So coming from the musky world. The talk of delayed mortality is always brought up. Just because a fish swims away does not mean it stays living. So in theory yes he released those fish. It does not mean 4 hours later they did not die. Look how long a panfish stays alive hooked in its back catfishing. It is also worth noting not every single dead fish floats to the top. Without radio tracking they do not know for sure how many of those fish had delayed mortality. Which is what they did in the musky studies. Either way nothing was proved or disproved in these videos. All it proved is live scope works.

In pa you have to get petitions signed and then they have to find federal grant money to make improvements to ramps, waterways, etc. just makes you wonder where all the millions of dollars it generates a year really goes. I don’t argue it’s a bang for buck costs but, that is what is what people gripe about. Especially when every couple years they talk about raising fishing licenses just to pay for state workers pensions. Ones that have nothing to do with fishing.

I used to drag my butt out as long as the air temps were above 32. My first mate (Dog) can’t go out in that so I do not go. As much as I love going out as much as I can. The fishing just really isn’t worth it. Working overtime it will be. If we do get a mid 50s day again I may just take the boat out for my sanity.

I have two tranx 500 for musky. Bullet proof workhorses that are well worth the money. One on an 9’ assault stick shock and awe the other on a st croix big dawg legend tournament. I run 80lb cortland masterbraid.

Our agreement pretty much is the weekends she doesn’t work I do not fish. After that it’s free game. Even some of those weekends her and I might go if the weather is perfect. She is not into fishing though. I also am lucky that our “vacations” are pretty much just to a cabin at a lake somewhere so I can fish. She likes the get away. we were married 2 weeks she said well I have everything I have been wanting you can go buy the boat you want. She knows me going fishing is a very important factor in the happiness of our relationship. keep her happy and she’ll keep you fishing

Since the holidays are over and there was lots of online ordering to be had. I thought the shipping speed and order fulfillment from most places was very good. I had packages arrive early or on time. None were ever late. Whether it was USPS, UPS, fed ex. Did anyone else have the same results? Was I just lucky?

@Catt I know that’s is what I am trying to say. I am agreeing with you. Regardless of my personal opinion is on it.

@Catt I am just saying in the right hands it’s deadly. For your average weekend warrior it helps but, it’s not to the extent like him. Most people won’t go out and crush it just because they have it.

@Catt I do not use it and do not want to use it. Most serious anglers here use it. There is a huge gape here. Either a tin boat with no electronics at all or a boat completely decked out. I am the minority with some minor electronics and GPS. Josh jones it s a prime example of what FFS in the right hands can do. He barely caught any DD bass learned FFS now he catches 100 a year. I am realistic in saying most people use it it helps them catch more fish but, it’s not the game changer it was for someone like him. Again as much as I hate the fact there is FFS it’s here to stay unless there is laws made about it. It will be just like those die hard 2 stroke motocross guys. They have their few 2 stroke only races a year the rest of the time it’s 2 and 4 mixed. If you want to fish tournaments know that’s what you’re going up against take it or leave it. I am interested in doing a couple tournaments a year. I am looking at ones that are more charitable. Toys for tots etc. at least I can feel better some of my entry fee is going to that. I know what I’m up against and I’d be pretty darn proud placing in the money without FFS.

@Choporoz it’s d**n scary in a boat too. I think fog is probably the most dangerous condition that people shrug off.

Fog is no joke. Even with gps there is times I have waited at the launch till it burned off a bit. Gps doesn’t tell you about floating debris, and other boats.

@gimruisI don’t understand how fishing can be more important than someone’s life or limb. There is plenty of times I’ve looked at a really sketchy area with my dad and said well I am sure I go get to that area in my boat but, you can’t tell me the fishing is that much better there to risk my boat. As mentioned above people get slaps on the wrists for things too. Maybe if you get caught with out a life jacket your fishing license and launch permit/registration get suspended for a year. Next time it’s two years and a bigger fine. i am one of the few people I see wearing a life jacket while running a boat in the river. I have a routine. Start my motor, pull my trolling motor hold position with the motor till I get my life jacket on than hammer down. My kill switch lanyard is attached to my life jacket. it sucks to see things that could have possibly been prevented happen. When people ask me about the river I always give them a disclaimer about no matter what you have to be on your toes. There are also people I down right tell them do not take that boat there. The one thing I have set up in my phone is that my wife can see where I am at gps wise. Just incase the worst happens. I always send her the boat ramp I’m starting at as well. At least god forbid there is a starting point.

I don’t zig and zag. I flip than I flop. Everyone “crushes” fish when you aren’t in the boat with them. I’ve been told it’s been called junk fishing but i will stay in an area and kind of throw the book at it till it produces or it doesn’t. Sometimes people just have that special wiggle to their rod that day and crush them. You can do the exact same thing next to them and not have the same results.

Whether this is true or not I don’t know but it does make sense. You want to go to gas stations that are busy. Not Jim bobs garage where the gas will sit a lot longer.

Great write up thank you for posting it! I had to do meet and greet, home inspection, criminal/ child abuse background checks. They also contacted my references. I would also like to add which I experienced when you rescue a dog it may look more like this or that breed. Without a DNA test it is only speculation and as @A-Jay pointed out breed characteristics are very real.
