  1. Just looking for everyone's thoughts. My observation has been that it doesn't really make any difference. What say you?
  2. I'd bet dollars to donuts he is using a black & blue Rage Tail Craw for the trailer, too!
  3. That's a great day!
  4. A cold front may cause the bite to lock down, but a night or two of moderately low temperatures will have little if any impact on the water temperature except in the shallowest parts of the pond.
  5. Well, this is just my theory based on observations over the past three years on the Tennessee River, specifically Pickwick. During this three year period more double digit bass have been reported than in the entire history of the reservoir. The vast majority have been caught using The Rig. It is my hypothesis that these fish were "uncatchable" and therefore had NEVER been caught. The Alabama Rig triggers a response in bass that they cannot ignore: a ball of bait in their face! Perhaps a better example was Dottie. The fish was caught or snagged several times, but ONLY on bed during the spawn. For the most part, she was "uncatchable". We don't have a Dottie here in the Mid South, but we have a lot of DD bass hidden in the bushes, so to speak.
  6. Well, I don't think you need to reinvent the wheel. There is tons of helpful information from experienced fishermen here at BassResource.com. "any bait/lure" is NOT the best choice year around. As a specific example, The Rig has proven to be seasonal and not particularily productive in the summer. Spring is the easiest time to catch bass on a variety of lures, but some are FAR MORE PRODUCTIVE than others.
  7. Off topic posts have been removed. If you want to talk saltwater please post in "Other Species". -Kent
  8. I use KVD Line & Lure Conditioner religiously!
  9. I have three Avids and two Legend Elite. I owned the Champion 683C and liked it just fine, but sold it last winter. At any rate, you will probably like the rods from any of these three companies, but I am recommending the St. Croix.
  10. Carl came down to Speedy's lake house for dinner and an overnight stay. He brought us several to try and a couple to keep. Unfortunately, although he owned the company he relied on another rod builder to design and manufacture the rods. I (we) asked some basic questions about the blanks, reel seats, guides and power/ action ratings. He was the "marketing guy" and didn't know any of the answers to these simple questions. The rods were heavy and wimpy, not a good combination. What we were targeting was fishing single hook presentations, both tubes and live bait. The rods were better suited for "moving" lures. I think Speedy may have kept one, I did not.
  11. Booyah Pad Crasher and Rage Tail Toad
  12. I bought my first Stradic 15 years ago or so. I eventually gave it to a friend who is still fishing with the reel. I had it serviced once or twice, but I doubt my friend has. Although this is my oldest still in service, I have given away a couple of Symetre and another Stradic that are nearly as old. Every Shimano I have ever owned is still in use.
  13. Carl sold his interest. I do not know who owns the company now.
  14. We may have an opportunity to fish some prototypes. This could be The Year Of The Bug!
  15. A couple of years ago about 90% of the group's total catch was on Rage Baby Craws and Red Eye Shad. Another year on Pickwick I caught 78 bass in one day on a Sworming Hornet/ LFT Live Magic Shad. The Senko is a consistant producer and for one guy the Bandit 200 & 300. Last year's "kick butt" was the Rage Tail Menace and Siebert Outdoors Cosmic Spinnerbit. For me it was ShakE2 with a GYCB Kut Tail. Right now tournaments are being won with the DT6, Red Eye Shad, jerkbaits and The Rig.
  16. Gosh! I am so surprised you guys aren't alll using Bobby's StrikeBack and Mike's Cosmic.
  17. VERY similar. I use a slight variation. By wrapping the line up from the eye I finish through the top loop without going on the ouside of the wraps. Try this, but make sure you finish going through the top loop in the same direction as the mainline. For example, if the mainline is on the outside, bring your tag inside-out so that when you tighten the knot both mainline and tagline are on the same side of the loop. In effect, this knot is a noose.
  18. Well, I'm sure you can catch a bucket load of bream right now and maybe that's all you need. Bass fishing is going to take a little more commitment than 45 minutes and entertaining a 7 year old. The quickest way to "get on board" would be to hire a guide for a day. When you talk with him on the phone you need to be clear on what you are looking for, not every guide is a teacher. For example, I would like him to show me the types of structure and cover I should be fishing. Then, to keep it simple, I would want to just work with a couple of "moving' lures and a couple of bottom contact. After catching a few bass your confidence will soar!
  19. Thank you for the post. We wish you could make it for this year's trip, but maybe next year. -Kent
