Does reel weight affect sensitivity of the rod?
That's the reason I use 1000 size spinners on my finesse rigs instead of 2500 like most others...reel weight for the same brand/model is usually 1oz lighter for the 1000 size.

Not happy with BasiX
Knot was set bare handed - not hauled down, just tight. This fraying happened about the middle of a 12' leader after a few dozen casts.

Not happy with BasiX
Was using some 8# as leader on my panfish rig when the lure went flying. Inspected the broken end of the BasiX and noticed this Stuff was frayed almost like it was braid. No rocks where I was fishing, just weeds and the occasional small branch floating in the water. Needless to say, I'm probably gonna stay away from BasiX - respooling a reel that had 15# on it with 12# YZH. Yes, I did inspect the guides on the rod and the roller on the reel, despite it being a new reel...no issues found.

Cologne repelling bass?
- New Fangled Gas cans 😡
I've got a newer 'can' with this push-button that seals it...not had any problems with spillage or leakage. I like it cause I put the end of the spout in the boat's tank, and it doesn't dispense until I push that button...with where the boat tank is, if I had an 'open end' can, it'd spill all over the carpet before I even got the nozzle of the can into the tank opening.- Only 2 casting rods
Very difficult - I re-started a few years back with only one casting rod and two spinners...now its 12 and 5. Anyway...best shot 7'0"-7'3" MH/F - the 'Swiss Army Knife' of rods - 40# Braid to leader (choose leader based on what lure type you're using...and sometimes no leader is the answer) - Spinners, chatters, soft swimbaits, T-Rigs, C-Rigs, Free Rigs, Lipless, Squarebills all work well on this. Moderate to light cover pitching also falls here, and you can do frogs though it's not ideal. 6'8"-7'1" M/F - 12# FC (InvizX is my FC of choice) Jerkbaits, Crankbaits, Wacky, Shakey. Will also handle Ned and Neko in a pinch. Third rod: 7'3"-7'6" - H/F - 50# braid to leader (see above) - Here's your frog rod as well as heavier cover pitching and buzzbaits.- Baitcaster rod recommendations
Medium-heavy is the 'Swiss Army Knife' of rods...doesn't do everything, but does quite a lot of things pretty well. Reason that out of my 12 casting rods, 4 of them are MH/F.- Definition of a skunk.
- Definition of a skunk.
Despite not getting any of the targeted species, if I at least caught something with fins, I wasn't skunked.- Best spinning reel for around $100?
No worm-drive - it has 'Silent Drive'...whatever that is. It is the lowest price Ci4 body reel however.- Best spinning reel for around $100?
Go JDM, young man - $102.75 to your door usually in 3-4 days...retail here in the US is $130+tax I have one of these and they're light, smooth and worth every penny. https://www.digitaka.com/item/5/4/1/4969363045140- Anyone fishing the Bassmaster Guntersville Kayak Championship?
No you come back here and commiserate with the rest of us. "Pain shared is halved, joy shared is doubled".- Anyone ever think that panfish may be line shy?
My panfish rigs are 8#-10# braid (for casting distance) with a 10'-12' 4#-6# leader...except the bobber rig...that one has 24' of 6# since I use a slip bobber and sometimes the crappie are almost that deep.- Smallmouth Ned Rig (Braid Concerns)
It's not the hookset - it's fighting the fish. I actually had one, fought it for a while, then lost it...hook was straightened out just from the 'battle'...that was a Z-Man original...that's when I went to Owner.- Smallmouth Ned Rig (Braid Concerns)
Ya - I've been using the Owner Blockheads...stouter hook on those, I like the keeper better two...they also go super-finesse...down to 1/32oz. This year I'll be testing some Ned Heads that Allen (Munkin) made up...we'll see how those work.- Need some help
Stick around, make enough 'meaningful' posts...and sell in the Flea Market here.- Sink Rates - 4 Carrier vs 8 Carrier Braid
Not appreciatively - difference between 4-carrier and 8-carrier is that the individual strands of the 8-carrier are thinner, which is why the finished weave is the same diameter.- Suggested Gasoline To Use?
Ya - but we gotta subsidize the corn farmers here...add to that, Cargill has the largest corn milling operations in the midwest...and since they're HQ'd in Wayzata...- Dobyns 702 vs 703
Well, 2" Impact is about 1/10oz, 4" is 3/16oz, 2.8" Fat is 1/8oz Add 1/6oz (1/8oz jig head + hook) We're looking at right around 1/4-5/16oz total 702 for the win.- Smallmouth Ned Rig (Braid Concerns)
Just bring a pair of braid scissors. https://www.amazon.com/Booms-Fishing-Braid-Scissor-Scissors/dp/B08793R91F/ref=sr_1_12_sspa?dib=eyJ2IjoiMSJ9.mgIznDWgFDxPhyz1l-V_Q-UR1nXrOj1kTO4juq-Lo-9_GPxIHfVIiUjLWR9r9dZUlTJMRdV98K1OgaFOSD93WJAzg1CNUaxwGd6HJ6IdmDrVHUvVXooeC2mK270LX4DlUxgX7SaUjH1kNaG79aa8LWMmEsP1voJkV_cMu5tBbOzmA_jEWjHcQvYGAXErsvgVXKjHNx3nyGBkPbbJiq-Ch86nWw3yFlN1rLDd-iPyf0ISbZk6Q4BnsqhaCvERdV8RiRUS1YBtCyIwdYIxUutxjsIz3qI3yrCH1fA1ZjHq8ko.0e1nkECi7qrpbYuzcMvrG2oGDTBM868zU2o5PtYXN5I&dib_tag=se&keywords=braid%2Bscissors&qid=1715633328&sr=8-12-spons&sp_csd=d2lkZ2V0TmFtZT1zcF9tdGY&th=1- Masking scent
Anise oil is a good one too - don't buy it from the lure shops...$16 for 2 oz is highway robbery when you can get 4oz for $14. https://www.amazon.com/Essential-Undiluted-Asthma-Menstrual-Therapeutic/dp/B07NTYPPS6/ref=pd_lpo_sccl_1/139-1578319-0104140?pd_rd_w=Lt8hp&content-id=amzn1.sym.1ad2066f-97d2-4731-9356-36b3edf1ae04&pf_rd_p=1ad2066f-97d2-4731-9356-36b3edf1ae04&pf_rd_r=WETSW6034PKVC2NQ61KS&pd_rd_wg=dkWkm&pd_rd_r=3f74805d-d11d-40b2-a873-ebe35d898d15&pd_rd_i=B07NTYPPS6&psc=1 A drop or two on a lure and you're set.- Smallmouth Ned Rig (Braid Concerns)
8# high-vis 832 to 6# InvizX is how I Ned rig - then I can see if the line starts going sideways before it hits bottom. I would also go a little longer than what RW suggested...8' is what I consider minimum - at 6', I'm cutting off and retying a new leader.- Catfish are pushing out the bass
Average year, I'll pull half-a-dozen bullheads out of Tonka during the course of the year...they primarily hang out in West Arm around Deering Island. - New Fangled Gas cans 😡
