Today I caught my first 8" hudd fish... after over 100 hours fishing it over the years. I've caught fish on bigger baits but for some reason I could never get them on the traditional slow bottom crawl

  • So I went fishing today, and caught a 9#. Scale bounced between 8-15 and 9-2, but let's call it a 9, shall we? NLMB trout eater.   Super slow rolling a 8" weedless on the bottom in about 15

Well I've got another tournament recap to type up but I'm too tired to do it right now. So for now, enjoy this super aggressive bite from prefishing, back when I thought it was going to be a fun tournament. The Okuma X Series rod and reel and Seaguar Smackdown were putting in work on the practice day.

People say a bad day on the water is better than a good day at the office, but I had a bad morning at the pond, and looks like it's shaping up to be a pretty rough day here at work, too. 😂

Only caught one little teeny-tiny bass this morning.

On the bright side, though, I have noticed that when I get up early and go fishing, I feel far more prepared and eager to face the work day.

To quote Richard Gene The Fishing Machine: "Go fishing when you can, cuz it's good for ya!"

You caught a fish. Doesn't sound too bad to me!

I can tell you're a proud dad! Love your posts! I've got four of my own, and my youngest has goats, horses, and she packs! She has a bumper sticker on her F-150 that reads....(I own a Glock. I'm just not a pepper spray kind of girl!)   😁  She also has a tee-shirt that reads....(Stomp my Flag and I'll Stomp your A.....).

Went out last night.

Caught at least 10. All bass except 1 bluegill and 1 crappie.

Of course there's always "The one that got away" story. I was showing my wife how to fish a neko rig and wasn't fully paying attention. It was definitely a really nice one. Ugh.

The majority came on my two favorite ways to fish currently. Jerkbait and a swimjig. The swimjig might be my favorite right now. Seems to be working good in the dark as well.

It's just fun to throw because they always smack it good. Seems to be a pretty high hook up/land percentage.

These two were back to back casts. Looking at the pictures the tail was even missing. LOL

I'm wondering about throwing a black/blue version for the night.

Took the nephew out to AEP today.  Beautiful day for paddling, but with clear skies, even clearer water and no wind I figured out best bet would be long casts and small baits.

We proceeded to slay dinks for the next two hours.  Most of the fish were caught working a Ned along the first depth change.

I did manage a 3lb fish my first of that size with the Ned.  I’d like to get a 4lb class fish on one before the years though.

@bp_fowler: I love those AEP ponds. You could be skunked on something that pretty and still have a great day.

Took another homemade lure to the river with the kid this afternoon. Caught a nice little smallie before the tubers ruined the fishing.

Ended the day with that cow on the big ribbon tail.

Last night after work I got one bite but it was on a spro frog and she was a big girl.

Jake's out of school and we are fixing to do our first summer break father son bass adventure today.

Hopefully we find a fish or two!

Had a morning off to fish my favorite bass nursery. All swimbait eaters this time out, wouldn't touch a senko or dropshot.

Always finding low tide treasures. Anyone need a new reel?

@Pat Brown: I like my blue lizards too. And I love a heavy bag. I've said many times that anyone can luck into a single big bass, but to land five big bass, you have to have their number.

I returned to Maine yesterday evening after driving 2,500 miles this past week. I wanted to rise early and fish this morning before the wind rose. I set my alarm clock for four in the morning, but I just couldn't answer the call. Perhaps I can fish a couple hours this evening if the wind dies enough. So many fine bass have been caught and posted this past week and I didn't catch a single one of them. This is @Glenn scolding me:

@Swamp Girl I don't think anyone considers you a slacker, but I expect that @Bluebasser86 probably caught 100 fish this week so you're falling behind in the utlimate bass catcher of the universe race.

But I posted video evidence of Glenn calling me a slacker! It was taken before @Glenn grew his trustworthy mustache and somehow Michael J. Fox photobombed us.

I’m slacking, so far this week I’ve only caught 37 bass 😔

Got a couple yesterday.

I just happened to have a fluke on and it was about at the end of it's life so I fished it for one more.

I got one after dark on a jitterbug, but didn't get a picture.

Went down to the river today and got a really pretty dark goggle eye.

I got a nice 3 pounder

@Swamp Girl because you’re the best Bass Resource cheerleader in my humble opinion 😉 Here’s me and Swamp Girl back in our heyday 😆😂Will Ferrell Snl GIF by Saturday Night Live

@Eric 26: Yep, that's Eric and me. We formed our own squad after the "real" cheerleaders cut us in the first round.

"And stay out!" they yelled at us as we left.

So we did just that, cheering under the bleachers and by the parking lot.

Such.

Good.

Memories.

We missed probably 250 bites yesterday.  Not sure if they were very enthusiastic sunfish or small bass or big bass that love to bite and spit big worms, but we got nailed and spit almost everywhere that looked good, I'm still amazed we got these 4.

Jake did lose one that was probably around 4-5 on the way to the boat when it swam towards him faster than he could reel.

It was hot and slick calm and the bass were not nearly as easy to pattern as they were while the wind was blowing steady.

First time out on Local Lake Menderchuck this year, which is sort of insulting.

However I was rewarded with a brief early morning topwater bite.

All trophies in training, but they had the right attitude.

Pop Max & a Sexy Dawg was all I needed.

Felt especially nice to be in the Pro-V Bass again.
