When do you abandon electronics and go fish shallow?
I go where the fish are so I spend a lot of time on the bank in the spring and at other times. Live sonar is not as useful shallow but I don’t turn it off. I glance at 360 occasionally and many times I’ll see something interesting away from the bank that I’ll look at more closely with live. I lot of fish will hang out 20-30 yards from where they spawn on any available cover. You can catch some nice fish casting on the other side of the boat while fishing down a bank.

MLF Stage 1 Kissimmee
I have to say the new scoring system worked extremely well for the first tournament. It’s a much better test of angler skill and certainly wasn’t any less exciting. Congratulations Chris.

Spinning/jerkbait rod - correct balance point? reel recommendation?
Well said! Although I think “balance” is the second most over thought aspect of a rod, behind “sensitivity”. ?

Sonar, can we live without it ???
Here are two contrasting ways to experience the same cast, with and without sonar. Without Sonar: I randomly cast my line and reel it back to the boat without a bite. What I didn't know was that my bait had passed a submerged stump, and a large bass followed it briefly, but didn't take the bait. With Sonar: I spot a submerged stump on my 360 imaging display. I direct my live sonar towards the stump and notice a large fish swimming by it. I cast my line towards the stump, and observe the fish approaching my bait, but unfortunately, it doesn't take it. Despite both casts resulting in failure, the second scenario is far more interesting, thanks to the information that technology provided. As a result, I find traditional fishing to be more tedious now that I've experienced how technology can change the game. I’m not sure I could go back.

Road To The Super Bowl 2023
The winning kick went over the net and the guy that caught the ball got to take it home! He has a video of him catching it. Security filters won’t let me post a link to the article.

Lithium and AGM together
Combining an old lead acid battery with a more capable battery in series is kind of like combining an old mule with a stronger younger mule in a team. The young mule will be held back by the old one so the strength of the young mule will be underutilized. The old mule will be pushed beyond it’s capability by the young mule and probably won’t last long. Combining a new Lithium battery with an old lead acid battery is like combining a thoroughbred horse with an old pony. This is less of a problem when combining old and new Lithium batteries because the BMS in the old battery will cut off before the battery is exhausted. The new battery would still be underutilized in this scenario. The manufacturer of my Lithium battery (Battle Born) suggests not combining a new battery with one more than 4 years old.

Hot Tub Swindle
When I was in high school in 1980, I went to the Vanderbilt football training facility to get treatment on a deeply bruised thigh. While I was setting there getting my thigh electrocuted, one of the Vanderbilt football players came in and the trainer told him they were going to put him in an ice whirlpool. This very large football player literally cried when they told him this. I was thinking the ice whirlpool must be pretty bad or Vanderbilt football players really are as wimpy as they appear to be on the field. ?

Are you talking about the Bare Rig? ?

The Free Rig: Talk to Me About It
Now wait a minute. I thought you were one of those guy that believe that a Texas rig is a soft plastic with the hook buried in it to make it weedless and that it has nothing to do with the weight. If so can’t a Free Rig also be a Texas Rig? I think you’re secretly one of us that believe a Texas Rig has to have a bullet weight. ?

White bass screenshots
I don’t think I’ve ever caught a white bass that deep. I caught a yellow bass about 15 ft once.

Most bass in 2023: Which lure?
This is the hardest question that has been asked on this forum all week. ? Probably a Zoom Trickworm but I wouldn’t bet on it.

lithium battery ?
I mounted a LiFePO4 battery under my console because I didn’t have room in the back. It has worked well. When I replace my trolling motor batteries I will probably rearrange things and move it to the back. I would be a little worried about putting an expensive lithium battery at the bow where it will take more of a beating in rough water. Also are you sure you won’t need more capacity in the future? Going from 3 batteries to one had to lower your total amp hours.

If it’s over 6 lbs it’ll be on a jig. If it under 6 it will be on a trick worm or Senko.

Forward Facing Sonar - Dedicated Battery? Higher Voltage?
I don’t like the logic of saying higher voltage must be better without any solid reason other than a company that sells higher voltage batteries says so. Higher resolution from higher voltage is really a stretch. I was having problems with my Humminbird electronics due to low voltage until I switched to a dedicated LiFePO4 battery. I was having problems with things dropping off the network and occasionally low voltage warnings after a long day. The new battery fixed the problems but I don’t see any changes in performance such as higher resolution or improved Mega live images.

Are there too many options?
Bill Lewis lures has 275 colors of Rat-L-Traps on their web site and six different sizes. Not every color is made in every size. I didn't count exactly how many they make but I estimate that it's around 350 different model you can buy. The price ranges from $7.19 to $14.99. What happens if the next time you go fishing, they're hitting Black Cherry Tiger Craw-630 (1/2 oz) and you don't have one?

Winter Storm Warning
It whipped Memphis, put a beating on Nashville and didn’t have anything left for us. I’m just east of Nashville. I doubt if the folks in Michigan would be very impressed with our winter storms. ? While we didn't get any ice, our schools are still closed because it's scary when the weather man talks about icy roads.
