frog rod
not always true .. i find longer sticks tend to be slugish on hooksets ... ive used 2 different frog rods longer than 7ft bolth had issues setting the hook on that quick bite ... also the more i fish a frog i found out how important it is to hit precise spots with the frog ,, the 7ft rod will be more accurate ... for my frogging there is one rod ... the st croix LTB slop n frog rod ,,, this rod is 7ft heavy fast ... dont ever be fooled the LTB is a beast ... it preformes above and beyond in almost every froging situtation ... crisp fast hooksets or those fast bites ,,,, rock solid power throughout ... for get about what the rod looks like or even that is says st croix on it ,,, the ltb slop n frog does just that and does it well ... ive put mine through the paces it has handled everything exactly like it should ... if you fish frogs alot there is no need for any other rod ... I, along with many others, are far more accurate with a 7'6 then a 7, and I know a few guys who can cast on a dime with a 6ft rod. It's all about comfort for the user. Anyone can get good with any length. Having said that, I make long casts with frogs, and having the extra 6 inches is the difference between hooking the fish and not. I have proven it time and time again. As for sluggish, maybe it just takes some time getting used to, or getting a less tip heavy rod. Sometimes it's better to wait a second before setting with frogs anyway ;D Get what you feel most comfortable with, but these are all things to think of before buying the rod.

MS Slammer
I caught 3 and 4lb fish on the 9" I bought from Brokeju. I dont think I was sacrificing bites at all while using the bigger bait. Two of the fish were caught in RI if that helps you out. Glad you're stickin fish on it bro! Congrats. Where's the 10lber !?

MS Slammer
When fishing swimbaits, you typically dont' care as much about the 3-4lb fish.. You're after the larger fish in the lake. So I wouldn't be too concerned about that. I've caught quite a 3-4lbers on the 9. I've caught 2lbers on 8" swimbaits. So it does happen, but I'd still go with the 9 regardless of water I'm fishing. As for color, and joints, go with what you have the most confidence in. If you're serious about it, you're going to be throwing it a lot, and it's tough to consistently throw it when you lack confidence .

frog rod
Not sure why you want a rod shorter then 7'2. Maybe you fish frogs real close, but I've noticed a HUGE difference in my hook up rate switching from a 7ft to a 7'6 rod for frogs. Long casts, especially in junk, longer and stiffer rod has helped me a lot. I use a Dobyns 766 for frogs, and absolutely love it. I pulled an 8.4 out of a ton of junk with ease, along with numerous 7's.

Fluorocarbon Lines
Seagur Invisx - Good for leader material, but when you spool the entire spool with it, you can feel it stretches more then any other fluoro I've used. Feels like mono. PLine fluoro - This was my go to flouro for 6 months , it was the only thing I fished. 15lb 17lb and 20 lb. It has very little stretch, but does break. 15 and 17lb test has broke numerous times, setting the hook too hard causes problems, doesn't absorb any shock. Trilene 100% fluoro - My new favorite. By far the most manageable fluorocarbon, little stretch (feels just perfect), and I haven't broken off yet. I've only been fishing with the 20lb and it's manageable when fishing 1/2oz jigs. Specifically for drop shotting, depending on the lake, 6 - 8lb trilene fluoro should do the trick very well, as I said, for me, it's been very manageable compared to others (even in the 20lb range)

Neighborhood lake finally delivers a big one. pic!
That's a mighty nice fish, but from the picture, doesn't look like she'd go quite 10. Did you get measurements? She's long but looks pretty thin . I'd say 8-9.

spiderwire g-string vs p-line cxx for swimbaits ???
After seeing a 5lber snap new 15lb CXX this past weekend in a tournament, I've lost confidence in CXX for anything but swimbaits. 30lb CXX for me.

G blank, Powell, Kistler, Shimano, Falcon, E21, American Rodsmiths, and more?
I've used Powell, Crucial, Gblanks, and held the Kistler and Carrot Stix. The Carrot would be a definite no. The guides alone kill it for me. The Powell and Crucial are both decent rods, as is the Kistler. Personally, I liked my 6'10 MH GBlanks rod more then any of the others, hands down. It was light, sensitive, and very easy to fish with all day. Not to mention Larry is an awesome dude. You can also pick the color of your wraps and customize a few of the things. Goodluck.

question for you Dobyns owners
I fish my 1/4oz and 3/8oz jigs on my 734 Extreme , I fish 1/2oz and 3/4oz on my 765. Both are great rods, and I definitely prefer the longer rods. But the 704 and 705 are both very good as well. There is definitely a difference between the Champion and Extreme series, so if money isn't much of an issue, definitely grab the Extreme

Finally got out, one decent frog fish
Best of luck breaking that 7-2 mark. That was my exact PB for about 6 months until this past March. I've sense broken it 9 times. The big girls come when you least expect them to, or at least that's how it's happened for me.

Finally got out, one decent frog fish
Haven't been fishing all too much lately, but went pre-fishing for my tournament this weekend. Slow day, but did manage this 8-4 on a frog. Picture does not due this fish any justice, fattest fish I have caught in quite some time.

10lb club... Need Suggestions
The 3 states that come to mind are California, Texas, and Florida. Don't come expecting a 10lber though, no one can promise you one, and only a week of fishing.... The odds are against you.

Who says pigs can't be caught dropshotting?

MOVING DOWN TO SHORTER ROD!
I'd really suggest re thinking getting a shorter rod... I lug around 5 rods , all over which are over 7'3, and up to 8fters. It's really not that tough... Casting distance is more of an issue from shore, a longer rod helps me get the bait out there, and also gives me leverage fighting a fish back to shore.

four or five pounder
Jig fish are always something to be proud of, regardless of size, fish looks about 2 1/2lbs.
-
Is this a good jig setup?
Too short, line is too small, rod has the wrong action (better suited for crankbaits), get a Heavy or Medium Heavy power.
-
WOW STEVE LANDED THE BIGGEST SMALLIE I EVER SAW FROM A LAKE
Cut two pieces of line from one of your reels, use one to measure the length, and one to measure the girth. Get home, and measure the line! I've had to do that a few times.

Revo STX
This is the same as Daiwa vs Shimano, you'll have a ton of guys on each side. I prefer my STXs over the Curado B and D and every other reel I've used. I can't say about the E though.

You can only bring three rods, what do you bring?
