Best baits ever
Hula Popper...I'll never...ever....ever go Bass fishing without one. Jitter bug. Great producer, fun to play with on the water. Rapala floaters. I don't use them a lot, but I think they are a great lure. Rapala countdown. I love using them. My vote for the greatest lure ever. I have caught a lot of different species of fish with them, from sunfish to pike. I don't know if the Senko is the greatest, but it is a top notch soft bait. Zara spook. Another great producer that is fun to play with on the water. The best bait ever is still the one mother nature makes. I have yet to see anything that can outproduce an actual live worm. Little worms all the way up to the biggest night crawlers.

Huge sale on Avids at BPS
Got to love those good local shops. I don't buy rods and reels from them, but I try to buy bait and tackle from them.

Huge sale on Avids at BPS
You'd be surprised how many people see the word "sale" and buy. A lot of sales gimicks out there. The thing you really have to watch out on are stores or manufacturers "special" packaging.

Huge sale on Avids at BPS
Come on now, a penny saved is a penny earned.... ;D ;D ;D ;D I noticed, and posted, they did that with the Loomis rods just before new years. I'm pretty sure it was the crankbait and spinnerbait rods. They upped the prices to the "new" Loomis MSRP, then put them on sale for the old MSRP.

Samurai line, is it REALLY all that???
They rate their line different for some reason. Their 30lb diameter is the same as Sufix 20lb. Their 18lb is about the same as Sufix 10lb. So in a sense, there could be the misperception that the line is weaker, but comparing actual diameter to actual diameter they work out to about the same strength. The first thing I noticed about the line was the ratings. They have 15, 18 and 20, then 30, 40, 55, 70 from there. They don't have 6 or 10 ratings.

Spinning reel for heavy tackle
Lot's of good candidates out there, obviously my vote goes to Pflueger Supreme 8035, but the Daiwa Fuego 3000 is fairly lightweight, but also carries a hefty price tag. Let's not forget the mother of all lightweight spinners......Steez. The drawback to the Steez is it's kind of on the smaller size for using 12+ test mono. I'm sure TEAM Shimano will chime in too, with the Stratic and Stratic mg among other models. I think the problem you will run into is small, and 20lb test line, don't go together very well. If you want to use 14-15 lb test mono, it gives you quite a few choices. I'm guessing braid is not an option on that old rod???

Great lure.........for some.
I have not been left fishless with any TYPE of lure, but I have a few lure that have not caught anything. By far the type of lure on the bottom of my list of productive lures is the spinnerbait. I have about a dozen of them, had most all of them a good 15-20 years, and I think the combined fish total is 3 (many years ago). One thing I give myself credit for is I try to never give up on a type of lure. The spinnerbait is about as close as I have come to giving up on one. They will see water time this year though. I feel I need to keep working at as many types of productive presentations as possible if I want to boat more fish. The spinnerbait is productive for some, so I just have to figure out where, and how, I am using them wrong.

Baitmonkey goes to Washington????
You never know, she might let him have his way... The first thing I thought of, when I saw the news report on the possible rebate, and how it would boost the economy, was JDM. ;D ;D ;D I would get my Pixy with it. So much for boosting the American economy. :-[

St. Croix deals still out there.
Good buy's. I know, not too long ago, the local SW still had a few to clear out. I know how that goes, looking for one thing and getting a deal on something else. I was all set on an MBR844 when I found the great deal on the 785. For $95 savings, I said close enough. That MH 610 might be "close enough" too.

How did you find out about this site, and when you registered... (and a little about myself)
Well, I was an active member of a general fishing forum, a Walleye fishing forum, and local (state) forum. I got kicked off the local forum becouse it seems that you were entitled to an opinion, as long as it was the same as the long time posters. Whether they were right or wrong. The Walleye forum posted a poll on whether the forum should be open to registered members only, becouse of all the unregistered posting garbage. The vast majority said to leave it open to all the unregistered people to post too. I had enough and left. I was down to a nice general forum, but not many active members. I wanted to raise my Bass fishing another level or two and did a Yahoo search. This site came up as an active one, so I joined. So far, pretty darn good. 8-)

Help Picking 1 line for it all
Well, my 2 cents would be a tough mono in the 10-15lb test range. Trilene XT, Sufix Siege, ect....

st croix question graphite ????
Well, the SC-II is the Premier/Triumph blank, and the SC-IV is the Legend tournament blanks, so the difference would be quite noticable. I suggest going to the Croix site and reading about the differences too. Here is a good page to start:http://www.stcroixrods.com/content.asp?id=29§ion=resources Oh, the SC-IV would be the much better blank.

Tungsten Or Lead??????
I have seen these threads come and go, and I have not weighed in on them, but I give it a go. I have not used lead anything in years, so I don't have much to say on it other than it's cheap, and can be found in most stores. When I want to make a "statement", I thread on a brass bullet. They are large, and very reflective compared to the colored ones, but in the deeper murkier water that I use them, I like them. I do have some "off brand" tungsten bullets I use in shallower water. I like them too. I don't really notice enough difference between the feel of the brass and the tungsten to really care. They both work fine for me.

Spinning reels and line twist
Line twist comes from casting, not reeling in, so the anti-line twist gizmos are just that...sort of. The twist happens becouse line is being peeled off the spool, unlike a baitcaster where it is unrolled. The only true way to nearly eliminate the problems caused by the twist or coiling, is a good swivel. The new rollers and guides they put on the bails do help some, but not that much. Another aid in helping to reduce problems with line twist is to use line with less memory, like braid or limp mono. Line with lower memory retains less of the coil as it is being peeled off the spool, this in turn, helps to reduce the problems associated with the coiling.

Samurai line, is it REALLY all that???
Thanks, maybe I will try it. The money is not that big of a deal, but I don't want to pay extra for hype. Even if the difference is small, it could be just enough to make it worthwhile. I have my Sol on my CR721 right now, I was thinking of spooling it with the line for light rigs, maybe try skipping under docks with it too. May or may not work good, but I would like to give it a shot. Basically looking for an optimal casting line.

Baitmonkey goes to Washington????
I heard rumor that Baitmonkey was spearheading the campain to get the $600 per person rebate. I heard he was figuring that was just the right amount of money for everyone to own a Loomis IMX MBR844 rod, spool of Sufix braid, Lucky craft Pointer, and Daiwa Zillion reel. Sure sounds about right to me....

Shipping $ for a rod and reel separately
I would think you could go to USPS, UPS, Fed Ex, DHL, etc...website and get an exact quote. I didn't see anything glancing over the UPS site, but i found what looks like a way to get a quote on the FedEx site: http://www.fedex.com/ratefinder/home?cc=US&language=en

Samurai line, is it REALLY all that???
I know RedlineRobert made a comment about it being good, but is it really THAT good??? At about $26 to fill a reel, are you paying for the name as much as the line??? On papar (screen) it looks like the best line ever made, but....I'm really tempted to try one 18lb spool on one of my baitcasters, but I really don't want to fork over the extra $9 difference just for a name.

Impeller Life Question?
There is no set interval for changing the impeller. The service life of an impeller is determined by many factors. Quality of the impeller, amount of use, conditions the motor sees, etc... Obviously a quality impeller will last longer. The amount of use factors into the life of the impeller. Say you buy a boat, and go on 2 week long fishing trips per year, and the rest of the time the boat sits. Odds are, the impeller will start to dry rot, and possibly fail in 2 or 3 years. A motor seeing action weekly or bi-weekly for the whole warm season (length depending on north or south), 5 years is a good time to change it. Heavier use will wear on the impeller, and service life will be greatly reduced. 2-3 years. Conditions the motor sees. Sand and salt will wear down the impeller, and service life will be greatly reduced. Annual replacement would not be a bad idea in salty or sandy conditions. Normal freshwater usage should allow for 3-5 years of service life. Adverse conditions will shorten the service life. It is better safe than sorry, but under normal conditions, annually is a little much IMO.

Choosing a Reel
Rebate doesn't apply to eBay sales. Not alway's true. The only stipulation is the sale must be from an authorized dealer or reseller. If the E-bay sale is through an E-bay store, or a store that is selling online through E-bay, that is a dealer, then everything is kosher. Yes, John Doe selling reels he got from who knows where, will not fly with Shimano.
