  1. 2 absolute MONSTERS.

We had a local who caught citation after citation by doing just that. He would sit on a section of submerged cover for hours and not move if he thought a big fish was on it. Actually thought he was catfishing one day when I passed by and asked. He said gotta keep this jig wet.
  3. Let the fish completely swallow the bait, 100% effective.......Just kidding. Great advice above as I often simulate a fight when purchasing new equipment to get a feel for rod flex and drag set. Sharpen those hooks and check your drag.
  4. Wow, people that fish are in it for the long haul. Lol Just recently celebrated our 35th.
  5. Wow, 53 years is a milestone I'd like to reach, you've been blessed.
  6. Now that's a fun weekend, congrats.
  7. Jimmy houston claims fish feel zero pain but loosing an eye doesn't have to be painful but the fish still looses half of it's eye site. I've caught many bass with one working eye but got no response when asking them how it felt.
  8. The crowds have certainly taken the wind out of the sail. Before the pandemic I was fishing 3 days a week, that has plummeted to 2 days per week. It's perfectly fine to take a break as fishing can be taxing at times. Wakeup thinking positive thoughts and make someone smile. It just may require an emotional adjustment.
  9. I'll throw anything in those conditions but take into account sun position and the ambush position of fish. Big fan of blue skies and glass water.
  10. We cook just about everything on the open fire with Oak and apple wood slowly......it's all good.
  11. Did well this morning on WP 90, mostly smallmouth. Thanks for the replies.
  12. I'm in WV for a week fishing a 2500 acre lake " Jennings Randolph " and never in my life have I've seen cicadas this dense. They are flopping all over the surface of this deep clear lake. It's got me wondering what kind of week to expect with this abundant food source. Maybe I should use the cicada for bait or replicate them.....buzzbait, WP. ? Any experience fishing amongst the HORDES of these critters ?
  13. Our river is full of Rock bass and inline spinners will keep you busy all day.
  14. If I'm having a good bite on a certain bait, I always offer the same bait to a fishing companion.
  15. That is very true. I was at a big game show in PA and actually saw the Hanson buck and it wasn't the biggest buck there but do to the way the horns are officially scored, the Hanson bucks design benefits from the scoring process vs much heavier horned animals like the Jordan buck.

I've dumped 7" of rain from the rain gauge in the past 12 days here in the east. Wish I could send some west.
  17. When I feel a fish.......I set the hook. What technique requires a slack line hook set ? Moving a bait takes up slack, taking up slack allows you to feel resistance.
  18. Youngest daughter recently bought a 2021 and it's very sharp. Surprisingly she traded in a 2020 Honda civic and likes the Explorer better.
  19. What is the proper definition of foul hooked. The Weakley bass " Dottie " was said to be ACCIDENTALLY foul hooked so that tells me that treble hooks were involved. Idk It would be next to impossible to foul hook an engulfed bait like a plastic worm. I feel bad for Mac Weakly because if a purposeful attempt to snag the fish wasn't made, this big fish tried to eat his bait and he still landed it with a hook. So basically, all fish that swipe at a Jerkbait or crankbait and are landed with trebles outside of mouth can't qualify as a record fish?

Hah ! It won't work strapped to ya' but like the way you think. The mat shown in pic is heat activated so the thermacell itself has to be relatively level to be effective and moving around will also limit its usefulness. Note: they don't put out enough heat to catch a person on fire.

Might as well add black gnats and noseeums to the list of pests. Lol

Chiggers and Deer ticks are bad here. Get them every year and agree, chiggers are terribly itchy. Rubbing alcohol helps some but spraying repellent on before heading out to chigger country works best. My problem is, I forget and then it's to late. Mosquitoes? No worries Been using a thermacell for years on boats and treestands and not one mosquito bite, they work. Oh, living in the mountains has me picking off deer ticks weekly this time of year. My youngest daughter just got over lime disease and said she's not visiting me for awhile.
  23. Nice fish. I was on the water Sunday in similar air temps and it was brutal. Spent more time in the water than on the boat.
  24. Fish the Potomac quite a bit but only the upper. The lower is very popular and it's reputation draws many a fisherman. Heading to the south branch of the Potomac for a week, where it runs into Jennings Randolph. Lots of Smallmouth and LM half the size of lower. Good luck, stay safe and have fun.
  25. I lose something or run out of something, I replace. Never really gave it much thought monetarily. Same with shooting, everytime I pull the trigger I'm sending coin down range. What is the satisfaction of being entertained worth ?
