  1. Yeah that is popular Most commonly if I am changing size of blades, I’m going larger than stock on willows, and smaller than stock on colorados. My favorite size colorado is a #4. (hildebrandt). Small size colorado that caught my PB. I will also make double Indiana, Indiana/willow, or other unique blade combos Anyways, back to the thread, do y’all look for crankbaits that hunt? Is there anything that you look for to determine if a hardbait is good?
  2. I wish I could say that I’ve found a hard bait that is an abnormally stellar performer, but I haven’t. I think that’s simply because I dont throw hardbaits enough. Now when I say hardbaits, I’m not including spinnerbaits. But just some food for thought: if little changes in how a crankbait is built can produce big changes in its effectiveness, why would some small or large deliberate changes not do the same for spinnerbaits?
  3. Zillion is a nice reel, congrats. I do like mine.
  4. I need to find that old post of mine where I found something wrong with every type of line and concluded that we should just use shoestrings instead. It all works. Experiment and find what you like
  5. I am still playing around with finesse worms but my current favorite way to use them is on a Charlie brewer ultra spider head. Zoom finesse worm A guy on Badin showed me firsthand that a shaky head can get the right bites. It is not an admission to yourself that “I’m having trouble catching fish.” It’s a legit strategy for catching a great limit. There were days on Badin when it would be before sun up, and I would be throwing one already. Sometimes it was the first thing I’d use
  6. @Pat Brown yeah y’all get generally more humidity too. A day in the triple digits in NC is not something to just disregard
  7. It was 108 friggin degrees when I launched the boat last night. It’s like being in a toaster
  8. I’m considering taking Sep and Oct off from fishing to hit the ground running Nov
  9. ??? She left a mark. I hold ‘em by the side of their mouth out of habit. Downside is holding em like that can get me tore up sometimes
  10. I hadn't been on the water for almost two weeks. Just had stuff going on. So after work today, I spontaneously decided that I was going to go, and I was gonna take the kayak too. Went out to Stillhouse and fished for 2 hours. Finally got the quality bass I'm looking for. I really like 5+lbers. They just make me happy. So today was the first. Got a 5 even and a smaller one too. Bass are so weird, y'all. I threw a worm the most, because that's what they've primarily liked recently. For this trip, I brought 3 bags of worms and one spinnerbait. I should have brought two spinnerbaits. It's what they wanted. I actually broke off a great sized one and I think it was because I missed something in the line. That kinda hurts, but I ain't gonna beat myself up about it. This was just a spontaneous trip to make myself feel better. Still so much I want to say, but I'll try and keep it brief. That 5lber was the absolute spunkiest bass I've caught. It leapt 4 times vertically out of the water. Just directly upwards, y'all. Head pointed to the sky. It thrashed in the boat a ton and left my left thumb bleeding. Okay last thing. That 5lber and the one I broke off were really really shallow, and the water is 90 degrees or just under in some places. I was still structure fishing.
  11. I debated between bottom and top of the knot for a while. What I found is that the knot cinches most easily and finishes most naturally when the loop is on top of the knot, as other said. It should be fairly smooth to cinch the knot down
  12. I don’t really like Cavitrons. Why pay for a buzzbait with a thin wire when there is literally no need for it? i used to take the Cavitron blade off a Cavitron and put it on other buzzbaits. Nowadays I don’t sweat it too much and just pick one with a good pointed head, a thick wire, a good hook, and the ability to flex the wire so it bangs into the head. I prefer that style of buzzbaits as opposed to the “slow-rollers”
  13. Happy birthday!!!! ??
  14. I’m pretty good at running and I hate it, lol. So maybe I agree, don’t trust runners. Maybe they don’t like themselves ?. I ran track and XC in high school and fortunately I just never seem to lose the ability to run well. Running is good exercise and I still do it on my own sometimes. Impact on pavement isn’t great but in moderation, I think it’s fine
  15. CONGRATS @Pat Brown!!! What a gorgeous big bass
  16. That and the z hog are sleepers in the zoom lineup
  17. I generally agree that what I see, I would not consider flats. Here are two examples of what I would call a flat. One is huge. They both are fairly large though
  18. I have the zillion p. I use it for crankbaits, now, actually. Nice slow gear ratio and the zillion has a propensity to cast crankbaits quite a ways.
  19. If I can get it from Midway, they are one of my top choices
  20. I like black weights. Dull or glossy finish, don’t really matter to me. I tried red weights for a while, and I swear that somehow I was catching less fish. Doesn’t really make sense to me
  21. I am not well educated on this topic. I feel that sometimes, we can be our own worst enemy trying to catch bass. I also feel that some of the easiest fish for me to catch have been from relatively unpressured ponds.
  22. Always a possibility. please go over to Somerville sometime and tell me that it’s not just me that can’t catch a bass there. Stupid lake ? Like, I’m thankful to catch a bass over 7lbs from there. But really now I’m just thinking it was because those fish were prespawn and easier to catch. I still didn’t get a limit that day
  23. @Catt I need to head over that way sometime.
  24. Where is that? Looks gorgeous
  25. It is possible you got a bad spool I personally have never gotten a bad one, and if I'm using mono for anything in the baitcasting or leader realm, it's big game. It's just what I'm going to recommend, sorry
