Knots And when to use them
No. It's the knot I have been using most often for a decade or more, and I never have a rod spooled with 20 lb test line! 8-)

My Favorite Super Bowl or The "Best Ever"
Mano mano. The perfect pass to exactly the right guy, exactly where the Titans wanted to attack the goal line. Offensive receiver vs. defensive back. Man-to-man, head-to-head. Who wants it more? The most exciting finish of any Super Bowl and perhaps the second greatest play of all time, ranking just behind The Emmaculate Reception! 8-)

Super Bowl XXXII, Green Bay Packers vs. Denver Broncos: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Super_Bowl_XXXII I think this Sunday's game has the same potential for excitment and drama. 8-)

Crappy Scales
Shimano scales: http://www.fishermansheadquarters.com/equip_scale_shimano.htm I have the 50 lb version because I also fish for striper. I would recommend the 20 lb scale for bass fishing, it's easier to read and broken down into more usable increments.

Crappy Scales
There are plenty of good scales out there, many IGFA certifiable. I have a Shimano spring scale that can be PERFECTLY calibrated for general use. BPS has a similar scale, in-house brand. If you want the best spring scale (IGFA certifiable) it's the Boga Grip: http://www.boga-grip.com/ 8-)

New to fishing...Period!
Welcome aboard! Number one, explore some different spots. Trasnsition, current breaks, pools, ridges and ledges are all prime locations. The basic lures I would suggest are single tail grubs, Hula Grubs, 3 1/2" tubes and Fat Ika. Good luck. 8-)

Best and worst TV Shows...
No other show comes close to the hands-on informational content of this show. Al Linder or the Linder brothers, are my favorite fishermen of all time. Next on my list would be Bill Dance. I find his show entertaining and enjoy his wit and charm. I have met Bill on numerous occasions and he seems as genuine in person as he appears on his show. 8-)

Which Shimano Curado 200/201D???
The slower reels are really technique specific: crankbaits. For an "all-around" reel I think you will be much happier with the 7:1. 8-)

Great post! Question: Did you notice if any of the guys fished "traditional" baits? I'm referring to jig & pig, worms, Senkos, etc., rather than all swimbaits. 8-)

PLEEEASE HELP....Can I fish today from the shore?
No. I was out yesterday and have been out several times during this cold snap. I haven't had a bite fishing ponds that are generally VERY productive. I think it's time to pause and simply wait for a little warmer weather and better conditions.

US Reels
Randall: Great fish! Several years ago I bought the original US Reel as part of a light tackle package sponsored by Ray Scott. As I recall, at that time the reels were manufactured in St. Louis. Initially the reel sold for about $120, the same price as the Shimano Stradic 2500FH. So, it seems fair to compare these reels at the same pricing point. The US Reel was rough and slightly unbalanced. The reel was ugly and the spool WAY too deep for something touted as a "light line" specialty product. This reel, I'm told, was recalled but I was never notified. I gave the rig to my dad and he still fishes it, but it is NOT something I would recommend. If the Stradic is a 10, the US Reel was a 3.
