Any Pelican Bass Raider Owners Out There?
I inherited another BR last fall, an 8’er. It sat in my neighbors yard for something like 4 years, full of sludge. Took 4 to break it loose from the muck it was in, dragged it home with the mower, pulled the plugs and the rod holders, tipped it over to drain (it the rod holder holes), then stood it on end, drains down, for the winter. The pontoons were pretty much full when I started. I was pleasantly surprised to find it only weighed 5 lbs more than what Pelican says it weighed when new. Best I can tell the floatation isn’t water logged, even when full of water for years. It seems to float and motor around no problem although I have yet to try fishing out of it.

Rainwater collection - anyone do it?
I have in the past, I found 2 50 gal barrels was no where near enough. For drip irrigation, which I use for 6 scattered garden plots, needs some pressure to work, my lowest are 10 psi, you may need to run a pump. just a guess, but I probably use 3 or 400 gallons to water 700 sq’ of veggies. I could measure it if you really want to know. I have one of these. Water meter

Best style kayak anchor
After losing 2 anchors to underwater roots, I made 2 lengths of 1.5” pvc pipe filled with bird shot, 3.5 and 7 lbs, with stainless eye bolts on one end. The 3.5 is good for slight breezes, like this morning. The 7 for over 5 mph, roughly. On occasion I take along both, but usually I go by how much wind when launching or forecast. Been using them for 15 or 20 years, much better then the mushrooms. At times the wind will still move me along a bit, but it’s manageable.

Favorite blade/pocket knife/multi-tool? What do you carry?
2 Swiss Army Knives, the Classic on my keys, and a Tinker when I want something bigger, both red. Been carrying a Tinker for 30ish years cause it has a Philips. Flew a couple weeks ago and forget about the Classic, had to buy another when I got back. That’s the 2nd time I’ve had to sacrifice a knife.

How heavy of a rain will you fish in?
I’ll go out in a light rain, but won’t if it’s any more than that. I have been out in all sorts of rain, anything more then light seems to turn off the bite in the shallow ponds I fish. I have however had great luck as soon as a heavy rain stops. on occasion I’ve brought along and used the umbrella I keep in the truck, being in a canoe, it works if waiting out a short burst, not that one can fish holding an umbrella.

Your shore/canoe/bass boat rankings
I haven’t freshwater shore fished for bass, streams for trout I’d give myself a 2. Saltwater shore fishing I’d go with a 7. Canoe, somewhere in the top range, no idea what I could improve. Bass boat, for me it’s the Bass Raider pontoon thing I picked up a couple years ago. I’d rate me a 3 as I much prefer the canoe unless one of the grandkids are along. It is more comfortable then the canoe for long term but you can’t sneak up, as far as I’m concerned the trolling motor scares off some of the fish.

Calculating run time on an 18ah battery
a little digging shows a 12v lithium goes below 12v starting at the 10% level, so depending on the devices low voltage cutoff, you should get about 6.5 hrs

Truck Question
I had my 2012 done at 50k, then at 115k a few weeks back, I had a camper I pulled with it. My longtime mechanic just drops the pan as yours suggests. I didn’t know there was such a thing as flushing the tranny.

Trolling Motor and LiFePO4 Battery Connection
I did as MN Fisher shows. Leave a pig tail permanently attached with 50A Power Poles. I soldered mine on and added a fuse/breaker on the battery side. You can get off brand a bit cheaper off Amazon, not that they are big $.

Navigating this site
Just tried it, NEXT, either at the top or bottom of the page, brings me to the top of the next page. Might be worth trying to clear cache, seems to fix a multitude of problems.

MH Spinning Rod Users ?
My MH comes out once the weeds start to thicken up, same time the ML gets put away. It gets heavier baits then I use on the M’s but lighter then I use the baitcasters for. For the most art bigger plastics. Put on HI Vis yellow in 15 lb late last year, after using it thru the spring I removed it and went back to dark green 832. It could well just be a lack of confidence in the yellow, but it sure felt like I caught less with it so off it went. If it matters, I use leaders if there are pickerel in the pond.

Landscaping Projects
We end up on water restrictions every summer, like now. Completely killed my lawn a few years ago, eit’s finally starting to look okay again, and now another restriction. I’ve given up on it other then a couple applications of fertilizer. a few of my neighbors have had an artesian well put in as the restriction is just for city water.

Step up from the SLX XT
Thanks all, now all I need is for Bass Pro to get in some mid speed, even TW shows an October date. Oh well, no hurry.

Step up from the SLX XT
I need a new reel and have gift cards for Bass Pro so I’d like to keep it in the $200 range. I’m partial to Shimano so I’m thinking one of the Curado’s as I have an SLX XT. The question is which Curado is a step up from the SLX. All my reels are general purpose in my mind, the baitcasters being for heavier lures, spinner baits, jigs, and so forth in what ends up fairly heavy weeds. This will be used on a SC 6’6” MH Premier rod if it matters with either 20 or 30 lb braid. fwiw, Bass Pro does not show the SLX XT so I couldn’t get another if I wanted too.

Cigars....
The only time I smoke cigars is when I’m fishing, started to keep the bugs at bay but now I just enjoy a long slow smoke. After trying quite a few I settled on the Romeo y Julieta Reserva Real in Corona size. The size affects how much smoke you get, thinner for less, fatter for more. A Get A Grip clip and cheap torch Lighter are a must when fishing. I prefer a punch to a cutter. I use one of the metal cigar tubes for transport in my tackle bag, you can get them to fit if you order a few of the Verona Tubo cigars (Same cigars, just in a tube), and recycle the tube. Here in Ma, taxes are terrible on cigars, they can be had a lot cheaper on the internet. I found ordering a couple each of several types, brands, and sizes a decent way to try different ones. The Macanudo Hampton Court is a mild one, you can also get them in. Tubo. I used to use the Golds when I fist started, just kind of a hassle to find.

Have You Ever Caught A Snapping Turtle...??
Thanks, didn’t know that about the tails. The one I’ve stopped to move off the road I did by the tail. If I ever encounter another it’ll be on it’s own. Heavy suckers.

Where do you rank on the Angling Tech Scale (ATS) and why?
If a shore fisher is a 1, and a Kevlar canoe and Carbon paddle is a 3,then my self made wood canoe and paddle make me a 2. The closest I come to tech is my phone, that’s doesn’t work where I fish other then my 1 or 2 pictures a year. My truck doesn’t count.

Propane Tanks; Exchange or Refill?
I used a Blue Rhino tank earlier this year for the first time after my 2 aged out, I was amazed at how old and beat up the tanks are. It did feel like the bottle went mt faster then normal but no idea if that impression is a fact. I went out and bought a new one, no more Blue Rhino’s for me.

Harvesting Bass
When I first started bass fishing I kept a few, roughly 2 lb’ers. To me it’s not worth the hassle for the flavor one gets, we prefer saltwater fish. It’s just too easy to stop at the grocer and buy a pound of whatever so I’ve released everything I catch since. i have no problem with what anyone else keeps, no moral crusader here.

Definition of a skunk.
If I get a good fish on but it gets off just before I get it in the boat, is that a caught fish?

Bob Baffert from San Antonio TX
Welcome to the forum Bob, got to spend a memorable 6 weeks in SA back in 77.

Where have you caught them so far?
The edges and among weeds that have yet to emerge, the biggest in about 5’ of water. In the shallows, weeds or not, it’s dinks and small pickerel. The water is still pretty cold up in the hills. By far, cloudy skies, water is just too clear.
