Vehicle Recommendations for Bank/Kayak Angler
While I use a full size truck with an 8’ bed for fishing, given your post I’d suggest the SUV. We have a CR-V too, it’s quite a decent vehicle, I could see easily getting a yak up on a roof rack. Fairly decent clearance and AWD, add some better rubber and it’ll probably go anywhere you want. With the rear seats down you can fit at least 7’ rods inside, I’d have to measure for longer. Just the other day I was thinking about adding rails and a rack to ours as the truck at 13 is getting long in the tooth and I’m not psyched to spend $50k to replace it. Heck, I can do that and buy a new Lexus for the wife for what a truck will cost me.

Why not more canoeists?
Kayaks were for fast water and the ocean when I built my canoes, I’ve had no reason to look at a kayak as what I have fits my style perfectly. As I recall kayaks took off when the first plastic one came out, now that they have as much electronics as a bass boat they are much cooler than a plain Jane canoe. I can see why folks get them, just not for me.

Coming at you all.

Black, no sugar and no cream!
When Costco started to taste like dirt I bought a box of Peet’s as I had read good reviews on it, my wife pointed to the Major Dickinson as it was the dark roast. Much better than the Kirkland so we stuck to it. It’s not like I tried a bunch and picked it as my favorite. i do prefer the local roasted Sumatra for pour over, the K cups are just too easy so they win out most of the time.

Black, no sugar and no cream!
I fish about an hour from home with nowhere to stop for coffee along the route. I carry a PocketRocket, canteen cup, and instant in the truck during fishing season. It’s kind of nice sitting on the tailgate making a cup before heading home. Used to carry the kit on long hikes, now it’s for fishing.

Do you service your reels?
The last couple years I’ve been sending 2 or 3 off to DVT each winter for professional cleaning and do the rest myself. The plan is cycling thru them all every couple years, I only really use 5 of them enough to warrant sending off. I do occasionally end up with an extra spool washer. Got to be pretty careful keeping track of what goes where and in what order.

That’s it, no more yard work.

storage for winter batteries
I’ve got a couple NOCO chargers and have no complaints. The one above is nice cause it’ll maintain lithiums too, if ever needed. You do have to chose the battery type, at least the first time.

Bloody Shimano!
Until I started hanging out here I had no idea the bail was supposed to be closed by hand. 50+ years to find that one out.

Bloody Shimano!
I can’t say it happens to me now but it has happened in the past. I long ago adapted where I open the bail, mostly cause I used to close the bail by cranking on the handle as opposed to by hand, if you have it open at the wrong spot it’s hard to crank, at least on the lower end reels I used to use. I don’t recall encountering either issue on the better reels.

storage for winter batteries
I must of mistaken your location for his, my oops.

storage for winter batteries
If it’s the end of the season in TN I’d top,off the charge and disconnect. If you have a trickle charger/maintainer you can just leave it on if you have ac where you store the boat.

storage for winter batteries
In the camper I would charge them completely then disconnect. 100% charged won’t freeze. Or you can lug them inside. Mid winter I’d hook them up to the charger again but they never really needed it. Fully charged is the key.

Spinning Gear Line
I use 12 on my Med gear and 20 on the MH for heavy weeds. A leader depends on if I’m fishing in Pickerel waters, I have 12 and 20 lb, none if not.

Black, no sugar and no cream!
At home it’s Pete’s Major Dickason’s, and yes, I’m doing my part to fill the landfills, I use K pods. When traveling we do a local dark roast via pour over. Makes it interesting to hunt down a local roaster and see what they suggest, at least in the US. Growing up on Dunkin Donuts coffee I’ve never acquired a taste for Starpukes. My favorite is cold brewed, using Sumatra beans, but it’s more work then I care to do these days.

Quick spinnerbait poll...
I’m another Always, but after seeing this thread I’m going to try without.

Outboard Restrictions
I use the same one on the Bass Raider, not perfect but darn close.

How Do You Break All Those Rods?
I broke a SC ML 2pc spinning rod three times. 1st time I dropped the anchor on it (behind me in the canoe), SC replaced the tip, which broke a year later in the door, SC again replaced the tip but charged me. A couple years ago I pulled it from behind me to use, casted it, and the tip snapped, guess I crushed it behind me again. SC no longer has parts for it, it was roughly 15 or 20 years old. of all the rods I carry, all in the same place, the ML is the only one I’ve had issues with. As it’s jinxed, it’s going to be replaced with a different brand. Broke the very tip on a SC Inshore. Found it that way when we checked into a rental in Georgia after a month on the road. A local shop trimmed the rod a bit and put on a replacement tip guide.

Which partner would you pick?
I’m with you guys, except it’d be with my brother. I’d even take sitting on the shore.

Anybody watching college football today?
I watched most of the Georgia game, called it a night at 27-13 with 5 min left figuring it was a lost cause, 8 OT’s later the Bulldogs actually won. I read it was over 4 hrs, the longest in sec history. The Michigan game was fun, always nice to see the underdogs win.

Doing your business on the water (#1 and #2...)
Can’t stand or pee over the side in my canoe so I do like the truckers and use a bottle of some sort, that’s hard enough. No choice but head for shore for anything else. Don’t recall bass fishing anywhere that had for real toilets.

2,044 bass: The Good Place and The Good Life
I’m impressed, as much by the number as by the fact you kept track all year.

Thursday night football
If anyone’s curious, I did not notice the issue this past Thursday. Time will tell.

Outboard Restrictions
Something along the lines of a Pelican Bass Raider w/trolling motor. Small so they are manageable, sturdy so you can easily stand, fairly light @ about 100 lbs. Trolling motors are pretty slow, limits your range. Lithium batteries are light enough to move at about 30 lbs for a full size, about half a flooded.

Storing rods.
Maybe see if home owners will cover their worth if in the shed. Is there power in the buildings?
