Tips on how to not lose things in the lake

Favorite fluke...
Well, they definately catch fish... As far as why I like them over the Fluke - The first day I threw them I had the best soft jerkbait bite that I have ever had while skipping docks, and was catching good size too. Could the Fluke have caught those same fish? Maybe... But those kind of days really beef up your confidence in something and ever since, Flush has been my prime soft jerkbait... and the pattern has been repeated multiple times. I also think they look a little better on the jerk.

Favorite fluke...
I threw a 6th Sense Flush for the first time a couple of month ago because I ran out of normal Zoom Flukes that day... Now I only use Zoom Flukes if I run out of Flushes ?♂️.

And yet another...Teenage Bass Angler Killed in Boat Accident
I hate to hear it... Very sad. This time of year, there are a ton of people out on the water that are first time boat owners, and half of those don't know how to enjoy themselves without a cooler full of beer and alcohol... I know that the root cause of this particular accident has yet to be identified, but, through experience, I have come to associate those seasonal cabin cruisers with inexperience, inebriation, or [likely] both... Be EXTRA careful out there this time of years fellas! A lot of the boats that you will see on the water had an inch of dust on em just last week... Look out for yourself, cause no one else will!

What a pain in the gas
One of the best investments I've ever made for camping in TX was an window AC unit and an AC boot from acboot.com for my tent. Doesn't keep it "cold" during the 100 degree days but it will keep it below 80 in the tent midday... When the sun goes down it will freeze you out though! Makes for some great sleeping! Just find a campsite with an electric hook up and you're golden.

Fishing in the rain?
There is something special about getting caught in the rain while floating in the middle of a lake - especially if there is little to no wind. It's a sound a feel that is hard to replicate anywhere else. A very unique experience.

Offshore Question
Find a brush pile or something that you can drop a marker bouey on... Then practice scanning the brush pile, dropping a waypoint, then lining up to the waypoint and casting... If your waypoints aren't being set accurately, you will know pretty soon by doing this...

you fishing this holiday weekend?
There is only one thing that can ruin the enjoyment of fishing for me and that is trying to fish while pleasure boats and jetskis buzz by me less than 50ft away all day... Hell, it wasn't even Momorial day weekend a couple of weekends ago when I was spot locked on a spot when a pontoon boat with 20 or so people on it was heading right for me... I had to wave and jump on my boat to get their attention and was 100% prepared to jump ship... Luckily, they turned about 4-5 seconds before I would of had to jump off... and that was with limited boat traffic... Memorial Day weekend? no thanks....

I do find it slightly offensive that when I try to search for a "Dallas Cowboys" GIF, only cheerleaders show up though ?

Inflatable Life Jacket
I use an inflatable but have been considering moving away from them... Not because they don't work or aren't extremely practicle, but rather because every time I put one on there's this thought that ALWAYS enters the back of my mind and it's: "I hope I installed this thing correctly" ...as in, there's a small part of me that doesn't trust that it will go off when I need it to. Whether or not I will actually go back to a "normal" lifejacket or not remains to be seen though. Am I alone on this one?

This is the 10th boating-related fatality on Tennessee waters this year. Just wear it!
I mean, I can understand that, no doubt... But if I was the one who had died of, lets say, a heart attack while operating my trolling motor, fell in the water without a lifejacket, and didn't have the strength at the time to pull myself out, I would hope that people advocated for and spread awareness about the importance of a lifejacket and always fishing with a buddy if you are a high risk individual... That being said, none of us really know the root cause here. Maybe a lifejacket would have saved his life, maybe it wouldn't have, but it would have likely helped in a big way... I feel like that is more relevant in this case than shouting from the rooftops for people to slow down.

For all we know, this dude just had a heart attack or a stroke and "fishing alone" is what killed him... what does any of this have to do with speed?

Arriving to lake game plan
When I am heading to a new or unfamiliar lake (especially with only 4 hours to fish it), i'm starting with lake map study and immediately limiting myself to searching a specific area of the lake that seems prodocutive or that I have read about from some brief online study... For example, let's say I'm going to Sam Rayburn... I would have read about places like Harvey Creek, 5 Fingers, etc... So the first thing I'm going to do is limit myself to one of those areas because they are known to house fish or have good fish habitat, and in doing so, I've eliminated 90% of the lake before even hitting the water... I now have a starting point and a place to focus with great potential to hold fish... The rest is very seasonal and I would go re-read what @WRB just posted for the juice on that...

Carolina rig line debate
It's the only applicaiton that I use mono for these days (braid main line - mono leader)... To me, a c-rig is a finesse tactic that I use bigger plastics on, and the floating properties of mono between the weight and the bait is what fits that bill for me.

Livesay Only Wins at Lake Fork ?
By the numbers above, against some of the best anglers in the world, he wins 8% of the time and lands in the top 10 just under 25% of the time... what a chump

Is it just me?
I don't care what the speed limit is... When it's 5am on a Saturday morning and I'm on my way to the lake, it's pedal to the metal baby! I got fish to catch!

Finding Those Active Feeding Windows
To say that this is an interesting topic to catch back up on this evening would be an understatement! I'm really enjoying hearing others experiences and prospectives on this topic... So thanks for all who are diving in! I'm pretty sure I got fooled by a major feeding window the other day when I was catching bass rather sparsely (1/hr ish) while fun fishing, then all of a sudden it was every cast. Out of curiousity, I went to see if it could be reproduced somewhere else on the lake, and yes, I was able to reproduce it... I'm talking, I'd throw a 10" worm into some submerged grass in 15ft of water (something that I've been doing on/off all day between spots with no such luck), take my hand off the reel to fix my fly or something, and have my rod ripped out of my hand before I could even zip up! The time was ~5pm... The bite got so good that I decided to fish a local Thursday night tournament the next day that started at 6:30pm... Long story "short", I went out and had to work my butt off for all 3 bites that I was able to grab in the 3.5hour tournament. All of the conditions were the same as the day before. Same 15mph wind speed and direction, same cloud cover, water clarity, temp, etc... The only thing that was different was the time of day (or where the sun was located in the sky), but not by much... I left that tournament frustrated by how I may have gotten overconfident by unknowingly running into a super active feeding window and thinking that I had just "figured them out". One of the motivators of this post... I have a 4 day fishing trip planned the week after memorial day... I'm excited to go out there with this topic in mind to see what I can figure out, if anything, and report back... Whether or not narrowing down active feeding windows during relatively stable/consistent weather conditions is even possible, i'm sure as hell gonna try
