Take me through your lure progression
I'm probably going to throw a small spinnerbait for a while, then a suspending minnow bait, then a 1/8 ball head with a grub, then if none of those produce, a jig n pig. Then when the sun starts to go down I'll try a buzzbait, then a jitterbug. When it's dark I'll toss a 10" worm into the shadows, alternating with the jitterbug. If the action is slow, I'm going home. No real method to my madness. I just go with lures I've had success with.

Your first car
1967 Camaro Rally sport 4 spd with a 327. Bought it from a fireman at a local airport. My mom took me to get it. I had no idea how to use a clutch. Killed it a couple times quick. Then did an accidental burn out when I finally got it moving. Great first car. I had a buddy put deep carpet in it, which was the trend at the time. Can't remember what happened to it.

Favorite Jerkbait???
I actually use the bigger Husky Jerks trolling for trout. I use the HJ-8 size for lake smallie fishing.

Bass Fishing History
Quite a few years back now I use to shop at Manteca Bass Shop (can't remember the name, but it's Fisherman's Warehouse now, I think). I asked about flipping and they told me 'You want to talk to Dee Thomas'. There were a bunch of killer bass guys hanging out all the time and Dee had just left. I called him and he took me out, scared the hell out of me speeding thru the delta, and then proceeded to catch big bass all day. I remember thinking 'why are there no seat belts'? Truly thought he was crazy, lol. He pretty much just fished and talked. I struggled to catch anything so he finally put me in a spot where I couldn't miss. I couldn't afford to pay that much too often, but I did learn the basics. I stopped at the store on my way home and bought a Team Daiwa flippin' stick, which I still have. Just a good ole boy. And to this day I've never gone on another high powered bass boat.

Is this normal?
I could see stuck plastics causing a skinny fish, but deformed? Still not buying it. Not saying any one is wrong, just need to see proof before I'll believe it right. 'Near the power plant' haha love it, Spankey.

What Happened to Sun Dolphin Pro 120???
I got an incredible deal on a used one with a trailer. Then sanded and painted the trailer, added a deck to the trailer and painted it, redid wiring on boat and trailer, added a casting deck. It still isn't finished but my posting is just to say, 'careful what you wish for'. I still have a Basshunter too. EDIT: Sorry mine is a Pelican Predator. I got confuddled.

Trying to explain what a bite feels like...
Bassun is right, and someone told me 'hook sets are free'. I like free stuff.

Cheaters caught by forensics!
Sorry, my view is that their tourney wins were just theft, plain and simple. Never mind the motivation.

The official "Who's drinking tonight?" thread
Well this thread isn't about non drinkers. I rarely drink but yesterday was my birthday and my son bought two bottles for me. Michters and Angels Envy. I fell and hurt my left leg four days ago, so after dinner I poured a triple shot of Michters over the rocks to help with the pain. It was pretty smooth. Those two bottles will last a year or more.

Is this normal?
Don't know why you would think that. I have seen several deformed fish over 30 years of fishing. Likely birth defects. My old man used to raise fish in aquariums and occasionally a new hatch would contain some wacky tails.

How I Loathe My Minn Kota Terrova Ipilot
I was thinking about this last night coincidentally. (Minn Kota and spot lock). This thread is 5 years old so the info probably doesn't apply. Might have to start a new thread,

Scratches and Paint Chips on Equipment
I'm crazy protective of my reels and have very few marks spread over my whole collection of reels. I hate when the lettering rubs off reels I palm a lot. Before reel covers became a common thing I used to pull heavy wool socks over my reels when I went on a party boat. (A guy once racked his rod next to mine and thrashed my reel on the ride home). My user reels are ones that already have a mark. But even my users are pretty nice. And most of my stuff is 20+ years old. I look at it as respect for a fine little machine. Maybe I'll relax when I grow up. (66 yesterday).

How Often
TS 321 has no problem seeping into shielded bearings. I have never intentionally removed a shield. But I just replaced a bearing in one of my salt water reels because it was a bit noisy. I may pull a shield to see if I can clean it out. May be able to flush it and relube it. I have another new spare but it will be a good test on the old one.

Musicians
I miss my grandad just for the late night talks about life. He always seemed to see far off things when I talked to him. Gave me my first glass of sipping whiskey when I was 17. He was gone soon after. He did a mean soulfull whistle tune.

Crankbait eye color
I think I agree with you about 90% but, I have always picked lures that would seem to have coloring you might find in nature. Crawdad colors are a favorite, shad colors, etc. (Not confident in bright clown colors etc.). If I have the depth range, shape and size, I then pick my favorite colors. If it looks like something to eat to me, the confidence my fish target will eat it grows. And if it has yellow eyes well..........

A double quadruple?
That's some pretty good numbers. I'm hoping to just find the crappie next week when I go.

Crankbait eye color
The lure I was talking about had red eyes. My luck has always leaned toward eyes that stand out (like yellow). Even in the holo eyes I look for a gold or yellow ring.

Crankbait eye color
I was going thru the auction baits and was looking at crankbaits. I said 'No, if it had yellow eyes I'd bid'. Then I realized my go to baits all have a yellow eye. Anyone else choose one eye color over the other in the same style crankbait?

Finesse Observation
Yes, that is a dead on assessment. Since I only use 6lb mono on all my reels I stick to small suspending Rapala's, Torpedo's on top, small spinner baits, small jigs up to an 1/8th, etc. But go with your gut, It will tell you what's up.

Any knife experts on here?
I have a collection of knives, mostly Case & Buck types. I have a lot of bone handled as I like the look. I would not turn that loose. But I would also never pay over $200 anymore. They just end up in a drawer.

Show Off Your Work!
Along the lines of smaller profile, I use the smaller offerings from vendors and add a twin tail plastic grub for bulk. The issue is that they get beat up pretty fast, (A good thing right?). I recently stumbled on some small titanium wire spinners. I'm going to transfer my favorite shad skirt, (firecracker), and pearl twin trailers to the new spinners. The smallies in our local lake crush them on a strike. The lake has been closed since Covid and now fire threat. I'm hoping my baits, my boat, and the lake will all be ready at the same time. It should be Jurassic, lol.

Lure trendiness...
When I get done redoing my little Pelican I'm going to show those bass a jig-n-pig with real pork, a jitterbug, some Mann's augertail worms, some old Stanley spinnerbaits, and my favorite 1/8 Owner ball head with a Mister Twister grub in chartreuse with copper flake. And I'll probably throw some Bomber A's too. (All still in my stash). I'll be using old Fenwick rods with Shimano Bantams, and 23 year old Stradics. I'm gonna hammer them!
