  1. ^ Scott's got the right of it - we got two ponds in the area that have fountains...best producing parts of those ponds are close to the fountain. And yes, normal baits for what you're targeting are the best.
  2. If you're river fishing, then the HD; otherwise the UL should be just fine.
  3. Just the pole - they don't include it cause there's two options; an ultra-light version and a heavy-duty version - and the same place you got the main unit...or Bass Pro, West Marine, etc. Option is a spare battery pack with charger.
  4. Won't happen in MN - Fishing generates $4.4billion in economic impact (resorts, boat rentals, bait and tackle sales) and fishing license sales account for 1/4 of the state DNR's Fish and Game Fund revenue. Plus: this was made part of the State Constitution. Article XIII "Sec. 12. PRESERVATION OF HUNTING AND FISHING. Hunting and fishing and the taking of game and fish are a valued part of our heritage that shall be forever preserved for the people and shall be managed by law and regulation for the public good. [Adopted, November 3, 1998] "
  5. Plus anyone who's suffered heat-stroke or heat-exhaustion is more susceptible to those - I fell out of formation due to heat-stroke during Basic Training in TX, and have suffered a couple bouts of heat-exhaustion since then...I do NOT do well in the heat.
  6. If you want stabilization you need to have the floats further from the hull and held fairly rigid. This shows the setup I rigged for my 'cheap' Sun Dolphin Scout SS canoe (Also sold in Dicks as the 'Field and Stream Scout') Some PVC pipe, couple flagpole holders and crab-trap floats. Allowed me to stand for pitching without worries.
  7. Kent - I thought you were keeping your furry lifestyle in the closet?
  8. Yep - White Perch....caught them all the time fishing Indian Lake when I lived in Worcester, MA
  9. I'm all over the board with line - it all depends on the technique I'm using Mono, FC, Hybrid (YZH only, please), Braid to Leader, Straight Braid...I use them all
  10. Exactly - If I wanted to do 1/16oz Neds on casting gear...my Tat-CT/Victory 68MXF would handle it no problem.
  11. I think the 'no stretch' myth got going because it takes more force to START FC to stretch. These are numbers picked out of the air - by no means accurate, but just to show the difference. 8# Mono vs 8# FC The Mono will start to stretch at around 3#-4# of force The FC won't start stretching until you hit 5#-6# of force. Main difference is that Mono will 'rebound' and be just as strong, while FC doesn't rebound and will remain stretched thereby weakening it.
  12. Disproven several years ago by our own Frydog.
  13. Use the correct knot and it isn't an issue FG Alberto Albright All those are good mainline/leader knots and small enough to have negligible effect on casting distance and eyelet wear.
  14. @Will Ketchum - neither are Brown Trout...and you know the fuss that would be raised if we tried to get rid of all non-native species.
  15. These or the Gamakatsu Swivel Shots - same idea.
  16. I like teardrops on cranks and jerks - for those I'd go with a #1 Owner Teardrop. https://www.tacklewarehouse.com/Owner_Tear_Drop_Split_Ring/descpage-TDS.html
  17. Mono/FC/Hybrid only My flipping rod is rated to 25# test - I have 50# braid on it My frog rod is rated to 25# test - I have 40# braid on it My 'multi-purpose' rod is rated to 20# test - I have 40# braid on it
  18. Sounds like Lithium-Ion - those were notorious for over-heating and catching fire...and physical damage could cause this. LiFePo4 batteries are MUCH safer - really takes abusing them almost to destruction to get them to 'burn'...and even then, the fire is not as hot and put out easier with a home ABC extinguisher.
  19. Were these LiFePo4 or the older Lithium-Ion batteries? Makes a difference.
  20. Another toy for the 'weekend warrior' crowd.
  21. I don't take them off either. If it's going on the reel the same way it comes off the spool, there's no twist. I don't put mine on the floor, just mount it on the station and aim the end of the spool at the rod.
  22. Thanks....that means I should end up in front of you instead of behind you.
