  1. haha..I do wish my Japan rods would come with the occasional bait-keeper tab. (what do Japanese fishermen do?) I've looked into the Fuji-bait-keeper, but the price tag feels annoying for such a mundane thing. I've seen the one that comes on high end Daiwa Rods from afar. it looks like the Fuji version. I'm bouncing down a jeep trail tomorrow to get to a kayak lake. I already tied up my baits. this was the best I could come up with. form follows function. Pic
  2. I heard he can fling a baseball..and he took to Bow/arrows like a champ after I bought him that one Christmas gift. hahha.. his parents threatened to unfriend us when I offered to buy the kid a used drum set. hahahaha I have a medium steelhead rod coming in the mail. it will be a perfect surf perch rod.. and the occasional striper.
  3. okay, my thread title sucked. my brother bought land in West Texas. I am planning on visiting to shoot a hog for meat, maybe some other hooved creature. help him build a concrete top table with an open fire pit to cook off of. it would be more efficient if I could work my #1 love in as well. gas dont come out of the ground by itself! so I will trailer a pair of kayaks. my own traveling rod and gun club. hahah.. early December. I have a lake near Tucson I want to hit out of nostalgia. and then Elephant Butte lake. maybe with the cheap TX fuel, hit Ivie? it will be cold tho. and we will be on kayaks without FFS. worth the headache that time of year? I know I can find bass here in CA in December but it will be in the high 40's-low 50's. I remember west Texas cold as a witches... like Zeros. maybe just focus on the hunt huh?
  4. silicon tubing Is my move. I can pull a 5" Senko thru my tubing without any tools. it roughens up the worm perfect as it pulls thru..lightens the color, dulls it. I kills em.
  5. Thanks. I’m not famous for my patience. Haha.
  6. Hey. I got really into fishing at Elephant Butte lake. I just Google Brantley a few weeks ago. I’m coming to west Texas this Dec to shoot a hog, and I’m towing two kayaks to explore. I never peg my weights.
  7. Friends rented a place by the beach for several days. We live nearby so we plan on visiting. We work, and they are here during the week, so no overnights for us. They will be very near a great beach. I couldn’t help myself. It’s my g-son. I just ordered a decent steelhead rod/reel for him to learn. He’s 11. Very athletic so I think he’ll pick it up quickly. His mom told him and he’s stoked. Any tips teaching casting skills? A surf perch big enough to eat will be the bonus. and yes, I’ll double triple check he holds the rod/reel in the correct orientation. his mom said when he’s older she’ll buy him a kayak and let him come hang w me. Uncle Darth! The fun uncle.
  8. Right or wrong I use a tiny split-shot.
  9. Round bill? bill lewis.
  10. It’s rare; but I love hearing/reading words for the first time. (now off to look that up)
  11. I had a great presoawn season. I think I tied my PB 3x, or got really close.
  12. Cam straps. No ratchet ones; too easy to go too tight. And just run it in the bed. The tailgate adds support length and you don’t have to lift it as high. Get a red flag. Not just because it’s legal to. You owe it to the person following you. A flag really sends a universal message out.
  13. I just fish. Most of my stuff is green pumpkin. I’m a simple man. I do okay. Medium.
  14. Best shirt in the category in my opinion. You looks good, feel comfortable and don’t look like you’re sponsored. Those tight skin sun shirts are the cycling Lycra of fishing. Hard pass.
  15. Baller! FMJ. wish we were closer so you could fish mine.
  16. All moving baits except deep divers. Is a killer shallow crank rod. It will yank them thru grass. Plus lipless
  17. I want to add one more that killed this late winter --> early spring. the 6" and 8" Zoom Lizard. 6" on a free rig, 8" on a Tex rig. it killed them!! green pumpkin only. lets me honest, it is BROWN.
  18. I LOVE LOVE fishing. I have the gift of sleep. I fish early and I can lay down at 6:00PM and fall asleep fairly easily. so as a result I can usually get enough sleep to enjoy the upcoming day. but the breakfast. I drive 2 hours usually to get to my spots. 2 hours minimum. some lakes and Delta places are further. nothing is open at that hour. Starbucks, nope. I am on my own. I cant/won't eat super early. a 2:30 am breakfast isn't happening. my stomach would rebel, and tell my colon to do bad things to me. so I pack a hot breakfast. leftover rice dish, maybe some stew from dinner, pasta. I take my kayak out of my truck, set it up, and I take a breather and eat a hot breakfast. okay, very warm breakfast. this Stanley cup is decades old and is my MVP. (add in a Korean dinner spoon - if you know, you know), and I eat, burp, and I fish the day and manage with the snacks I Carry on board. I love this thing! Pic
  19. I think you should hit the water much earlier. I fish 5:00 to 1:00or2:00 and most of my action is right when I get out. the fish are in the shallows feeding, and I can feel it in my bones when it changes and they move off deep. there is nothing like a zero dark thirty topwater bite. so dark your distance vision is all janky and you are hoping you dont hit the trees with your favorite topwater bait, because you cant judge the distance accurately.
  20. the X10 line.. glad it is getting some nods. I am struggling to choose my next one. I'll prob choose a spinning rod next.
  21. ^^^. well, you do eat higher off the hog with your fancy boat.
  22. he asked me to pick a blank. holy rabbit hole!!!! that was insane. he wanted me to choose a NorthFork or something, been awhile, I might be remembering it wrong. I did manage to find a blank (on sale) and went with that one. (gah..I cant remember if is went bottom contact or moving baits!!). I tried to choose some components as and to be honest, my brain vapor locked. that is a lot of information out there. I relented and just said, "omakase"...chef's choice. hahah... I admire the hobby, but it was a lot for me to see right away. I suppose you all build to the same flavor? or you vary wildly?
  23. you know I'm a fan. it even more important now that summer is here. i keep the fish in the water, while I gather my "S". I have it permanently tied to my kayak, and I just roll it up and stuff it into a side pocket. I haven't found any comparable substitute. the OG version is the way to go. it is fairly long. I can stand up and still have the fish attached. I also ordered an extra clip, and use it on my fish scale. I'm on my third kayak, and the leash is the same one..gets moved to the new boat.
