  1. My level of excitement is not limited to just fishing. I wake up excited to tackle the day. I have a plethora of hobbies that are exciting and the reason they've become hobbies, fishing is simply a part of that list.
  2. Something I'll never forget. Was at the county fair as a teenager and was talking to an older gentleman behind a booth and he had a Jimmy houston logo on his shirt. I quickly pointed out that I loved Jimmy and fishing and that I was actually planning on fishing the farm pond later. He asked if he could join me and how's the fishing in the pond ? I replied that the pond had nothing but small bass and bluegill. He arrived at dusk and threw a large Zara spook and caught two 5lb bass on consecutive casts. From that day forward, I've been fishing with this guy for over 40 years and learned the art of bass fishing.

Why blame kids when they are a reflection of their parents. Before I retired from a big company I became a trainer and had several youngsters that were extremely hardworking and impressive in their work ethic. Some are lazy but not all.
  4. I fish for serenity as much as I fish for fish. There's always somebody on the water with the resources and knowledge to out fish me, I'm completely fine with that. I'm there to enjoy the day, spot steal all you want and I'll move, really don't care.
  5. The saga continues. This must be a catholic colony, very large family. I've ran the shop vac every 2 hrs and well over 100 wasps have fallen. I'm up for the challenge.
  6. Sir, may I ask the brand of bike your riding so that I can avoid. Lol On a serious note, look into an Ebike as those things are absolutely amazing. You could do 11.5 miles standing on your head.
  7. Nice fish and agree, photography on a kayak doesn't do the fish any justice.....like this.
  8. Good to hear and thanks for posting.
  9. I'm also back and forth with leaders being required. Waters I fish are extremely clear so slow baits get Flouro leader, straight braid for everything else. I may one day explore the results with using straight braid on plastics and likely find my efforts were in vain. AND will admit, tying an Alberto on the boat with subpar eyes sucks.
  10. Yep, thought of that to. Stuffed a sock in the end and just leaving it outside for awhile. The ones that got sucked up won't starve to death as I accidentally sucked a feeder dry. Lol
  11. Wife is a fanatical bird lover, especially hummingbirds. We have a very large population of hummingbirds which requires 20oz of nectar per day, 4 feeders. Just this past week paper wasps invaded the feeders and were very aggressive towards the birds. Wife is upset " what are we going to do ? " feeders covered in wasps. Lol Obviously we can't spray the feeders with wasp spray. So this morning I came up with a very effective game plan......a shop vac. Yes, stood outside for 15 minutes with weapon in hand and sucked up the whole colony of workers. Hummingbirds thanked me.
  12. All metal roofs, mostly barns and older homes with paint brush......that was 40 years ago. Lol
  13. Yeah, back in day when I painted roofs and wanted to beat the heat, waking up folks at 0-dark 30 was Xrated at times....some got insanely irritated.
  14. Here in western VA we've been hot and dry. Any outside tasks must be done at sunrise.....if you wanna see the next one.
  15. After reading through this thread, it gives me one more reason to dislike wind. I find it enjoyable to watch my line, especially braid while the bait is falling. You can actually see the inhale as the line jumps and more pronounced throwing weightless.......on a calm day that is.
  16. My only DD fish I've ever caught, never felt anything or simply wasn't ready. As I reeled up slack, the fish already moved to deeper water and under the boat in 20 feet of water. Must admit though, all my bigger fish moved after inhaling soft plastics and usually in a haste. Throw spinnerbaits and mitigate the mystery. Lol
  17. It's a crazy market at the present and not a buyer's market. I also bought a 2021 F250 last year for 1k under invoice and the same dealership is selling their VERY limited supply for over MSRP. I'd wait it out if possible.
  18. From my experience, catfish are very hardy fish. The James river produces some big cats at depth and never heard of any precautions being necessary......good for asking though.
  19. Had my one and only at age of 55. Doctor said all was well but had to schedule a sleep study because he had to slap me to get me to breathe. Told the doctor that I'm pretty sure he'd hold his breath as well with a camera shoved up his behind. Failed the sleep study and have been wearing a Cpap ever since.
  20. The gift of story telling, a good read. AND an a amazingly beautiful place.
  21. Talk about slaying the fish !! Good ones at that ?
  22. Throw all kinds of variations of hooks and nose weights depending on what action I'm looking for. 5.0 heavy wire on magnum flukes. Try nose hooking a fluke or Assassin with small drop-shot hook.
  23. Are you reading our minds ?
  24. I'm an early riser and much prefer fishing early morning vs night fishing plus I refuse to drink on my boat so that also eliminates night fishing. My PB came on a hot August afternoon, blue bird skies.
  25. Certainly a nice 4lb fish.
