Trucker hats
I've worn ball caps most all of my 75 years except the last 2 or 3, i've developed some sores on top of my bald head that come and go and are sore with a ball cap on top.Nowadays I usually just pull up my hoodie.

I often give my hooks the fingernail test and resharpen if needed.

Naive question - What is the machine called that is used to "roll" a rod as you apply epoxy/thread ?
I have always called those rod dryer things rotisseries because my first one was rigged from an old BBQ rotisserie.

What have you forgotten?
I usually leave my boat trailer hooked to my truck all weekend. A couple months ago on a Monday morning I forgot to unhook it and got halfway to work before I realized there was my boat behind me. I thought about playing hooky and going fishing (a sign you know) but I had taken all my tackle out the night before.

School me on home spun Beetle Spins
Hildebrandt jig spinners are much better quality than the cheap ones. The snap part that attaches to the jig eye stays closed, The cheap ones can twist open, the swivel is not a ball bearing but it spins easily, the cheap ones use cheap swivels, and the finish on the blade is much better. That said, that's a huge difference in price, the cheap jig spinners still catch fish. To each their own, I've used both and prefer hildebrandt. And a size 3 would be about right for a 1/4 oz.

Leader to braid knots vs. backlashes
If it is catching on the tip top guide you could try changing to a larger size ring on that guide. I use back to back nail knots, a fly tackle knot. Gives a reliable compact knot. I make the leader long enough so the knot goes into the reel and have no problems.

Marabou wooly bugger jig
Very good looking jig, a fish catcher for sure. I remember way back Lindy/Little Joe sold a similar jig, instead of marabou the tail was saddle hackles, it was called the Canadian jig fly. Lots of walleye were caught on those around here,

Expride A Leader to Fluoro
While the fg knot is very small diameter it is rather long and stiff, my rods are mostly micro guides and the fg knot catches on the guides pretty bad especially the tip top. One rod I changed the tip guide to a larger diameter and that helped. Instead of the fg knot, I tie back to back nail knots, similar if not the same as back to back uni knot. Slightly larger diameter but much shorter and more compact. I leave it long enough to go on the reel and have no issues with the knot catching on the cast.

Old Hobby Resurrected
I work in a cabinet shop, we have a resaw ( a large heavy duty band saw) that takes 1 1/4 inch wide blades and the blades occasionally break, could be good material for a fillet knife. If you would like, I would send you some pieces. could also send a few walnut scraps.

Johnson
I grew up fishing with Johnson 710's and sabre's. they had an interesting drag system. If you held the handle or continued to crank it was direct drive no drag, as soon as you let go of the handle, line would slip out according to how you set the drag. Had it's advantages but if you panicked on a large fish it was gone. The Johnson Sabre had a larger diameter spool that oscillated. It casted pretty good but it was kind of large and heavy. The Garcia Abumatic also had an oscillating spool and a tighter drag while cranking. I much preferred these over the Mitchel 300's and 308's and I didn't have much else for options.
