  1. Susquehanna River near Port Deposit. It's below the Conowingo Dam and above the Flats in Havre de Grace. There's a small boat ramp in Lapidum (on your side of the river). I've never used the ramp but I think it's probably good for your boat.
  2. The bunks on my aluminum Ranger RT178 trailer are going bad. The existing bunks are 102". I'm considering the Supreme Ultimate Bunk Boards which come in 107" and 95" lengths (about $100 difference). Is it OK to get boards that are slightly shorter than the ones on the trailer as long as they will install on the supports?
  3. Congratulations. Vizslas are great looking dogs.
  4. I am so sorry for your loss. I think about this type of thing a lot. Your words were inspiring.
  5. Haven't seen that one in a long time.
  6. I added several piles of boulders, milk crate structures, PVC 'trees' and some 30 gallon poly barrels (lids and bottoms removed) bolted together. I could do this pretty easily before the pond refilled. The bass and bluegill feed off of each other's offspring. I got most of my info and advice from pondboss.com
  7. I have a 2 acre pond that I had drained and rebuilt almost 20 years ago. When it refilled I stocked it with largemouth and bluegill fingerlings along with a lot of fathead minnows. The minnows bred like rats and provided a lot of food for the small fish. Since the fatheads are slow they got eaten quickly. Start with smaller fish, feed them and you'd be surprised how fast the bass and bluegill grow.
  8. How big is the pond? I was under the impression that if the body of water was under 10 acres it would get overrun with crappie.
  9. As of this morning, with less than 10 games left, the National League has 4 teams that are guaranteed a playoff spot with the Phillies the only team that has won their division. No team in the the American League has clinched a spot yet.
  10. Interesting. Which powered transfer pump do you use?
  11. 5 gallon gas cans? Marina? Gas station while boat is on the trailer? Most times I use 5 gallon gas cans while boat is at home. Not a fan of doing that but I don't refuel that often.
  12. I wound up splaying each of the 3 blades outward just a bit. Seems to have done the trick. The connection is much tighter than before and doesn't wobble at all. Easy fix. Thanks Tom.

    Got it.
  14. Thanks Tom. I was thinking of doing that as it's something I have done with household plugs. The plug I have is the twist lock and not the pin type.
  15. The o-ring makes the plug fit snugly in the receptacle. I will probably replace both male and female connections. Seems simple enough.
  16. I have a 24v Minn-Kota Ultrex. The 3-pronged plug has become loose and sometimes the motor shuts off. I noticed the o-ring was missing so I replaced it. Didn't help. I tried a slightly thicker o-ring and the plug wouldn't fit. Any thoughts?
  17. I thought the same when I bought my RT178. The trailer leaf spring broke 2 months ago. Trailer repair shop was very surprised Ranger didn't use triple leaf springs.
  18. I have an Exmark 60" zero turn to cut our grass and pastures. Great mower. I've put over 1,500 hours on it since I bought it 12 years ago. The heat, rain and really high humidity has the grass and weeds growing like crazy this year. Feels like I'm constantly cutting grass.
  19. Absolutely! I do the same!
  20. Boiled. No salt, no butter.
  21. I have a 24 volt Ultrex trolling motor. The last time I was fishing the motor seemed to lack its usual pep. I got a digital battery tester and one of the batteries was at 10% health. The other was 72%. This is the 5th season I am using them. Should I just replace them both? Or is the one battery good for this season?

I do not. Bass fishing before June 15th in that part of NY is not allowed - even catch and release. We didn't know that the first tear we went. So we target pike, crappie and anything else that bites. We do catch a lot of accidental bass but don't want them out of the water to take pics.

Black Lake. Been going there for 14 years. Repair place was really surprised the trailer was only equipped with single leaf springs. It's not a heavy boat but I didn't want to go through that again so I got the triple springs. They were not expensive.

A few weeks ago, I made my annual trip to upstate NY to meet my brother-in-law for a week of fishing. Trip normally takes me about 7 hours. About ½ way into the drive close to the PA/NY border – BAM! I see a lot of white smoke in the rearview mirror. Pull over immediately to find one of the leaf springs on the boat trailer snapped. It was Sunday late morning and it took me several phone calls to find a tow company to rescue me and fix the trailer - maybe. After a 2 hour wait, he arrived and loaded the boat and trailer on his flatbed and we went to his shop. Turns out he had a used leaf spring that he could put on. I didn’t have many options so I said do it. 90 minutes later I was on my way. I got lucky. 90 minutes later on I-81 near Syracuse, NY – BAM! White smoke! Same stinking thing happened! What are the odds?!?! Now it’s 4:30 on a Sunday afternoon, raining a bit and getting colder. I called at least 10 tow companies and only 1 answered. After a 2 hour wait, he arrived and loaded the boat/trailer on his flatbed. Tow company was great and kept my boat on his flatbed in their fenced in yard overnight – no charge. He told me there’s a great trailer shop in town that could definitely fix it in the morning. First thing next morning I went to the trailer shop. They had everything needed in stock and would try to get to it soon. 3 hours later I had new triple leaf springs (trailer only had single) and a new wheel bearing (1 was bad). I was finally on my way. So, after paying almost $1,500 for 2 tows, 2 repairs and 1 hotel room I arrived at my destination – 30 hours after leaving. At least the fishing was good.
