I’m not familiar with all brands but using a y cable to do that doesn’t make sense to me. There are Y cables that let you separate out side imaging so you can mount separate side imaging transducers and the multiple transducers will look like a single transducer to the unit. If two units tried to use a single transducer at the same time through a y cable it would not work and might even cause damage. The only reason I can see why you would want to share one transducer with two units would be to save the cost of a network cable. The cables are not that expensive and will let you do what you want and much more.

With a good drill, some heavy bolts and lots of duct tape any trolling motor can be mounted to any boat. ? That said, I would think twice about the Ultera. If you want to add a different transducer or a live imaging transducer the wiring is awkward if not impossible.

A single 24v battery might work well for you. At 24 volts it takes half as many amps to deliver the same amount of power. A 50ah 24 volt battery stores essentially the same amount of watt hours as a 100ah 12 volt battery. If you’re using it on an electric only lake, my only concern would be that when the battery’s BMS decides that the battery is dead it will shut down and you will go from almost full power to zero power. A good battery shunt or a battery with Bluetooth would allow you to monitor the state of the battery so you don’t run out of juice a mile from the ramp. If you find that one 24v battery is not enough power you could add a second one wired in parallel.

You can’t connect one transducer to two units. You can share data between two units via an Ethernet network. The transducer will be connected to one unit which will share the sonar data with the other unit over the network. All you will need is an Ethernet cable between the two units. If you want to add anything more to the network like MEGA Live or an iPilot link trolling motor then you will need to add an Ethernet switch.

It’s true in just about any area of expertise that the people who are knowledgeable and reasonable are the most boring. Take the pundits on network news, the dramatic ones that rant and rave have the best ratings. No one wants the watch the guy that says an issue is complicated and calmly explains both sides. Same with fishing, people love the guy who claims to have all the secrets. No one wants to hear about how important time on the water and persistence is to becoming a better angler.

Very sorry to hear about your difficult year. I’m glad life is getting back to normal. Really appreciate all you‘ve done to make this forum what is is today.

The store here is very busy. They have by far the best selection of any store in the area. I only go there on weekdays. It’s hard to even get in the parking lot on the weekend. I haven’t had much interaction with the staff but I haven’t been impressed. There are things they seem to struggle to get right. They had a special last year were you got 10% off of anything you ordered online and had shipped to the store. I ordered Mega Live this way because it saved me $150. It was in stock. I could have got it shipped to my house in 2 days. It took two weeks to get to the store and it was a royal pain to pick up at the customer service desk.

I’m not sure I understand exactly what you’re wanting to do. There are a lot of variables to consider so it’s hard to say exactly what’s possible and what’s not. Generally speaking, trolling motors require a lot of power and solar panels don’t generate a lot of power unless they are big, expensive and are positioned correctly in full sun. You will need either lots of time or lots of solar panels to charge your battery. If you don’t have access to electricity, a generator is probably a better option for charging batteries.

Realistic baits are designed to be realistic to humans. That’s an important factor because we’re the ones buying them. We are mostly incapable of judging realism according to a bass. We have much sharper vision and see more colors than they do. They have vastly better low light vision. Then there’s smell, sound, vibration, water displacement, etc. Imagine taking some beef and grinding it up with a lot of lime green food coloring. It would look gross to us because we’re very vision oriented. To a dog it’s very appetizing because they’re more smell oriented and it smells like beef. Dogs also have very poor color vision so they probably won’t notice or care about the color. A dog might notice the smell of the food coloring more than the color. Every animal experiences the world differently and judges realism differently.

Almost all of the batteries are assembled in China. I don’t see any evidence that Dakota batteries are any different from every other brand made in China. They just have better branding. I could be wrong. From what I’ve read, if these batteries don’t fail in six months from poor workmanship, they typically last as long as any other LiFePO4 battery. Look at Battle Born. They are a premium brand and are engineered and assembled in the US. Their 100ah battery is currently on sale for $774.

Has anyone here ever had a bearing fail on a boat trailer?

I use a lot of Zoom salty baits. I leave ‘em rigged up. I’ve been doing it that way for decades but I’ll stop if my hooks ever start rusting. ?

I think it was Waylon Jennings that said “1 percent of fishermen buy the boat of their dreams, everyone else settles. That’s what country music is about.” I’m not sure I’ve got that quote exactly right but you get the point. ?

There are two types of people in this world. Type 1 - Looks at a credit card and says “Wow, I can use this the buy the stuff I want that I don’t have the cash to pay for.” Type 2 - Looks at a dollar bill and says “Wow, I can invest this dollar and it will pay me interest for the rest of my life.” The type 1 people will be working at age 70 to pay the type 2 people who retire and go fishing at age 55.

What would I do in your situation? I would keep saving until I had $1000 set aside for emergencies. Then I would start paying off my credit cards and other debts. Then I would talk to a financial advisor about a plan for retirement savings. Once I was properly saving for retirement, then I would start saving up to pay cash for a used boat. Financial institutions want to loan you money for a boat. They don’t care if you can afford a boat. All they care about is can you pay off the debt. If they won’t loan you the money then you REALLY can’t afford it. I would be surprised if a dealer would let you pay for a boat with credit cards but if they will it’s a really bad idea.

I would say 80% of the bass boat owners I have known could not afford their boat. I’m not saying they couldn’t/didn’t pay off the loan. I’m saying they didn’t understand the implications of the debt they were taking on. I bought my current boat in 2018 for $32K. I could have paid cash for any bass boat on the market. If I had paid $110K for a boat I would not have been able to retire 4 years later at 59. If I had spent the last 35 years fishing out of top of the line bass boats I’d be working another 10 years.
