Latest Tackle Purchase Thread (Bait Monkey Victim Support Group)
Coming back from Nashville. Somehow the bait monkey followed me Especially excited about the lucky craft. I’ve always wanted a LV500 so I got one to try out sometime.

Cold Rivers
It gets really tough in rivers for smallmouth when that cold?

Cold Rivers
With very cold water temps in a small river, where are you looking for smallmouth? In deep pools? Sunning on a rocky bank? What are your favorite river lures for these very cold temps? Edit: I’ll just say where I’m fishing in case it helps. Big Piney River in central MO

Looks Like I’ll Be Taking A Break
At this time I’d like to say that the break has ceased. I feel able to fish when I want and how I want, but not necessarily for as long as I used to or through the same means (bank instead of kayak). Household chores bother me a lot less, I can cast fine, can perform moderate upper body exercises, overall pain has lessened. Shoulder group - sorta involving the back as well - is significantly stronger. The next thing to look forward to will be kayaking and a return to full lifting. Both might be a ways out still but at least I’m on my feet Only bad thing is the timing of my healing… we have some nasty cold weather coming that will freeze up the ponds around here.

It’s fun

Working to Stay Lean ~
Ran a 12:13 2mi run this AM. I ain’t done numbers like that for 4 years. Last night did over 5mi. Last weekend run rucked for 4mi straight, never walked. Besides that, shoulder can tolerate more strenuous and more frequent activity now. We climbing! Working to stay lean? Reporting for duty! Enjoy seeing your posts here @A-Jay

Cooking/Baking Thread
Last night’s meal. Was out Saturday and wanted to cook something really nice for a Sunday meal. Went all out on Bibimbap. This is how it turned out. A few new ingredients and I tried to be as meticulous as possible making it. My Korean food repertoire is thus far Bibimbap, kimbap, pajeon, jjajangmyeon, and bulgogi.

hypothetical FIRST-DATE question.
I cooked some steak last night for another bibimbap and it was right how I like it… bout a medium and it had been soaking in some honey, garlic, roasted sesame seeds, soy sauce, and toasted sesame oil. That was one of those steak portions that just knocked me out it was so good. The most involved dinner I’ve cooked
-
hypothetical FIRST-DATE question.
Meet me in the middle here… I like a medium But I’m with the crowd in here that would probably just ask for a check if I’m on a date and she orders a well done steak with ketchup… golly

Learned something today.
Lol. That’s about accurate description of how it feels sometimes. It’s okay, thanks for asking! Think we’re making progress. I’ve done some really slow fishing with very few casts and not much luck. Shoulder is pretty strong, can see that in physical therapy. Just still bothers me doing certain motions. I’ve gotten a lot busier very quickly though. Fishing hasn’t been at the forefront of my mind

Learned something today.
Nickel blades were a big deal in the clear NY water I fished for a while. Whether or not that extends to other places with clear water, I will not venture to say.

Learned something today.
That’s too complicated for me Catt.

Frog Swimjig
I feel that Siebert summer craw color imitates either a sunfish or frog when used as swim jig If I’m not mistaken, this is green pumpkin/watermelon red skirt but later I used summer craw with same success. The trailer is also summer craw

I did not like Slipknot when I first listened to em. The gateway song for me was “The Devil In I” because I really liked the chorus and some more melodic moments of the song. The more I listened to them, the less I minded the yelling and they’ve now become one of my favorite bands. There are a lot of explicit songs that I wouldn’t post here but love nonetheless. I am very attracted to perceived novelty in music and I’ve heard nothing quite like Slipknot. Same goes for TOOL, Rammstein, Black Sabbath, etc. That’s just me!

Show Off Your Work!
Can use small round nose pliers to make a neat loop at the end. Just grab a little short of the end of the wire with also some of the pliers out in front of the wire, and loop the wire in one motion back onto itself then adjust as needed so there is no gap. The round nose is essential for making the loop nice and neat, but crude pliers will work fine too with a little more work. I can’t guess why your bend would cause your spinnerbait to behave like you say, though. Dunno. Your method of looping seems okay but it is more than is needed and will also grab weeds as others mention.

Show Off Your Work!
Made a tied spinnerbait. Very crude tying. I will try and get some more equipment and learn the finer points of tying, but believe this should hold up fine. Skirt is medium grade round rubber + strands of flashabou for accent.

Confidence lures
How do I react to a reaction? @gimruis you giving me the confused face after I didn’t say spinnerbait has me laughing ?. I just know that there exists a pond that I cannot catch any bass with a spinnerbait so I’m playing it safe. I do think that on most lakes I could achieve OK year round success on a spinnerbait.

Rage Swimmer help sought
As @AlabamaSpothunter mentioned, I like a slower taper for single hook moving baits. I like a moderate fast as opposed to a fast. On a thread about spinnerbaits a while back, I noticed that several reputable members use and prefer a fast taper, but a few added that while they prefer this taper, they will give time for the fish to better inhale the lure before setting the hook. I don’t believe this period of waiting time is very long, and a slower taper seems to close that gap some, at least for me. I have a hair trigger when setting the hook on a bite, so I prefer a taper that slows me down when using single hook moving baits. I hope this helps, but I am not able to talk specifically about setting hook on swimbait heads very much as I feel I haven’t fished them enough to give accurate info on them specifically. If more experienced members know some differences between swimbait head bites and spinnerbait bites worth mentioning, I would love to hear about it. I hope my analogy of the spinnerbait is helpful nonetheless

General Bass Fishing!
The trouble is that while you asked about general information about bass on sonar here: You are still narrowing your question down to relate to the “technique” of dropshotting. You are asking about help for vertically dropshotting for bass, which inherently might involve answers including how to orient or move your bait or what even what bait to use as we saw one member suggested. You could drop the topic of dropshotting entirely, and just ask questions about bass offshore, and then that would a “general” topic. But as your post is framed right now, I think it rightfully fits in the tackle section because it discusses a technique. And by the way, the tackle section is the most active of the forums, receiving the most traffic, and we have helpful members on here. One more thing. Seems like you intend for this thread to have more than one question about general bass fishing? I recommend you just make separate threads for each of your questions. Keeps the website organized, but moderators can speak better about this than I can.

Confidence lures
Prob a shaky head, jig, or standard t-rig worm of some sort. No, not a spinnerbait for me
