  1. Welcome aboard! I look forward to meeting you and your dad. I have Troy Jens reserved for BassResource.com 3/26, 3/27 & 3/28. ghoti & wife and me are fishing with Troy Monday; Glenn & Keri and me Tuesday. That leaves Wednesday, Thursday and Friday currently open. Give Troy a call if you are interested: http://www.anglingalabama.com/ 8-)
  2. No. In small ponds the water mixes. To form a thermocline, the cooler and warmer water separates. Generally, it requires deep structure or pockets where colder water settles. Rivers never have thermoclines, but deep reserviors in the middle and northern parts of the country almost always experience this phenomenon.
  3. C'mon guys! It's February 4, 2008 and we're all a little antsy. Before you post a response, take a short walk and come back...Don't be MAD, be smart. If you disagree, that's fine. This is what a Forum is about, but the bottom line is we're friends or something close. Be nice or at least civil, you're not going to change the world with your next post and tomorrow you don't want to think "What an *** I was!" Part of the fun is the chatter, but let's be a little more gentle and respectful of each other. A little courtesy goes a long ways. -Kent a.k.a. roadwarrior 8-)
  4. Randall, I just read the article which I found fascinating. Thank you. However, I remain skeptical. I am in no way disputing your observation that big bass CAN and SOMETIMES will eat a big shad, I simply wonder if the rest of the professional community can all be wrong.
  5. No, no...that's not what I meant. Yesterday's game was exciting for me BECAUSE two great teams fought hard even though I didn't favor one. When it's MY team, I just want to win! 8-)
  6. Nope, not me. The largemouth was probably three or four pounds and the buffaloes I'd guess at seven and nine. The buffalo fight just like a smallmouth except the lack of jumping, but bottom line: it's just disappointing to me.
  7. You're getting some good advice here. Why not wait a year or two and get some better gear later? Fish what you have and save some money, it's worth it to put this off for awhile.
  8. Agreed. However, if you got a dog in the fight, you can enjoy a GREAT game even when the competition isn't. I bet the Red Sox fans didn't spend much time complaining about playing my Rockies.
  9. Expand on the topic. This is my 2008 focus lure or technique. I have fished spoons for trout and in salt water, but never for bass. 8-)
  10. Man, I like the whole experience. I started getting stoked on Wednesday, but didn't really hit stride until Friday afternoon. I could hardly sleep Saturday night, got up around 4:30 Sunday morning, anticipating 9:00 pre-game. Started cookin' around 10:00 and found my groove about 3:00. By 5:00 CST I was "Ready For Some Football!" I guess I care...I REALLY care. ;D ;D ;D 8-)
  11. Shimano has incorporated many of the features that were previously found only in the Stella. Direct Drive is especially interesting. This reel was awarded the ICAST 2007 "Best In Class" award: http://fish.shimano.com/catalog/fish/products/group_detail.jsp?FOLDER%3C%3Efolder_id=2534374302053096&ASSORTMENT%3C%3East_id=1408474395181270&bmUID=1202157263095 8-)
  12. WOW! Nice fish, GREAT pic! 8-)
  13. Mostly they are used to find structure and determine depth. Depending on the sophistication of your equipment and your level of skill using the gear, "fishfinders' can also locate baitfish and sometimes, gamefish. 8-)
  14. Now that we found 'em, would you share how you rig 'em, fish 'em? ;D
  15. I have two Shimano CTE200GT (5.0:1): http://fish.shimano.com/catalog/fish/products/group_detail.jsp?FOLDER%3C%3Efolder_id=2534374302036618&ASSORTMENT%3C%3East_id=1408474395181270&bmUID=1202152185736 I initially bought this reel exclusively for striper fishing: relatively small, but strong as an ox! In addition to strength, it is smooth, perfectly balanced and can cast medium and heavy weights a country mile. This is a reel that I expect to own forever. I have one CTE200GT matched up with a G. Loomis GLX MBR844C. This is my jig rod. The other reel is saddled to a Lamiglas SR705R. This rig is for big treble hook lures and especially, deep divers. I would rate this reel a dead solid 10. 8-)
  16. I fish the original Slug-Go only. The 4" is most effective for me. I fish them with what might be described as a "stationary twitch". My objective is to make the bait act like a feeding minnow. 8-)
  17. Welcome aboard! I think the Avids on sale are the best deal going. I HIGHLY recommend them to everyone considering a rod in the $140-$170 pricing range. These rods were a great value at full-bore retail; on sale they are a steal! 8-)
  18. Unfortunately, those are probably gizzard shad and over time will take over the pond/ small lake. In larger reserviors this is the main reason stripers have been introduced. Nothing but a striper will eat a gizzard shad that big.
  19. Nice brown! 8-)
  20. Well, during the pregame show Willie and Sara Evans performed and there were several others along the way. So, maybe not everyone got exactly who they wanted for half-time, but there was entertainment for everyone throughout the day. 8-)
  21. Hey Glenn! Just talked with our guide for Tuesday, 3/25, and we are all set: http://www.anglingalabama.com/ 8-)
  22. ******** GUIDE SERVICE ********* I just spoke with my guide, Troy Jens. He is available Wednesday, Thursday and Friday (3/26, 3/27 & 3/28). ghoti has him booked Monday and I'm fishing with him Tuesday. So, if you are intersted in a guide, here is his website: http://www.anglingalabama.com/ 8-)
