  1. The Monarch is an entry level reel - about the same level as the old Trion. You can do MUCH better for not much more money.
  2. FryDog did a test a few years back - YZH was one of the lines he tested...
  3. I run 12# YZH on my Fury 705CB - less stretch than mono...one of the lowest stretch lines out there actually. I have no issues with hook-sets.
  4. AT docks and piers - no, I do not. Beside or under - yes, quite often. Hitting the dock, pier or docked boat is encroachment here and ticks off the dock/boat owners.
  5. Omnia again - 20% off all line and soft-baits - code SPRING20 at checkout....through March 31.
  6. Since I upgrade any felt-oil to carbon-fiber with a touch of Cals soon as I buy them...never. My old 640 (which I still have) I re-wet the fiber washers probably every couple years.
  7. This was my first though as well. One or two bad cells would give you the juice to run lights and such, but not enough for a high-power draw like the tilt/trim. If it's an older charger, it might be mis-reading the working cells as the battery being good.
  8. May not be very good for me physically...but they do keep me from committing homicide. Side - last full checkup (with the eye cancer I get a yearly CT scan) - no signs of anything else going on, and my EKG was that of a healthy 40 year old...and I'm 62...been smoking since I was 10.
  9. Ya - when he starts getting open sores that don't heal...well, it'll be a little late.
  10. The drag is decent as sold - but the carbon-fiber gives you a bit more top end. I use Cals on my fiber washers, so the start up seems smoother to me. I'm working on moving away from Pflueger now - loved them forever, since I got my old 640 back in the 70s - but they're eliminating the AR switch - Trion last year, Supreme (and XT) and Patriarch (and XT) this year. I think next year the Pres and Pres-XT will lose theirs. I use a President-25 for my Ned, Drop-Shop, and other light finesse techniques (ML-F rod) Pres-XT 30 for light cranks (ML-MF rod) Prest-XT 30 (ya, a second one) for wacky, neko, shakey (M-F rod) Supreme-30 is on a MH-F rod for skipping jigs and other heavier lures - I can't skip with a BC to save my life. I'll also do lighter (1/4oz and under) T-Rigs, jigs, spinners on that rig Lighter skipping is done on the Pres-XT 30/M-F rig
  11. HUK or Columbia shirts - SPF rated 30+ Long pants - usually cargo pants so I have lots of pockets for things. A hat Fishing gloves - SPF rated Sunglasses - I've already lost one eye to cancer caused by UV...want to keep the other one Sunscreen for what exposed skin is left. Ya, it gets a little warm at times - but better that than the alternative.
  12. Compuserve The Source GENIE Those were the big three way back when. Use-Net - not only was I on it, I was a mod in a couple Newsgroups.
  13. I drop something bright over the side and measure how far down it gets before it's 'hidden'. One of these days, I may make myself a Secchi Disk - that's what we used in my limnology class lo those many years ago.
  14. Don't forget the Shakey-head...
  15. Looks like what it is - a prehistoric monster...he'll remember that catch the rest of his life. Wish I could read the article - but Fox doesn't like me using my ****er. It'd be interesting catching one of those - but they're a protected species here in MN...no open season.
  16. Just think - when I started doing online things, it was using a 2400 baud (2.4k) dial-up modem. They keep telling us we'll get 1gig service out on the Island...4 years now of that and we're still limited to 100mb as the top speed available.
  17. Ya - I did upgrade my President and President XTs to Carbon Fiber - they both have a 3-stack (3 steel, 3 felt as purchased)
  18. In my experience - dual brakes work together to give you a better casting. Centrifugal work best at high spool speed - so give the most control at the beginning of the cast. Magnetic is constant, but gives the best help for control at the end of a cast - close to when the lure hits the water. My two Patriarchs - I set 3-on/3-off on the centrifugal, then start the mags at about 40% and adjust as needed for the lure I'm casting - the centrifugals are just left alone. Yes, you can use one or the other, but I use them both to give me maximum control and minimal backlashes.
  19. No matter what time of year, my demon and red crawdads get ignored here...sorry man. DT series has: Bluegill, Perch, Yellow Perch, Live Bluegill, Live Pumpkinseed... all good choices I'm actually thinking of trimming down to just those as they seem to be the only colors that catch bass here.
  20. That opinion will change with the person. Ask 12 bassers for their favorite worm...you'll get 13+ answers. Different ways of fishing use different worms - I have 4 different ones myself, in 2-3 colors of each. There are a plethora of ways to rig a plastic worm...wacky is just one of them. For wacky - once through the middle. No weight or light-weight jigs (I use 1/16oz and 1/8oz round heads for wacky jigs)
  21. I've basically boiled my line selection to four. They've all done well for me and I have no complaints. Elite YZH InvizX 832
  22. Tried it in a couple of different test strengths - tossed them and bought YZH in those tests. Casting or spinning, I just have better luck with YZH for copolys - I mean it says right on the box that it's a copolymer...hello...
  23. Probably - I've only been up since 4am...no reason...just couldn't sleep
