Today I caught my first 8" hudd fish... after over 100 hours fishing it over the years. I've caught fish on bigger baits but for some reason I could never get them on the traditional slow bottom crawl

Had my boss and his son over today . Primary goal was bream. The 2nd bream Alex hooked , as he had it almost to the dock , a bass clobbered the bream and he hooked the bass right in the corner of the

  • So I went fishing today, and caught a 9#. Scale bounced between 8-15 and 9-2, but let's call it a 9, shall we? NLMB trout eater.   Super slow rolling a 8" weedless on the bottom in about 15

I thought you had some kind of crazy double hook rig for a second. lol

Were you able to remove the other hook, or was it still stuck?

I got it out without much trouble.

Got out today about 1-5. High fast water and wind gusts to 20+ made for  a tough day but managed to put 6 in the boat; 2 on a Spinnerbait and 4 on a tx.Rig yum wooly bug with 1 of those the best of the day at 3-11.

Appreciate the kind words @LrgmouthShad but im really just a puddle jumpin' shallow water chunk and grind hack who happens to hit one on the head every now and then. Theres many more talented and accomplished fishermen on this site than me.

Spent a few days at my parents place in Elliot Lake, On. chasing smallmouth. The bass in this area are for the most part completely untouched, as most people around the area fish for trout or walleye. Didn’t get as many as usual with the major cold front that showed up on the first day. But we still got quite a few and some decent ones as well.

Went for a solo trip this morning for some largemouth. Started out slow with mostly light blowups and slashes at the frog, but after an hour the wind picked up a bit and the bite turned on. Got a dozen decent ones with a couple 4lbers and one right at 5. Even got two 3s on back to back casts at the same 10’ diameter patch of pads.

Hadn't been out in a while but had to make sure I squeezed in a trip before sending my daughter off to college. Lake is getting ridiculously low again, loses a foot or more every couple days, and is now down 161 feet from full pool. Definitely need a wet snowy winter out here.

Anyhow, trip was a lot of fun and it was great making some memories. Best bait for us was a 2.8 or 3.3 on a 3/16 head.

She was struggling to catch anything over 10" and then on her last cast, boom, biggest fish of the day.

Awesome seeing her get the only decent fish of the day and it being a walkoff.

Fished the Shiawassee and saginaw rivers. Not much in the bass front to day but, did land this nice 29 inch northern pike.  Caught on a bps black/blue flake curly tail worm.  Also caught about a dozen 13-14 inch bass

I think the pike are starting to put the feed bag on trying to get fat for the winter.  Historically this is the time of year I catch more numerous and bigger pike

She went way north up to Montana. I'm going to have to dust off my fly rods when I go back to visit. ?

The dam is something like 625 ft high, which seems pretty crazy when you think about it while you're fishing the riprap right along it. Thankfully the river channel is steep and deep, so there are still a lot of places that have over 300 ft of water.

Got out early this AM and was rewarded with a dink fest. Got 5 on the fluke but also got 3 on the bitsy bug. Even dinks love the jig!! Think I’m starting figure out this jig fishing. 69E6540B-ACC0-456E-B6B4-207AE5294778.thumb.jpeg.6a49489439cf4f98ecf44cdcedd473f3.jpegStill sure I’m missing bites, but gaining confidence.

Dinkfest. That’s the place I’ve been for the last couple of weeks. Nothing picture worthy. 7 yesterday and the longest MAY have reached 12” if I stretched him.

Oh, I think you're more than a lucky hack!  Consistently boating nice fish gave it away. Unless, you're fishing in the BPS tank ?***********************"***

Couple days of pond excursions, the fish are long and lean now, but bitting well. It's been cooler with less humidity the last few days, I probably start taking the boat out more.

Went out yesterday, only managed to catch small ones. Here's the biggest one of the day.

At around 10AM I had to go back to the car, the gentleman who works on the nearby property had backed into my rear door with his truck. He was super apologetic about it, I see him every time I'm at the creek, and it was an honest mistake. Here's the end result...

rsz_7202a3e7-67fc-4a39-a8e4-18c44097aaad.jpg.87d4a54b30da6f514c93c322426e17c4.jpg

Made two or three more casts after getting all of his insurance info, but the day was kinda ruined after this.

Went back today. Things were... A lot different. Got a couple little ones on the popper to start out the day.

But because I was dead set finally learning to fish a jig properly before fall and winter get here, switched to a Bass Patrol football jig with a Rage Chunk and managed to get this little guy.

rsz_11img_2919.thumb.jpg.eaf0dac7ff15f94e0469a99f112bb6b0.jpg

That jig eventually got hung up and I broke off. Switched to a Dobyns jig (the one with the EWG style hook) with a Flappin' Hog on the back of it and got bit on the first or second drag after it hit bottom.

rsz_1screenshot_2021-09-05_at_193505.thumb.jpg.f83c1ec0e0d8cc4975d172db30966d79.jpg

I gotta say... After avoiding these things like the plague for years, I'm REALLY loving jig fishing right now. Getting the right gear for it really helps (even if just by having to mentally justify spending more money on a dedicated jig setup), but just sticking with it until you figure out by yourself what exactly you need to do was the way to go.

After that I caught another 1-1/2lb fish on the drop shot and called it a day before 10:00 AM, got home in time for lunch.

Managed 8 this morning on senkos and speed worms. Lost that many that kept biting the worms in half , and fish that didnt stay hooked…. Had a nice blow up with a frog first cast but he missed.

It has been a rough summer here for bass fishing. I did learn a couple things today that I plan to implement from now on. It was a relaxing few hours I needed on the water because…

my best friend Arthur is fighting for his life with covid in the ICU. I am very blessed no one in my family has gotten it, but it’s been all around us this time. Our lake association treasurer is in the ICU with it too.

Thanks, I really appreciate it. @TnRiver46 -Arthur is the best friend Ive ever had- very rare in this life…

What I learned was really something I knew but kept experimenting. As you know, I primarily fish plastics. I keep trying to find a spinning rod in my price range ( which ain’t much ) that will fit my 2 best reels. The one I got the other day seemed awesome but I could NOT hook any of the fish that bit on it today. It is a 7’0 medium Diawa something with a  fast tip. Felt great with the one fish I caught the other day and at the store but today I learned that its tip is just too light for plastics.

Conversely, I didnt miss a fish with my 7’0 MH  mod. fast tip lightning rod. Im going to trade in the diawa and get another same lightning rod and I’ll be set for fall. You’d think Id know this after all these years.

I also learned my jon boat is leaking again ? Such is life -  could be a lot worse.Nothing a little JB weld wont fix…

And I just reminded myself to slow my fishing down, which always pays off for me. Felt real confident and comfortable on the water today even though it was a somewhat below average catch… Was needing a little more of that with the way fishing has been this year.

Wrapping up fishing from this weekend. Got most of my fish on a spinnerbait. One fish I was very pleased with, that is the last one pictured. Longest fish I've caught around here, did not weigh, my guess is 3.5. Had a few 2's and of course many smaller ones.
