome aboard! Spend some time going through "Fishing Articles" at the top of the page. We have an extensive library. Then, browse back through the various sections, we recently had a thread on taking kids fishing that I think would help: https://www.bassresource.com/bass_fishing_forums/YaBB.pl?num=1200379528 There are several other recent threads that you will find particularly helpful. Good luck! 8-)
  16. I'm in the "just one" camp. However, a dozen or two 5 lb smallmouth on Lake Erie would turn my head around! 8-)
  17. Welcome aboard! 8-)
  18. Great advice and honest, straightforward opinions. David adds a special expertise to our Forum that we all greatly appreciate. When you consider reel repair or maintenance, I would HIGHLY recommend sending your equipment to David Green, THE Reel Mechanic. 8-)
  19. Super Bowl XXIV was tough for Bronco fans. We knew going into the game that our chances were slim, but no one was expecting the Joe Montana/ Jerry Rice Spectacular! Those boys ran a crossing pattern that Denver could not cover which lead to a whooping like no one had ever seen. I don't think any team in NFL history could have beaten the 49ers on that Sunday.
  20. It's probably in YOUR best interest to sell the BassTrix on e-bay. They will sell quickly for a BIG price!
  21. Super Bowl XXII Unbelievable. Doug Williams had the biggest day of his football career.
  22. Description of the Shimano Spring Scale: A large, screw-in plug in the bottom portion of the scale allows for precise calibration with free weights. Once set, the scale does not loosen or change. I use a plastic grocery bag starting with 5 lbs, then 10, 15 and 20. I only check it occasionally and have never had to readjust the scale. The scale has a rubber "keeper" that allows you to weigh the fish, remove the fish and read the scale. Because mine is 50 lbs, exact pounds can be measured but not exact ounces.
  23. Start with just a few items and put them up for sale in the BassResource.com "Flea Market". For the most part, sales have gone smoothly, but there are always exceptions. Good luck!
