Since I'll be camping next week I thought I would ask what is everyone's favorite campfire foods?

Some of my favorites have been lemon pepper salmon and Baltimore style pit beef, back when I ate red meat.

Ever try sausages? I avoid them now due to getting gout, but used to really love the spicy ones.

Sicilian or Chicago?

Canned chili tastes good cooked outside when you're camping.  My dad was a campfire Dutch oven chef beyond compare.

When I am camping these days, there are likely young 'uns about.  I make a one pot spaghetti that is a crowd pleaser.  It uses venison or very lean ground beef.  If you want the recipe I'll be glad to post or PM you.

S’mores. I remember reading message boards about car stereos some years back and someone had a signature line like ‘all of life’s problems can be solved with a long ride with a good sound system’ or something like that. I always think nearly all of life’s problems can be solved making s’mores around a fire.

HA!!!

Every Friday from Scala’s at 69th and Ashland!

He would get the meat from either Casio’s Food’s or Ambrosino’s on Marshfield Ave.

I’m going to sleep tonight with a smile.
Thanks Pal!

My grandma used to make pepper and egg sandwiches  like nobody's business. I had no idea of the culture when I was a kid.

Breakfast, fried eggs, bacon and fried toast all made in the same skillet. Black coffee.

Lunch, fried bologna sandwich, beer.

Supper, Nathan's or Hebrew National hot dogs, brats or sausages. Beer

Steak tacos is probably our favorite.  A well marinated hunk of skirt laid right on the burning fire after you blow off the ashes.  Great combo of char and smoke flavor.  Bonus is it is super easy because as long as you nail the marinade all you need for toppings are chopped white onion, cilantro and a bit of lime juice.  A quick pico de gallo and some chips round it out well with beer or margaritas.

Obviously if you use a camp stove or grill there are tons more options, but for one night I'd forego carrying that stuff and just use the fire.  Our other fire favorite are Koobideh skewers, but they are more work.

While we were camping, no meal and no food compared to breakfast!  It was the greatest! I haven't heard anyone mention fried toast in many, many years. Thnx!        jj

Bun length all beef hotdogs with a pot of mac and cheese is one of my favorite camping dinners. Burgers with baked beans is right up there too. Breakfast is an egg/bacon sausage scramble topped with cheese.

Heck yes I do from Mott St in NY.  I also miss the feast of San Gennaro!

Campfire food is a great steak over the open fire with a potato toasting in the coals

Took my son wading and camping on the Shenandoah years and years ago.  At the end of the day he asked what we were going to eat for dinner.  I told him it will be the best cheeseburger you have ever eaten in your life.  He asked why that was and I told him I really don’t know but for some reason a cheeseburger cooked on the grill over an open fire just can’t be duplicated.  He took one bite and gave me this puzzled look.  I asked him what was wrong.  He said 3 words, “you were right”.?

For a few weeks a year, this is true!
