Caught some good fish finally with the new custom ALX and caught a surprise big fish with the Old 18 UUL I got for Christmas. I was using 2 lb Daiwa Samurai J-fluoro which I think might be my new favorite line to use for BFS

What was or is your favorite baitcating reel?
Bantam Bass One Mag It's the one that started it all for me. My dad bought me one after I caught my first bass with a lure.... Or it was because he was tired of me tearing up all the Micky mouse spincast reels I used. I caught tons of bass with it till I broke it catching Stripers at the Lake Texoma dam.

Different brand/style of line on different rod/reel setups?
When I was little my dad was a Stren guy so all we used was Stren in various LBs. I never tried anything else because that's what my dad wanted to stick with. Then when I got older and started looking online and seeing all the different brands I started trying new stuff. I use mostly Sunline as my main line. Then try out other lines just to see if I might like it. There's so many lines sometimes I try something new just to realize I had tried it a few years before.

New to BFS, found the reel, what rod and line?
Could check out old 18. They have a UL and L in different price categories. They also have slower actions. I have a small batch Authentic UUL and plan to get more

TFO Taction Rods
Sorry no experience yet with the taction but was curious about what was wrong with the resolve reel seat? I was thinking about trying one. I use some of their lower end rods like the signature series and the older GTS

Do you switch hands when you cast a baitcaster?
That's when we started doing the "pump and dump" (i_fish called it that in a video about the lews gx3). We never did that kind of fishing before so we learned as we went and blew all the gears out of all our regular bass gear except for our red 5500 ambassador. But even then if I don't catch anything I would still be burning the reel in with a 2 ounce weight and a whole frozen bluegill helicoptering.

Do you switch hands when you cast a baitcaster?
I'll switch hands all day to palm the reel and crank with my right. I even switch handles on spinning gear to keep things consistent. Everyone has their own experiences. I was little in the mid 90s when the OK side of the texoma dam was open for a whole summer. That was the toughest fishing I've ever done. There's no way I could have made it all day using my left hand to crank stripers in through the current. Hook the fish, hold the butt of the rod against your chest using your whole body as leverage, then cranking them in with the right hand.

New Daiwa Tatula Elite Spinning reel
I don't know if this is different from the original LT but the hook up tackle says they downsized the body. 2000 body with 2500 spool and rotor, 2500 body with 3000 spool, and 3000 with 4000 spool and rotor. Edit: but if they did that why are the weights the same or a little more

Could You Make Do With Only One Rod...??
Beater rods kind of fit in this category. My beater rod can get the job done. I even caught my PB on it. 7 ft M inshore lite. Cheap design to make it a M power. Whippy tip with a backbone that doesn't flex much at all. But the cheap design makes it feel like a tuning fork. The whippy tip allows for casting light lures like a quarter ounce crank and drop shot rig and the solid backbone allows heavy baits like weighted swim baits. I've even used it for catfish using circle hooks and cut bait. Caught my PB bass on a quarter ounce crankbait with it. It used to always be in my car while I was at work. So it got all the opportunities to catch fish. So I have to make a conscious effort to use my nicer gear so they don't gather dust.

Gamma Edge Fluoro worth the price?
Have you compared it to Tatsu? I just picked up some Gamma touch 4 lb to try on my SS Air. I was surprised to see it was almost as thin as 2 lb line but then I was also surprised to see it was almost $20 for only 100 yds putting it in price range with Tatsu.

What is Your “Cadillac” Reel?
Bantam. I have one on a LTB 7'4 H that I use for reaction baits and horny toads. There's something magical about it that keeps me turning the handle. I'll tell myself "Ok one more cast and then I have to go". Then I'll tell myself the same thing one hour later.

13 Fishing Meta
Has anyone went to look up 13 fishing's website lately? I think I figured out why the new widow maker rods disappeared. 13 fishing shows up under Rapala now. I guess they bought them.

What a good drop shot rod under 100$ ?
I used to use one of the older generation ugly stik inshore lites. It was actually pretty good with trick worms. 7 ft M Ugly stik inshore lite and a 6 ft M Lightning rod shock. Best beater rod pairing. Zoom finesse worm on the lightning rod shock and a trick worms on the trick worm.

I haven't had a chance to try it out. The rod arrived the day before my shift started so I've been working. I'll finally have a chance tomorrow. I'm not sure if it'll affect my grip during hook set because I use the palm/spider grip.

Ordered a custom ALX rod and it just showed up. I requested to have one of their spinning rod models made into a casting rod. 7 ft L+ Trickster. Rated 1/16 - 1/2. I'm hoping this would be a versatile rod to pair with my Metanium Shallow spool. I saw on their custom section of the site they had carbon grips so of course I had to order carbon grips.

Is a 6’10 medium rod with a size 2000 reel good for drop shot ?
M power spinning rod works fine for drop shot as long as you adapt to it fine. I kind of feel like ML was the old school power to use back in the day to avoid ripping light wire hooks out like the gamakatsu split shot hook. But now with more specific drop shot hooks, like owner mosquito and Aaron martens gamakatsu hooks, they're heavier gauged hooks that might not rip out as easy. I started with a 6 ft M lightning shock rod and now I use a M 6'8 st croix avid walleye rod. If I use a gamakatsu split/drop shot hook I don't set the hook, I reel into it. Then I keep the drag loose to compensate for not having a ML. Then if I use one of the heavier drop shot hooks I set the hook and not really worry about pulling the hook. I actually prefer a M tip rod for certain situations when I'm working the bait. I'll lift the rod up till I can feel the weight then either shake it a little or dead stick it. With ML I have problems lifting the tip and accidentally moving the weight. Then also with the heavier gauged hooks I can set the hook a little better with the M power. I've tried ML rods after the lightning shock and I just didn't like them so I went back to a M. Edit: you can also tune the Aaron martens drop shot hooks. They come with the tip angled for setting the hook hard. You can bend the tip to match the split/drop shot hook and then you don't have to set the hook anymore, you can just reel into the same way

BFS rod length
I'm planning to get a 7'4 for bombing micro swimbaits/underspins. I also found a small bfs version of the flashy swimmer that I've been trying out and it works great. Zappu Bredy

Feedback Requested - St. Croix Legend Tournament Series
I have the 7'4 H also, that's a good way to describe it, total combat rod. I use mine mostly as a heavy reaction bait rod. I might also try "light" swimbaits this spring with it.
- Need bfs rod recommendations

Daiwa Zillion TW SV vs. Shimano Metanium
Don't do it! Just get the one you always wanted first or you'll end up with all three like I did. I wanted to get the Bantam after they brought back the name because I had one of the old ones when I was little. But I got a zillion first because of the pricing. Then when I was about to get the Bantam I saw there was a JDM shallow spool Met and I got that instead. Then I was like I still want the bantam so I got that. The bait monkey sure works in mysterious ways. All jokes aside they're both great with different strengths. I retyped this like 10 times because I like all three so much I couldn't decide which one to recommend lol

Need help in choosing a 1000 size spinning reel
That SC rod is on my list of rods to get. The reel I'm planning for is the new 23 Legalis. I don't think it's out in the US yet but you can get it on digitaka. They upgraded the new Legalis with a screw in handle and 10 grams lighter rotor. I_fish on YouTube already has videos on it and a how to video for upgrading the line guide bearing. If you don't want to order a JDM reel the 23 exceler and Fuego are already out in the US.
