Pickwick?
UPDATE: 13 flood gates open yeasterday, but we still managed more than a dozen bass 2 1/2 -4 1/2 lbs. The fish were about half and half, brown and green plus a drum and full grown whitey. Water flow 58,000 CFS early, MUCH greater, later. Water temperature ranged 49* - 52*; visibility ~3-4'. We fished a range of lures both hard and soft. Winners included a grub on jig head, Kut Tail on a MegaStrike Shak-E2 Pro Series, Rage Tail Baby Craw and Swarming Hornet/ LFT Live Magic Shad. No strikes on jerkbaits or any cranks other than the white bass on a lipless Spro Aruku. 8-)

custom Rods???
Pros: "Pride of ownership" is HUGE! "Bling-bling" is all about you. Some components are only availble custom, e.g., gold guides. "Quality control, e.g., assured alignment of guides on the spine. Cons: Many proprietary blanks are not available, e.g., G. Loomis GLX and NRX. As already mentioned, warranty issues. 8-)

Ugly Sticks
...but they have changed alot and make them pretty user friendly.. Oops! I mistakenly edited his post while responding. The poster is stating that low end baitcasters have improved significantly over the years and are now "user friendly". I don't think that is true at the pricing point he has targeted. You should stay with spinning tackle. Sorry for the confusion. -Kent

prefered hooks for tx rig
3/0, 4/0, 5/0 or 6/0. EWG for most "fat" soft plastics. For "skinny" baits I like either 1/0 or 2/0 straight bait hooks. For "big" baits like a Thumper, 5/0 Offset Round Bend Worm Hook is perfect. I fish Gamakatsu, Owner, XPoint and Moaner (Mustad). 8-)

what are the basic rod/real setups, how many?
I'm on the same page with Raul: Here ya go: http://www.bassresource.com/bass_fishing_forums/YaBB.pl?num=1141187546/0#1 I can't find another thread, "You Only Need Three Rods", but here's the essence: #1 6 1/2' or 7' MH baitcaster for jigs, some soft plastics and spinnerbaits #2 6 1/2' or 7' MM baitcaster for treble hook lures #3 7' MF spinning rod for lighter lures and a variety of techniques 8-)

help me pick a jerkbait setup
Same lures. I fish spinning tackle because I can't see or feel loose line on a baitcasting reel and a backlash is real trouble in the dark! 8-)

Glen springs??
General questions: Depth, structure/ cover and tackle? Any clues are appreciated. We're just fishing for fun, but we would still like to get on 'em! If there's a big bite on the lake, we'll forgo the river. Thanks! -Kent

missing post?
Sometimes we send a PM to new members, but when a guy has 1300 posts we figure it's just a mistake and no big deal. Promoting yourself is the same story, but you guys already know that. -Kent

help me pick a jerkbait setup
Main rig: Avid AVC66MF/ Scorpion 1000 For light lures and at night: Fenwick Techna AVS70MM/ Sustain 2500 According to Mike McClellan and Mike Iaconelli, jerkbaits should be fished on monofilament line. 8-)

Quantum sucks!!! Wait does it? KVD uses their stuff
Okay... Quantum guys speak up and tell your story. If you don't fish the brand, please start a new thread and talk about yours, there. The Posse should stay off this thread. -Kent

Pit Bull #1 public enemy ?
This has been entertaining, but seems to be getting bogged down after 6 pages..."Ban guns or Texans or both." That was pretty funny! Anyhow, let's move on. Goodnight Irene. -Kent a.k.a. roadwarrior Global Moderator

I'm headed down to Pickwick Wednesday. I will post a report on Thursday. I heard they were killin' 'em in Yellow Creek last weekend. Of course, we will start on the river below the dam!

Need input on spinning reels.
You need to at least take a look at the Symetre 2500FJ: http://fish.shimano.com/publish/content/global_fish/en/us/index/products/reels/spinning/Symetre_FI.html 8-)
