  1. Can soap get dirty? If so, what do you clean it with?
  2. I have several Scorpion DCs models. I like them for heavier lures. I mostly turn the brakes off and use my thumb so I'm probably not a good judge of the technoglogy.
  3. Good question. I checked using the daily rainfall map derived from radar. We got 1.4 inches. The telling thing was that within a 5 mile radius of me you could find a place with a rainfall amount that would match any of the predictions. So one way to look at is that some were off by more than an inch of rainfall but none of them missed by more than a few miles. The nearest town which is about 10 miles away got almost no rain. Some of the forecast may have been for the town, not my exact location. My conclusion. Weather forecasting is hard and meteorologist do a pretty good job.
  4. Most bass stay in a home range as long as the area meets their biological needs so they have a strong tendency to spawn in the same area and possible the same nest. One study found that 87% of tagged male largemouth nested within 10 meters of where they nested the previous year. The number dropped to 27% for fish that were caught more than once during the spawn. The study was done in a controlled setting so I would expect the actual numbers to be lower on pubic lakes but it answers the question. Yes, bass tend to spawn in the same area every year.
  5. As I mentioned earlier in this thread, the CARROT app lets you choose from seven different weather sources that never agree. Here are the seven forecast for the amount of rain we will get tomorrow. So you can choose the weather you like. 🤪 Foreca - 1.21 in Apple Weather - 0.93 in Accuweather - 0.38 in Tomorrow.io - 0.00 in XWeather - 0.12 in OpenWeather - 0.57 in NOAA -0.02 in
  6. Did you try to change the bank to the correct battery type to make it work? I don't understand why you have to jump the battery. Has the BMS been turning it off for some reason?
  7. You should retie right now! If you’re asking yourself if you should retie, then the answer is yes. 😆 Too many variables to come up with a simple rule to guide you. The size line you’re using and the cover you’re casting around are probably the biggest factors. What do you have your drag set to? If you don’t know then it’s even more important to retie often.
  8. Apple weather is now pretty good. They bought an excellent app called Dark Sky a while back and used it for the new Apple Weather.
  9. Very interesting nest. I ask ChatGPT to identify the bird based on the nest. It said red-eyed vireo or white-eyed vireo Did the momma bird look like the one on this site? https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Red-eyed_vireo
  10. I use the paid version of Carrot. It's the weather app with an attitude. I disable the personal insults feature. I like Carrot because you can switch between seven different weather sources. Between the seven forecast one of them will be correct about 30% of the time.😆 Being able to see seven forecast help me understand that no one in the field really has a clue what the weather will be. I also use the Apple weather widget on my Apple Watch which gives me a short forecast (next few hours) and will tell me if rain is headed my way and when it will arrive. It pretty accurate for the next couple of hours and helps me avoid storms while on the water. I use the RadarScope app which lets you select and view all of the NOAA radar products. You can select which radar you want to view and select from about 25 data types from that radar. Of the 25 I understand what 5 or 6 of them actually are. 😆
  11. It's possible. You can pass the swivel, line, rod, reel, and everything through the loop. 😆
  12. I've never had an issue reading an SD card with my Mac. There's not much to it. Insert the card and it shows up on the desktop. Are you getting an error when you insert the card or is nothing happening?
  13. Did you watch the video? The guy poured a 5 gallon bucket full of water on the battery and it kept burning. What he did to set the batteries off was extreme. Anytime you have that much energy stored in a small space there is a chance for things to go wrong. Same is true with lead acid batteries. I have lithium batteries and I not concerned but if something did puncture one of the cell it could be bad. My batteries are right next to my fuel tank. If one of mine starts burning, I'm not gonna try to put it out with a fire extinguisher, I'll be going swimming.
  14. I'm a believer in LifePo4 batteries and I believe they are much safer than Lithium-Ion batteries but I think some are going to far in say they are completely safe. If punctured they will get very hot and release toxic gas. The extreme heat can cause other things in the boat to catch fire.
  15. When I was a teenage I waded creeks and never really found the secret to what makes a great smallmouth creek. I had one creek that would dry up into individual holes in the summer that was full of smallmouth. I had to rescue a few fish that got trapped in puddles too small for them to survive. I can't explain why this creek had so many fish. To answer you question: Yes I used to fish tiny creeks in the summer and no they did not shut down.
  16. Congratulations. I've tried to reinvent myself a few times but I was never successful. 😆
  17. I do something similar, I only fish one lure per cast. 😆
  18. Braid floats, mono sinks slowly, FC sinks like a rock.
  19. I don't think I've fished a lake with less than 10,000 acres in the last 40 years.
  20. 3/4 oz spinner bait ain’t nothing. I bump up the weight on lots of lures to fish deeper. Every lure is a top water lure without weight. 🤣
  21. Most of my baits, which consists mainly of soft plastics, ends up in the trash can in my garage after being damaged or worn out from fishing. While I do break off a few, I’m pretty good at retrieving baits that get hung up.
  22. Yes, but I would estimate I loose/destroy at least 50 soft plastics for every crankbait.
  23. My favorite crank bait cost 12 times more than my favorite soft plastic. So does the crank bait on average last 12 times longer than the soft plastic. Absolutely. Answer: Soft plastics are more expensive.
  24. Are there tweaks that I will make for fishing topwater? Yes Do they make that much difference in my success? No I worry much more about the weight of the lure I'm throwing than if it runs on top or not. I'd be willing to bet that you already have a set up that will "get er done". Don't get sucked into the notion that you need specialize equipment for every technique. That's a very expensive notion that doesn't provide very much return on investment.
  25. Here is the official Tennessee Boy bass classification system 😆 < 1 pound - Dink 1 - 2 pounds - Keeper 2 - 5 pounds - Good 5 - 7 pounds - Big 7 - 10 pounds - Hawg 10+ pounds - OMG!
