Jigs vs cranks
Ya never know. Generally, I think more active fish are prone to strike "moving" lures, but if you put anything in their face, you have a fair chance of getting bit. I fish jigs and soft plastics during the day, hard baits (including cranks) in low light. 8-)

Do small shallow bodies of water have a thermocline?
** MODERATOR NOTE ** Handy, I hope you found some helpful information in this thread, but it drifted off track and required a little surgery. help a rookie with line choice
Welcome aboard! Although I don't fish braid, if that's what you like why not fish it on your spinning tackle, too? For something just a bit lighter, maybe 20/6. Another suggestion, quite the opposite of your approach, would be stealthier line for finesse presentations on your spinning tackle. I fish all sodt plastics on spinning gear and use Yo-Zuri Hybrid Ultra Soft #6 (.010" diameter, 11.9 lb test). I think you will catch more fish on lighter, less visible line for this type of fishing. 8-)

Nope. Mostly it's just for fun! If along the way there is also some useful information, educational or instructive posts and threads, then so much the better. I suggest everyone just lighten up a bit and chill. If you don't like a post or thread, move on. There is no obligation to read or respond on this board. BTW, There is PLENTY of room for more serious fishermen, too. Participate in the fun and games if you like, but many of our most respected members take a decidedly different approach. Funny or stern is not the same as good and bad. 8-)

Barely Dodged A Bullet
The "defining intersection" in my little suburb is Poplar & Germantown Road. The largest, strongest, most intense cell in the system passed over this spot at 5:56 with 112 mph winds and moving at 75mph. This "spot" is approximately 1.5 miles from my house.

spring baits
Everything works in the spring. Fish what you like and/or try to develope your skills with a new technique. Obviously, certain lures will be more productive under various conditions, but the bass are generally aggressive and will strike just about anything. As a specific suggestion, in low light fish "moving" lures. Through the middle of the day, finesse presentations (soft plastics & jigs) may be more productive. Although I'm the kinda guy that sticks with a bait that I think should work, in the spring you should probably change up more frequently to find what's really hot. 8-)

Barely Dodged A Bullet
My family spent a good part of yesterday evening in my fishing room. We don't have basements in most homes in this part of the country, but we sure need them! Tornado Watches started around 4:00, Warnings around 5:00. At 5:30 the National Weather Service declared a Tornado Emergency, a term that has never been used: http://www.foxnews.com/story/0,2933,328745,00.html
