Grass in Pickwick
There definitely was back in April. Unfortunately, I haven't been on Pickwick since then.

Weird Attempt to Fish Yesterday
That is crazy! When the news crew showed up, and asked you if you saw what happened did you give them the Ray Stevens answer? "Yeah, I did. Don't look Ethel!"

I bought a new spinning reel recently, but haven't had a chance to try it out. I had a couple of hours to fish Saturday morning so I headed to the pond. I caught 3 dinks with the new reel on a wacky rigged Yum dinger before I switched to a different setup. I also picked up a new swim jig recently. I caught a fish on the first cast with the new swim jig. I don't remember ever catching a fish on the first cast with a new lure so this one is definitely a keeper. I caught one dink, and two that were a hair under 2 lbs on the swim jig. Anything 2+ is pretty good in this particular pond. My last catch of the day was on a 4.8 Keitech fat. I caught 7 total, and picked up breakfast for the family on my way home. Not a bad way to start a weekend.

Going home with more of the elusive greenbacks than you left with? That’s a nice trick.

Spent a good part of the weekend with the in-laws. Fortunately, it was on the water. While everyone else was catching sun on the pier, I grabbed a rod and started skipping a 3.5 inch Yum Pulse swimbait up under the pier. I was able to catch 4 in about 20 minutes. All carbon copies of the dink in the pic, but it sure beats small talk with the MIL. Just kidding. I have a great MIL, but I couldn't think of a joke about that. ?

Things that make you realize you should be slower to judge others.
I don't consider what you did being rude. You didn't know he was there. A rude jerk knows you're there, and keeps throwing at you. Big difference in that vs what you did. The biggest difference being you actually care. Your post title is something many of us could probably do better.

Best 3000 size spinning reel for $100 or less?
The fuego has a better handle, a better bail, and magseal. Here’s a link where you can do a side by side comparison of the differences. Daiwa Spinning Reels I have a couple of Daiwa Excelers that are very similar to the fuego minus the magseal. They are nice reels for the money. Look around and you can find the regal for under $50, or the Exceler for about $60.

Anybody have any idea what kind of fish this is?

Figuring out the pattern, and landing nice fish like that tends to get a fisherman keyed up. Well done!

I've done a bit of boat fishing lately, but it was back to the bank for me on Saturday. I started out testing a large squarebill that I recently got. It's fairly heavy so it will cast a mile. After I had some fun seeing how far it cast I wanted to see the action. I was walking around on a dock, dragging the lure just under the surface so I could see it, and wham! This little greedy fish jumps out from under the dock and grabs it. The lure is listed at 3.1 inches. The bass probably wasn't much more than 10 inches. It always amazes me what a bass will eat. In the evening the rest of my crew went to a show that I wasn't interested in so I headed to a friend's pond. It was nearly dark by the time I got there, but I wanted to try. I'm not used to fishing after dark, but they were biting so I stayed for a while. Everything was under 2 lbs, but it was fun. Taking pictures of fish in the dark is tough. I tried several times, but never did manage a decent picture. I didn't want to let any of the fish die because I couldn't get them in the frame, so I settled for this one. TX rigged trick worm in junebug with a chartreuse tail was the lure of the evening.

How do ya'll like to rig the rage menace?
TX rig mostly, but they are versatile. They make great trailers too. Green pumpkin, smoky shad, & KVD Magic have been good colors for me.

There were 2 tournaments on Pickwick this weekend, but @roadwarrior & I wanted to fish so we hit the water on Saturday. The day started out with great expectations. It was "fish on" just a few minutes from the ramp, and we had three good fish in the first 30 minutes. The one in the picture below was my best on the day. I got it on a chrome lipless. Unfortunately we didn't notice that the net wasn't in the boat until we caught the first fish. The first fish was small enough for me to flip in the boat, but I wasn't about to try to flip this fish over the rails of a pontoon so I used one of the tips I learned from watching BassResource videos. I got as low as I could, grabbed the line, said a little prayer that it didn't shake the lipless onto my face, and pulled the fish up Glenn May style. It worked! Thanks for the tip @Glenn! Roadwarrior caught a similar sized fish just a few minutes later. I pulled it up the same way. It was a single hook lure so it wasn't as scary as the trebles on the lipless. ? Unfortunately, the fishing went downhill from there. Around 9:30 the wind picked up to a steady 25 mph. That didn't help us, but apparently wind is great for sailing. There were sailboats everywhere. Shortly after that the hoards of pleasure boaters came out to greet the first 80 degree weekend of the year. I don't blame them. It was a beautiful day. It made finding a fishing spot tough though. Pretty much every wind protected area we went to already had a party. If have ever fished with Roadwarrior, you know it's always fun. You're either catching fish, or hearing an interesting story about previous experiences. He worked hard all day navigating the wind, sail boats, jet skis, pleasure cruisers, tourney traffic, and helping me retrieve my lure (which I blame 100% on the wind). ? As always, I appreciate his generosity, and letting me tag along.

I got to fish on Friday, but I'm just now getting to post. We started out throwing fast lures like chatterbaits, lipless, squarebills, etc. We got no takers on riprap, in the creeks, or on grassy flats...other than some pesky white bass, and one hungry little catfish that hit a lipless. That was my first catfish on a lipless. We decided to change gears, and throw jigs, and shaky heads at laydowns. That's when we finally started getting bit. The day started out slow, but ended up pretty good after we made the adjustments. The best one was the spot in the picture. I got her on a green pumpkin jig.
