Do you always use a trailer when you fish a jig?

Yes.

Depends on the jig type. A plain head with a Yamamoto hula grub,,single or double tail works good. A shaky, wacky or dart head with a worm, no skirt works good. Hair jigs tied with rabbit fur or marabou, work good without added trailers. Cold water jigs, the trailers can be very short, giving the jig a smaller profile, it's has a trailer, just a smaller than used in warmer water.

yes. keep in mind.. many times it better to change ur retrieve (speed up, slow down, yo-yo, drag, hop, swim, dead stick) or location before changing the color of ur trailer.

for the jig I like the eye to be recessed in the lead head. you can pull/rip them thru grass or algae on the bottom w/o collecting anything. some people call it their "swimjig".

This pretty much sums it up for me. It just seems wrong to fish a traditional bass jig without a trailer, but it certainly isn't an absolute. I have a friend who fishes with me from time to time and will refuse to use a trailer with his jig just to prove a point...and to irritate me He does catch bass that way, though I think overall it is much less effective in most cases. Hair jigs - 50/50 split between a trailer or sans.

Always? No. Use a quality jig and count on the strands to do the work.

Hair jigs, no I never do, Bass jigs, it depends on the situation or technique I am using, if I am on the bottom, it's got a trailer, If I swim the jig and the bait fish are small then no trailer, I will trim the skirt for a smaller profile and swim it through grass in the shallows or under boat docks, any cover I can find, I have both tied on at all times and both see equal action, both are very effective.

Silicone or rubber skirt bass jigs - always.

Bucktail or feather jigs - never.

I dont get why its so mandatory for some people to always use a trailer. I do a lot dont get me wrong but certain times i dont like to use one. Like for instance right now in the fall im usually swimming the jig trying to imitate a baitfish so ill go without a trailer and let the skirt do the work.
