Today I caught my first 8" hudd fish... after over 100 hours fishing it over the years. I've caught fish on bigger baits but for some reason I could never get them on the traditional slow bottom crawl

Adirondack camping trip last week, buddy and I were able to fish 4 out of 5 days with only one rain day (also a day of rest:P). Different lake or launch spot each day, in our kayaks.

We tried to avoid the bedding fish, which were on the beds in some area's and off them in others.

We had some epic days where between us we got over 100 fish, mostly smallies with a couple of largemouths, perch and rock bass mixed in, we got no pike on this trip.

What worked were small baits ( 2"to 3") on ultra-light tackle.

So humble. No pizazz, no fanfare. Just "caught a big fish." Like Barry Sanders handing the ball to the ref after every TD.

But I'm with @A-Jay, we need the story! Congrats on an excellent fish, man!

Don't know what to say it was a black trick worm Texas rig

I’m slacking, so far this week I’ve only caught 37 bass 😔

As my boss would say, you'll need to work this weekend.

Truck has been in the shop for a few days, so that means no boat for me. Instead I’ve been fishing scum-filled park ponds and flooded, blown-out, muddy rivers. A far cry from fishing clear mountain lakes from my boat, but anything to scratch that itch.

Today I got to spend the day at my parents’ camp, and they have a small pond there so I got to fish that. It’s rare that this pond gives up a bass. Mostly pickerel, but I had to try. I was throwing a popper that the pickerel wouldn’t leave alone so I switched to a T-rigged roboworm. The pickerel loved that too. I had just released the 4th pickerel on 4 casts and was kneeling at the ponds edge rinsing the slime off my hands when I looked up and saw a nice bass cruising slowly about 3’ from my face. I slowly reached for my rod and flung the roboworm a couple feet past the fish and after 1 second my line came alive. The result was the best fish I’ve pulled from this pond: IMG_2171-compressed.jpeg.f5cfe0b321405902c4b0d359f8e89ae1.jpeg

The simplicity of shore fishing is nice, but I’m ready to get back out on the boat.

I'm back in the saddle again. I fished my pond for 3.5 hours this evening and will fish my pal's pond tomorrow morning and Sunday morning, energy permitting. I like to avoid fishing weekends, as I saw three other boats on my pond this evening and a shore angler too, but I still managed to catch 30 bass. I had five of my six rods rigged with soft plastics, but they were hitting those weakly. My sixth rod was rigged with a loon-colored Whopper Plopper and that's what they wanted. Here's one of the small ones that I was catching at first:

Nice short trip out with Jake.

He was a star.  Long 6 lber and 3 nice ones (one frog fish caught by Ole Dad™)

He lost a 5+ right at the net and a couple in the 2-3 range.

All on the floating worm!

Thanks to @Joedodge for gifting me this jig. I caught a handful on it then lost it in a tree branch. I think I can recover it though. It's the perfect size for these smaller bass that inhabit this pond.

Great catches! And you are welcome! It’s a booyah boo jig if you can’t get it back. A bitsy bug or missle baits mini swim John’s a similar style jig that will do the same.

Happy Father’s Day!

got up at 4:30 and made it on the water about 5:20. It’s drizzling and overcast here. Brought a 3/16 pegged 10 inch ribbon tail in red bug. And a Berkley choppo 75. I just got the 75 Friday after work. Same profile as the 105. But shorter and smaller hooks.

the choppo was the ticket fished till 8 o clock and lost count. Couldn’t get a bite on anything but the choppo. ( only bites on top water….what a problem to have haha) no huge fish. But I never catch big fish lol. But had a great morning walking the bank. Some of them were really pretty or dark colored since our grass, moss, and scum has really grown in thick. And they were aggressive this morning some o swore would be a lot bigger the way they hit and fought.

Like @Joedodge, I was dazzled by the strength of the bass I caught this morning. However, I didn't have the counter-strength and lost at least two bass for every bass I landed. I did manage to boat 27, bringing my total for 2025 to 582. I'm taking fewer photos nowadays because so many of my bass look the same, but I did take a few photos of representative fish. I also caught three pickerel. This is the pond where I caught what I believe was the Maine state record pickerel last year. I didn't catch any that size, but the ones I did catch fought as hard as a big bass. Here's one:

P6150011.JPG.a63f3ed3e8d396f13ba52c9dc8ded289.JPG

And here are some of the bass I caught:

P6150013.JPG.e9a7d89a1128f93f7560c787097be84e.JPGP6150010.JPG.0f00e13820862eb45b66602b818065eb.JPGP6150009.JPG.885d835dd5fb076f0302eddb2ab25a51.JPGP6150008.JPG.d5c707343f4d63da3a26116318208102.JPGP6150012.JPG.3a7afaf31d7e7fde175d8183304dcdbf.JPG

I had something confusing happen. I was fishing a shallow, weedy bay. I cast a T-rigged Rage Bug and snagged. I pulled hard, hoping it was just a weed. It felt like a rock. However, when I was setting my rod down to pick up a paddle, the rock took off and broke free. Many of you have stories of a snag moving, but I didn't until this morning.

I wonder how many bass @Bluebasser86 has caught this year. He's shooting for 2025 bass, but if he makes it, I don't think I will as I have two, separate cataract surgeries scheduled for August and my doc doesn't want me to paddle. Plus, I just lost eight days of prime fishing for a funeral.

Lastly, I caught a 17" smallie, as well as other shorter brown bass.

Just a couple of the ones I caught on a dreary Father’s Day. The LMB must have been drunk. I haven been catching more of them in the past couple years on the river.IMG_2025-06-15-114621.jpeg.ba335896856586098d550943130abceb.jpegIMG_2025-06-15-114600.jpeg.5edd05ce098155ee0125777cd75677e3.jpeg

Got out for another night fishing session. Bite was slower than last weekend but still managed a limit. They wouldn't touch a bait after dark if it wasn't a spinnerbait. I also picked up a couple fish on a dropshot before dark.

Your health and vision is more important than fishing.  I know its a tough pill to swallow, but you need your eyes more than you need to fish for a while.

I noticed no gloves on this outing too.  Working on your hand tan?

Ha! I simply forgot it and hated fishing without it.

You're so right about my eyes.

@LrgmouthShad: Bass numbers two and five are beauties!

Well I went back Out to run errands. And there is a pond I always drive by and my stuff was in the truck. So I stopped and fished.  The edge was really scummy and ya could only fish it on one side because of thick woods. But it’s on our DNR public list. Threw a choppo 105 because it’s what was tied on lol. Sun came out for the day. So I’m surprised I got any. But this guy was my only bite. I think I’ll have to try this spot again early in the morning. For a first catch around here on a new pond. This is a good fish.

Hahaha now that’s funny. They certainly

seem To work better than a buzz bait (which I love) and a frog around here. Crazy seeing how as I tried them off and on for years in Florida lol.

A tiny one and a fat little fish, pretty sure it’s the same one from the other day. Same bait for both fish, currently at storage unit deciding what to go back with lol. IMG_0857.jpeg.ecb7642a3d6728c96903cff6e6e5d675.jpeg
