  1. Don't run them dry!!!The screech you hear is probably from a dry bearing pack/s, try cleaning/lubricating the reels bearings... Or The split (two piece) spool shaft.... As for the drags it already has a carbon matrix pad system...Tight Lines!!!

  5. You don't state what reel/s you have...Most articles that are linked up are just general maintenance, for seasonal service you need to dig a lot deeper... A complete break down of the reel, all parts removed from the set plate. Soaking, scrubbing of each part. Polishing and proper lubrication of all parts then re-assembling the reel. If you have never done it, I wouldn't recommend that you start on your good reel/s now. You can have it done professionally cheaper than you think... Good Luck & Tight Lines!!

  16. The reels frame is graphite, the side plates are probably a light plastic of some kind and when you broke them open the frame flexed and that is why everything feels herky jerky and tight. You will spend some time taking it apart and rebuilding and trying to get it to free up. I would place it in a box, and leave it for winter time, then get a reel that hasn't been discontinued... Good Luck & Tight Lines!!!
  17. If your looking at brass spool support bushings I would need to have the OD x ID x Thickness measurements. My Black 5001C from 1985 also had bushings, and I changed them out to ABEC5 3x10x4 mm's. Reel Drag & Spool Shaft Bearing Upgrade Supplies Tight Lines!!!
  18. Be careful lose one part and your S O L. According to my Quantum® schematics that reel was in the Quantum/Browning line up in 1994. I'll bet you cannot get any parts for it... It doesn't look like any Shimano® I ever serviced... Good Luck & Tight Lines!!!
  19. Lets see if I remember right. The A stand for small arbor spool, and the L stands for level wind. So you have a 5600 small arbor level wind reel... As for the date, what is the number sequence stamped on the bottom of the reel foot.. IMO all Garcia® round reels are decent reels, as for upgrades it will depend on what the drag pad part numbers are from the schematic, most likely there are some bearings for the reel depends on whether or not the reel has bearings now or bushings..... 23. When you say finally got around to playing with it. How long? Is it new in the box? If so send it back.. Could be a whole host of things that are binding, or just a couple, or just that you haven't set the reel up and are using the settings as it came out of the box.... 8-) But if it is new and still in warranty (1 yr) I would send it back for replacement or refund.... Good Luck & Tight Lines!!!
  24. BPS is the only company licensed to sell Browning® reels. I would suggest that you contact Outdoor World Rod & Reel Repair. http://www.basspro.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/CFPage?storeId=10151&catalogId=10001&langId=-1&appID=40&option=2 They more or less are the BPS service center, and are authorized Browning service...
