I work the lipless with a stop and go or yo yo technique. I look along north shores where the sun has been on it warming it all day...if there's a south wind blowing into shore even better. I'm not a huge square bill guy especially in cold water..I much prefer a spinner bait or a swim jig. In spring I prefer fishing in late afternoon allowing the water to warm as much as possible.

Big worms. Never used them until this summer so I got some jelly worms and zoom mag 2s and caught some brush fish during the dog days. I also read and watched anything I could about fishing the.

Slow and methodical

Just seems like a cool guy..could just be your buddy that happens to be better at catching bass than everybody else. Said after he won he was gonna celebrate at a local dive bar.

I'm with @Bird..go shallow. Rising water in my experience tends to push bass shallow regardless of water temp or time of year. Slow rolled Colorado blade spinner bait or dark colored jig with a good size trailer fished up shallow around any brush or lay downs newly submerged should produce I'd think. Also if you can find any creeks running in there should be bass around.

May just be my favorite pro bass angler right now. I first became aware of Seth back in 2016 from his comeback tournament on the Mississippi river. Up til that point he had a very lackluster career and even said he wasn't sure if he could hang. Then he goes to the Mississippi and drops a 2nd place. Next tournament he has a huge win on Mille Lacs Lake for the AOY championship. I became a huge fan..who doesn't love the underdog story? Fast forward 5 short years, he has become super consistent and this year he captured the 2021 Bassmaster angler of the year in dominant fashion. Then I watch a recap video he did for *** in which he states he caught most of his fish this year flipping a tube, throwing a shallow crank or winding a spinnerbait..never catching a bass he said in water deeper than 8 feet. Doing it against a field glued to live scope after people said if you don't fish that way you can't be competitive. Dudes flipping tubes, flipping jigs, winding spinnerbaits and cracking skulls. Doesn't get more old school or more bassy than that. All the while rocking a bad a#$ mustache. Anyhow I enjoy everything he puts out and I hope he has a long successful bass career.

Why would you ever tell somebody to remove trick worms from their cart? You trying to get him skunked?

Fish finder?

I actually just started throwing them this summer as part of my big worm brush pile game. I was using the 9" in blackberry and grape- caught several quality fish on them.

Not sure its purely a generational thing..take my parents for example. Mom: born in 57-graduated in 75-very proficient with her cell phone, tablets and uses basic computer systems at work like excel, word etc. Dad: born in 55- graduated in 73- no offense dad but when it comes to technology you can't find your own A#$ with 2 hands and a flashlight. He's had a cell phone for the better part of a decade and just "figured out" how to text like 3-4 months ago. I'm 38 and grew up with all sorts of technology- computers, cell phones common by the time I was in high school, countless different types of video game consoles..and computer business classes in junior high and high school. As an outdoorsman I sometimes get sick of technology and would much rather be outside sans phone and all ties to the tech world. But I'm comfortable with and take to learning any of that stuff easily.

For years I made very little money...like less than 25k a year. When that was the case my most expensive rod was $150. Back then I said someday when I make more money ill buy myself an arsenal if $500 rods. Now days I make pretty good money and my most expensive rod is? Around $150! Just don't see the reason..for me.

I'm in northwest Iowa so I'm several months away from ice out..but when it happens I will be ready. On my rods will be: Ned rig, jerkbait, finesse jig, shaky head and lipless crankbait.

I fish alot in cold water...my 2 favorite trailers are a 4in yamamoto double tail grub or a zoom super chunk jr.

If a tube will work I'd think a shaky head and Ned rig would work.

I've got a good buddy that used to be a maintenance supervisor at my plant that also is a certified gm mechanic..he gets the majority of my business. He did about $1000 worth of brake work on my truck going by basic shop rates for about $600. Brakes work and I trust he didn't swap out anything unnecessary just to pump me for money. That piece of mind is worth alot.

In my experience spinning rods fish softer than the same power casting models

Ill go along with @Team9nine on this and I'd put my estimate at somewhere between 5% and 10%. My opinion has been built on 15 years of ice fishing with a fish finder and seeing fish reject lures over and over. Another thing that tells me this is I read that dnr electrofishing report and the numbers of bass compared to the numbers I've caught were surprising to say the least.

Happy birthday man..I'm 38 so not to far behind you. My mom, dad and sister all have glasses so I'm sure that's in my future. I usually feel younger than 38 but when I get 50-60 hours into a shutdown week I sometimes feel 75! I don't have kids but uve got a great woman, great parents, a solid job and a wonderful hobby so I to am blessed. Keep fighting the good fight.

Last winter during that epic cold snap we actually had a few nights the wind chill was around -50.

I used to enjoy ice fishing almost as much as open water but the past 5 years that enjoyment has dropped off. This year I haven't even checked my auger blades or charged my fish finder and its almost christmas. Don't care what kind of clothing or gear I have there is nothing fun about being out in -30 windchill.

That is my #2 choice for color disappointment.

Just do what I do..if she gives you a hard time tell her you make more money than her so you can do what you want...........ok obviously I'm just messing around. Im extremely fortunate in that my lady is not only sweet and beautiful she is also laid back and low maintenance. She never gives me crap about my gear.

I'm in the same boat as @MN Fisher...we are completely shut locked in ice. If I'm gonna fish anything now its gonna be vertically jigged thru an auger hole for at least a few more months.
