  1. I’ve got a laydown on “ol muddy pond” that I’ve referenced before where there seems to be a fish that is the only fish in that pond that likes a spinnerbait. I wanna say she’s shaken me off three times now. It’s a shame because she seems to be a biggun. I don’t lose many fish on a spinnerbait either. She’s just a beast I guess A lake where a partner and I had trouble landing quality fish is Badin Lake on the Yadkin river chain. Those fish are mean in the summertime and we had some heartbreak. I actually talked to that partner yesterday though and he updated me, telling me that he believes he caught a fish that I watched him lose off a boat ramp. He said she went over 6lbs
  2. I admittedly skew towards large willows and small Colorado’s and Indiana’s
  3. Golly nice fish. Is that one you made? Looks a lot like Nichols Red Shad
  4. Lol. He’ll be here. He likes to look in on these threads. Maybe dream about catching a biggun on a spinnerbait On topic of thread: This video started the journey of modifications for me
  5. I can be like that sometimes, yup. Just depends though. Yesterday for the short while I was fishing, I only threw spinnerbaits about 10% of the time. Vast majority was jigs and lipless. Just felt like they were a better option for the conditions and depth I was fishing (20ft)
  6. I have. I’ll dig for a photo later but I bought blanks and started tying my own skirts and coming up with the blade combinations and spacing myself
  7. Hey y’all, GoneFishingLTN’s thread reminded me that I have a problem with spinnerbaits. I just can’t let a spinnerbait stay the way it is out of the pack. I always want to change something. @Gera gave me some absolutely sweet looking SV-3s and I know how good of reviews they get, but I still want to change something about the bait. I can’t stop thinking about changing that back blade to a large hildebrandt and keeping the front blade the same. For the sake of preserving the gift as is, I will start to throw them with the stock blades, but this is my confession that it probably won’t stay that way. Sometimes I just can’t let a skirt be either. I’ll think, “man, this spinnerbait is great, but it would be amazing with a rubber skirt.” Luckily the SV-3s is too awesome for me to change. I have a problem. Always tinkering with these things. Never satisfied
  8. I pretty much like my t-rig, jig, and spinnerbait rods all equally. I did try to invest the most amount of time researching these rods as opposed to some of my other techniques because these are techniques that I felt like I could take anywhere. You can fish these 24/7 365 in a variety of different covers and bodies of water. P.S if you are looking for a quality spinnerbait rod as you mentioned, I recommend the Falcon Expert Head Turner. Balances best with 1/2oz. If that is your preferred spinnerbait weight, that is a good choice of rod. I throw 3/8 and 3/4 on it fine too but it really is awesome with 1/2oz. That rod is my most expensive that I own.
  9. Okay took me a bit to understand your question but I believe I get it now. I keep my blades in my blade box just standalone, no swivel attached. So when I change the blade on the spinnerbait’s swivel, I will just remove the blade, leaving the swivel and split ring intact, and move the new blade on. The only time I change the swivel is if I do not like it as is out of the box. You can test swivels by giving the hanging blade a small tap forward and watching the blade rotate. If it slows to a halt verrry slowly and smoothly, it’s a quality swivel. If it stops abruptly, it is a little more cheaply made. I like a size 2 and size 3 sampo when changing swivels Have fun changing blades! It’s pretty often that I do some changing to spinnerbaits out of the package. And don’t be afraid to change the clevis blade either, but that takes more work and care and I only do it once to avoid weakening the wire too much and risk breaking it Edit: changing the blade via removing the swivel as well, however, could be faster depending on the blade. I can see the advantage to doing this. That way you could sorta ‘pre-load’ a few blades to change to quickly on some of your most productive spinnerbaits. Like maybe pre-load a smaller blade to get one spinnerbait to run deeper.
  10. Don’t feel like I catch enough big bass on diverse, public waters to be of much help but for what it is worth, my list is a senko - especially black, zoom mag 2, spinnerbait - Nichols and Zorro Short Arm, siebert swim jig with rage menace trailer, and Nichols buzzbait. I like and used Booyah coverts a lot this season but Nichols spinnerbaits seem to get bigger fish for me, often
  11. I don’t know yet. Still have many places to see I was really attracted to the Santee Cooper Lakes after watching a Bassmaster Elite tournament on them. Looks like a nice area of SC too
  12. Thanks for the suggestions y’all. I wasn’t able to get too much done today as had motor difficulties and had to be towed back to the ramp early ?. Water temp 43-45, water clarity is okay, most bait down at 20ft. Saw one area but nothing else. No fish
  13. I read that Harris does not have Hot spots from the plant? I originally thought that it was warmed from there but read otherwise
  14. Fishing Shearon Harris out of a Jon Boat with a trollin motor
  15. Appreciate the truth from you Only here in NC for the holidays so wanted to try and take advantage of some Southern fishing. What is wrong with a day on the water, even if it is only to look around and toss a line, trying to get an idea of where the fish are for later? I hope fishing is good when the water starts to warm up. Around New Years we’ll get some of that but then I will be gone for MO soon after
  16. @Gera you did really, really good. Thank you. Everybody knows that War Eagles are effective and the screaming eagle is my choice to burn or fish fast. Became more open minded about that when chasing smallmouth. And the SV-3s, holy cow. I am analytical about every aspect of a spinnerbait and the SV-3s are built masterfully. Really excited to try them. I gotta imagine that they will be top performers for me. @NorthernBasser wanted me to try these so this is my golden opportunity. To be honest, I will be saving these spinners for warmer water but once the water temps climb, especially in the summertime, I will be using these and I’ll share my thoughts on them later. Particularly the SV-3 as I’ve never thrown one before. Thank you so much! The black nickel blades on that one SV-3 ?
  17. It’s rigged but weather does not look ideal for it. Bright sun and no wind. It will see some action, more later as it gets warmer with cloud cover, but initially it is likely going to be taking a backseat
  18. Hey y’all, So apparently the man upstairs forgot to turn the heat on over the past few days. It’s all good; seems like it will be back up and running soon. I’m looking to fish tomorrow in NC. I don’t know how many times water temperature has dropped below 40 here on large lakes but I am now thinking that it is a strong possibility by the time I hit the water. In unprecedented cold water, how are you fishing? I had thoughts of trying to capitalize on dying shad through the use of jigging spoons and otherwise just using typical winter baits fished very very slow. What should I be paying attention to? Thermocline, depth of shad, any birds, and hard spots etc are things that I wanted to look for once on the lake Merry Christmas y’all ?
  19. You are really thoughtful A-Jay to remember this and ask about it 10 months later. Really glad to hear Kyle is doing well @Mobasser
  20. Not the only way to go. MH fine too. I used a 7’ MH for a while with success. If having trouble sticking fish on a MH, there are a load of factors you can change besides rod power. Think drag setting, think weedguard thickness, think hook thickness, think reeling down to get rid of all slack before hookset. Jig setup and ensuring you get good hook penetration with a jig IMO is built over experience with a certain setup and with fishing jigs in general. You get comfortable over time knowing approximations for what your drag should be set at, how thick your weedguard should be, and what hooks on jigs might be too ‘light’ or too ‘heavy’ for this particular setup. And if they are either light or heavy, you can tweak as needed from your baseline, but again, that does not always need to be changing rods.
  21. My recommendation is to order them custom. Take a look around at all the different skirt colors, head colors, blade combos, blade colors, weights, etc that you can get on their website, and order something you fancy. Expensive built custom but they will last you. I have one that has caught over 25 or so, still going strong. Here are some that I ordered custom a while back. Haven’t fished them a lot because was hurt with my shoulder but the little bit I used them, they were very successful. Send an email to Brooks Woodward detailing what you want for them custom
  22. Do you own Nichols spinnerbaits? Now may be the time to build your collection
  23. What I been working on My first outing on Harris will be the 26th. I hope to get five in
  24. We are out of power here. Hopefully won’t be too long
  25. If you told me that a strip of bacon is the most effective winter bass bait ever made, I would consider throwing it. I see you catch loads of big fish
